I Loved Jimmy Smith on Hammond B Organ..Never got to see him, [or most recently] Joey Defrancesco, who died recently..As an African American Female < H.S. Band Geek> Born in the 1960s..I met, chatted with & Hugged The Incomparable Dizzy Gillespie, in between is breaks at 1am set after working 12 Hour days in Corporate Accounting, One Night, I said #@%& this, I need to hear LIVE Jazz [ For 35 Years, I have Driven 6 Hours to Saratoga, NY, during the Last Weekend in June , for Friehoffer Jazz Festival..{Please Excuse the Tangents, Lol} ] Kissed Dizzy💋 on His famous cheeks, which were dripping sweat, he kissed my cheek as well, Lol (Joking, because his Sweat got on my face, blouse and suit, "I'll Never wash my face Again) while at Sweetwaters, months later Dizzy died..I cried as if I lost Family Member, a BELOVED Grandfather Figure.. Dizzy's death, STILL brings tears to my eyes.. I Noticed how soaked in sweat, he was after Playing a Brilliant Set..{Perhaps Mr. Gillespie might have undiagnosed heart issues, or high blood pressure, I thought to myse ..I wish I had inquired...These are Very Prevalent Maladies in Our African American Community. Years Earlier, at Baruch College, I met Count Basie at a Concert Series at my Alma Mater..[ Hanging on my wall, is Photographer, Art Kane's 1958 Historical B&W Portrait of 57 Jazz Artists, Assembled on and around a Browstone ( Similar to my Dearest Grandmommy's ✝️ RIP.. Browstone in Brooklyn), "A Great Day In Harlem"..I'LL ALWAYS LOVE THAT PIC... I also saw LIVE performances by Herbie Hancock, Anita Baker, James Brown, etc. [ I'LL Spare readers on this thread more of my blathering, 😲 ] Whilst Listening to WBGO 88.3 broadcasting out of Newark NJ, on Sunday, March 5, 2023..OMG, WBGO 88.3 FM, YOU ARE TRULY AN INTERNATIONAL TREASURE..THANK YOU WBGO 88.3 FM NEWARK, NJ For Introducing me to This Lovely Virtuoso Queen, of The Hammond B3 Organ. SO GRATEFUL Listening to Ms. Scott's Interviews..Rhoda Scott's Live Performances w/ Her talented Female Trio, Quartet, collaborations, etc. I've been to Lincoln Center, Dizzy's Club Coca-Cola, Blue Note, (Tourist Trap, IMO)etc, [ Chaka Khan, UNNECESSARILY, rude to me @Blue Note.. I paid exorbitant Cover $$ to see Chaka at Blue Note..Her 🎵 helped to raise me in Bedstuy [ My Sisters and I were "Latch-Key Kids", We had to come 'Straight Home from School', Eldest Sister was the Informant ( Tattle Tale, Snitch, Lol), She Gave Mama a FULL REPORT When Ma Called at 5pm to check on us before leaving work( Our Mama worked in Manhattan, we were NOT ALLOWED to Go Outside to Play After School, TURNING on Stove etc; We Made Sandwiches 🥪, Did Our Homework [ Dinner was cooked by Mama when she came Home from work ] and Played our 45 Records on our little Record Player.. We had scratched-up 45's of Aretha Franklin, Al Green, The Moments, James Brown, Isely Bros., Chaka Khan and Rufus, Jackson 5, Percy Sledge, Nancy Wilson♥️ etc..TOO MANY WONDERFUL ARTISTS TO LIST < We bought those records in the [ NOW Extinct ] 'Neighborhood Record Shop'...We did the Soul Train 'Line' Us Sisters, had our 'Dance Parties, Lol> As I was descending tight winding staircase going to Ladies Room, Chaka was Ascending, SUDDENLY OUT OF NOWHERE, Chaka Yelled at me, "Excuse the Hell out of Me ! " as she pushed ROUGHLY pass.. I saw her coming upstairs, & already moved against the bannister, to make way for her to pass by me..Afterwards her East Coast Band Saxaphonist [An Ex Beau..], introduced me to Chaka in her dressing room ..the Old Adage " Never Meet Your Heroes" suddenly popped in my head, due to her rude behavior..Thankfully, I also saw Stephan Grapelli, Virtuoso Jazz Violinist, at Blue Note before he passed. He was nearly 90 years old, such a Sweetheart, I hugged him, kissed him on the cheek during Meet/Greet Joking, "I have the female version of your Name", had most of his CDs, bought more anyway so Stephan could sign the cd case for me. God Bless ALL ARTISTS, Writers, Painters, Sculptors, Musicians🥰 ( EVERY MUSIC GENRE) ..THEY ARE OUR EARTH 😇s. I will search for The Tour Dates of Beautiful Queen Female Virtuoso of the Hammond B Organ, the Inimitable Rhoda Scott, who is 80 yrs. Young. P.S.
