I’m genuinely so excited for the Kneeboard in general to show a true weight and balance rather than just the weight displayed in the Rearm/Refuel menu so we can see what is costing us weight and by how much.

Note on the APKWS ranges you were getting: Testing in-game I noticed that the guidance is quite aggressive, and will often put the rocket flying on a low altitude path, almost like a beam rider, slowing down quite a bit.
You can eke out quite a lot of distance by not just lofting your launch, but also starting to lase a few seconds after firing, once the rocket has reached it's natural apex. Lasing all the way from launch to impact I was barely getting 3.3 km on my test area, which has me a bit higher than the target, lasing a few seconds after launch I could easily hit stuff 6 km away without additional lofting.

Wasn't the APKWS supposed to be cheap hellfire vs just better rockets. $20k per APKWS, vs 120k per Hellfire and a Hellfire is kinda overkill vs technicals or even most armored vehicles that aren't a MTB.

I believe I have read the price would be around USD 15K (not sure if it is just for the kit, or whole rocket). So I guess when collateral damage is a factor, APKWS would be handy (and cheaper than Hellfire). Thanks for awesome videos. To see how much you are enjoying the KW, makes me looking forward to it even more.

15k-20k is the price of the guidence kit, with the hydra FFAR at 2,5k-3k (price ranges per contract). This may seem expensive but this means the entire weapon cost about as much as a JDAM or LGB guidence kit (which both are about 25k). Now all of the weapons are quite cheap... yes cheap, the public numbers for the Javelin is about 78k per missile, and the hellfire is at 100k to 150k depending on source. and the Maverick model G is supposedly sitting at 269k per missile (D & H models are about 100k per missile). And why do I know all this... I did some research to try and budget a DCS campaign I played with some mates, I still have the 'reciept from that research', I must be on some list after that... Did you know Lockheed Martin has a public ethics program which are willing to discus weapon pricing if you call?

This is basically a mini Apache, I dont think I expected these to be this potent, look out Hind, this might be the new ground attack king bar a A10C or F15E or what ever! xD
7 km's or more is kinda wild! Not to mention, you carry 14 of them and not 4 or 8... not quite the same bang but still very cool!

Do Army pilots use the same terminology as Navy and Airforce? Bogey, Rifle, Shack, Bingo, Spike, Nails, etc.? Or do they have their own protocols? I have never heard you say shack when shooting and hitting a target. You say "target destroyed". Is that "muscle memory" from your flying days or just something you picked up while in DCS? Not important, the thought just occurred to me.

  • @FuzzyKedama

It's annoying how every system and weapon system and whatnot nowadays is just given an alphabet soup acronym for a name. I miss actual names. Maverick, Stinger, Sidewinder, and even Hellfire (though what's interesting is on one of my old books, Hellfire technically is a backronym, but then again so is TOW).

It's amazing how your muscle memory and brain memory gets tuned to the current module your flying. Since this was released, I have not flown a single other chopper. Just for kicks I loaded up the Apache and Holy Schnikies (Tommy Boy voice) I was like a pig on roller skates. I could not do shit smoothly and all my binds were forgotten. I must have went to the controls page a dozen times to get things done. And the Apache has such a different flight model. Not nearly as quick and nimble as the Kiowa. Felt like I was flying a cargo plane after flying an F-16. That's why you should try to use the same bindings across all platforms (as much as possible). Keeps things simple.
