- Vladimir Putin was sworn in for a record fifth term as Russian President on May 7 at a Kremlin ceremony. Putin said he considered leading Russia a "sacred duty" as he was inaugurated for a new six-year term, prolonging his more than two-decade rule. Putin, in office as president or prime minister since 1999, started his new term over two years after deploying tens of thousands of troops into Ukraine. Meanwhile, The US had ramped up its search for an alternative to Zelensky, according to the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service. Watch the video to find out more.

Ms Navalna had her own agenda for a long time with a 'friend' of late husband. AN had become a liability as his actual support base ebbed away because people were bored by stunts. That is harsh but true.
Putin was unusually emotional at the swearing in by just a flicker but we learned a lot. For 2 decades he has carried on what the Uralian Yeltsin said would need to happen and that was the internal development of Russia through its regions and with trading partners who would emerge as genuine partners. Yeltsin, before his second major stroke, had faith in Putin's energy and commitment but had to persuade him to think more regionally and lose some of his KGB Cold War thinking which was in the past.
Indeed, Yeltsin had predicted that Gorbachev's concentration on the old stage of European Russia arm wrestling with US systems and rules which showed too little respect for the traditions and ethnic/linguistic ways diversity of Russia which had pre-dated the 17th/18th century Peter and Catherine presentation of only Russia's western face. Putin's research teams in what would stabilize into the CIS were tasked with making best use of regional talent and this resulted in changes to education systems not concentrating on a single Russian image.
Putin's speech included substantial messages about unity of regions and peoples being by consent -- in the full knowledge of what had been achieved and would build upon. He was hinting also at his age and why younger people were being promoted but played down details.
We in the west who might not have been as attentive as we should have been were quietly invited to trade.
Those of us who have taken notice of details and developments could have expected such a speech maybe after Ukraine is resolved but Putin chose now. Some of the wording was very like that of Lavrov.
