Can we just take a moment to appreciate Jeff’s consistency and pocket? I mean, damn!

Came for the cymbals, stayed for the snare 😍
This video perfectly proves that it really doesn't matter what cymbals you play. All sounds good in good hands.
Yes but... acustic is other world. If is whit mic is right.
@@enriqueviruet412 With all you can make good music.
There’s a lot of post production in this recording. It would be more objective without effects and backing track, but it does serve as a good explanation to the purpose of each lineup.
From personal experience the kit sounds widely different to the person playing than it does to the people listening to the performance. One almost needs to listen to someone else playing to get a true idea of how a drum or cymbal sounds.
Very true, but sometimes it's all about having the right tool for the job, aka the right type of cymbals for the right type of music or environment.
@@gogo2957 Ya, for sure. I mean you could even make awesome music with buckets
Man those K sweets are insane. IMO the best line of cymbals ever! The ride is AMAZING, the crashes are INSANE, and the hats are UNBELIEVABLE! 10/10 nothing beats them
Lol those are the ones im going for
@@Casquillo8520 yessir good choice
I’m getting my set next week as well
21" K Sweet ride is the best sounding Zildjian I've ever owned. In love with these cymbals.
I went to guitar center and tested every cymbal. The K sweets sounded so much better than everything.
One of the reasons I buy and play Zildjian cymbals is you can hear the Zildjian sound in every line. From the i family right through to the top end K and A series. I still use my ZBT 18" crash mixed with my A's they blend so well and keep their own unique sounds. I have at least one cymbal from the A Family, A Custom Family and K Family. I love them all. Plus of course Zildjian cymbals sound amazing too and that's another reason I play Zildjian cymbals hopefully for years and years to come.
I regret so much that I let go of my 20 'ZBTplus ride cymbals
I still have my whole zbt pack with crashes, hats, splash and rides.. still use the splash and crashes to this day👌
I have a 14" ZBT Crash in with my Custom As and it fits fine.
3 points to the drummer who’s totally savoring the moment.
I came to this video to try and figure out which cymbals I want but now I'm even more conflicted!
idk if you got the cymbals but i’d recommend if you the money to get A customs or some Ks or maybe even switch them up like i do
@@Criticalr6 Yeah right now I have the i series but I really want to save up for some A customs and K customs, but now I don't know what cymbal from each type I want.
I want k's but I think the box set costs more the the A's. I'm probably going to get the ziljan a391 set.
@@dylanbaldwin7934 yeah that's the set I was thinking of getting
The way you decide is based on the speed of the music you play (sustain/decay length) and if you prefer more frequencies (and what frequencies) or more clarity. For example: Say I played fast hardcore punk music, so I would want the cymbals to die off immediately (quick decay) (think of mixing headroom and space). But I also want slightly distorted sounding but still soft, so a lot of frequencies and way less clarity. I also want my drums to be the focus and the cymbals to be the distorted accent. Drums loud, cymbals barley in the mix. (think 80's def leopard recordings/mixes) So my choice would be the K Custom Special Dry set. Just remember how you want your playing to sound in a recording and the closer you get to that acoustically the less you have to do in the studio with EQ, and dealing with overhead mics. Most the time cymbals are way too loud that you have to start gating all your drums and set the overhead mics to like 1 or 2 and EQ all the cymbal mics to death. Best to start off with the cymbal / drum combo you like the best and only use mics to capture your sound, not fix it. And this is personal preference too, some drummers love cymbals and the drums are secondary. Some even make the drums sound very dead, and have cymbals that ring on forever forever forever forever forever forever.
I wish I could play like this guy! Awesome, man! At least half of those beautiful cymbals sound brilliance is a man who hitting them. Nice job, I think this guy always got the gig.
I invested in the A Custom pack. It’s worth the money. Cuts right through the mix.
I absolutely love the A Custom cymbals.
Not sure what it is, but I love this video.
Signed, a Sabian guy.
Sabian guy also and yes this video is great!
I use Sabian AAX stage hats and a 16" stage crash with my Zildjian 20" I ride and 16" I china, both are very good cymbal companies! Proof that when you want the best, go Turkic
This is so well done. Every cymbal pack gets its time. The song has a little bit of everything so that's a perfect guide to find your favorite sound. Or mix and match if that's your thing.
Jeff Randall everybody!
What song is this ? Didn't see in the description.
No way

When you play cymbals the right way and a nice placement of the microphones, they sound amazing!
Came for the cymbals, completely forgot that there were different cymbal sets, just watched the dude playin' some good music and enjoyed my time.
Haha same here dude
I love the A pack, I’ve owned it for almost 3 years. Added a 19” to my setup to replace the 16 but it worked out great in the end. Can’t wait to pick up some A customs to go along a 23” K sweet :)
Nobody does affordable cymbals like Paiste, until the S series came along and in their own way are pretty nice. A job well done Zildjan from a Paiste guy who plays them constantly at a rental rehearsal space.
My friend Sabian XSR are b20 … great cymbals and cheap
Wuhan are best
I got a pair of k custom special dry hi hats a while ago and they are amazing
Great demonstration, texts labelling the model in demonstration helps a lot. Very helpful.
Happy New Year and the Zildjian Company celebrates 400th Anniversary! #1
Wow John Mayer's a drummer now, too!
This sounds so good. Very inspiring.
bro this is the best video ever, thanks!
A Custom and K are always my go-to cymbals.
Jeff is the man. All precision. All class.
Superb comparison video.
If you've ever played any of these cymbals in real life, you will notice that the video transitions to specific cymbal sets based on their strengths -Notice most of A's emphasis is on hi hats while K sweet is on their fancy, crashy, delicious, crashy-ride. I's and S's kind of during general parts of the song or whatever and K dry because they have to...
So much energy in that recording!
fantastic vid and player, well done guys
They all sound good. As drummers we sit here and examine everything down to the last detail, but in context of when everyone else in the world will hear what we do, most sound pretty good. And yes this cat is LAYING IT DOWN. Very smart and necessary to hear them all in the same environment, same song etc. So well done !!! Please do Sabians !!!
My fav pairs are the A’s got them myself sounds good as always like when it was out the box
Those special dry really are something else. Not for everyone but my favorite Zildjians ever
I could watch Jeff Randall play alllll dayyyyyy!
substantial groove🙌🏻
The K Custom Special Dry sounds great in a rock song.
Hey look it's Jeff! Awesome! I LOVE my 14" K hats and I'm thinking of getting the whole set. I also would love a set of As as well to have 2 great options for recording!
I bought a set of (mint) 14" K hats a couple years ago for a great price, but sold em bc I wasn't getting the same feel and rebound as my A NB's, and I struggled a bit with em.
Now I've got sellers remorse and I'm pissed I wasn't more patient. Those were the ones that got away. Bummed
😑🤕
My entire main cymbal line ups are A customs. They're my favorite GO-2's. From sizes to tones and effects, from surface shine to dancing glimmer from stage lights !
Nice comparison. The Sweets are my favourites.
I am a newly serious but intermediate skilled drummer and primarily listen to heavier focused rock. I've been playing the S Family: 10" Splash, 14" MasterSound Hat's, 16" Trash, 16" MT Crash, 17" Thin Crash, 17" Special (Canada), 18" MT Crash, 20"M Ride with 8" ZHT Spash and 14" Fx Stackeron the side too. I personally love the way the S Family cymbals sound especially the more rare 17's.
Just love my Z Custom crashs...
I swear by my Zildjian I cymbals. Love them
I will always love my Zcustoms 🤘
I have the i pro gig series cymbals and they sound really good. Especially the 18" crash/ride. The 16" has a little bit of an undertone the 20" is very bright. The high hats are pretty good but I am also new to drumming.
More Jeff pleaseee!
A and K Custom Special Dry are everything I would dream about
For some reason, it seems drummers, the dual wielders of music, really enjoy playing along to this song. It really was in the cards for it to become the anthem of the Knights of Tortisio.
S and K sweet are perfect!
That K SWEET crash is SICK!!!!
looking hard at the K sweet pack, I like the sound of the S line too, might have to check those out too.
I have an S. I want to drop them to the garbage..
''A'' Custom !! wow need that Ride !!
From my experience, using and hearing these cymbals are just amazing. They will have different sounds and tone but that's only because of the material. I have a mix of Zildjian cymbals on my kit and they sound great. I got an A 19 Ultra Hammered china last year and using it along with my 18 ZBT china really mixes well together. Currently I have some ZBTs, I series, S Family, A Series, A customs, Amir II, and Z custom and honestly they all sound great together. I would be careful when choosing the sound but it's ok to mix and match the models.
(Edit) I'm actually going to be getting some more Z customs from a friend of mines so it should be fun to add more to my kit.
I also didn't expect to have my comment highlighted, but sometimes you'll never know, maybe I could one day have a sponsorship with Zildjian.
(Edit Edit) Also adding, be careful when choosing the models you want, sometimes they'll end up cracking super easily, so when you get something like a ZBT or an I series, just know they won't last as long as some A customs because of the durability, but they are all really good cymbals, I love Zildjian, and the cymbals are amazing, so anything they make is absolutely amazing. To anyone that has made it here, thank you for reading my comment, I would appreciate if you subscribed to my channel as well, and I hope you have a good day or night.
I really need new cymbals😂🇿🇦
Cool pop tune. My Faves are those A's
Really loving the video. What band is he playing along to and whats the name of the song ?
Seeing cymbal comparison videos like theses really prove to me that the biggest variable in the actual sound of the full kit is the drummer.
Dang. Just when I start getting a little bored of my classic A’s I came here to compare others and fell in love with my cymbals all over again.
Wow this guy can play!
i want these but i cant afford them. but if i could i would go for a mix of the a's,s's,and probably a k custom ride
K-Custom top hi-hat with an A-series bottom hat. Try it. It's fantastic! Best hats I ever had.
Just got the zildjian I series set today 🙂 good job zildjian
How are they doing, do they sound good? I’m thinking of Getting the same.
@@AfroSean I think they sound pretty good for the cost honestly you can always try them out if you don't like them you can return them but I like my set I got the 14 hats 16 crash and 20 ride
Love this video. The main question is which set do you like best for this song and tempo?
Oddly enough, for this song I like the i B8 set the best. It just fits the mix and the melodic guitars. But I would reduce their volume(loudness) in the mix of the crashes.
Can we get one without a backing track?
Yeah. I love this video, but the same thing without the backing track would be more clarifying.
Yeah, way too loud
The point of the video was to hear them blend in with a band and hear the differences in the music.
Cymbals, just like drums, just like guitars, can be tuned to fit a specific sound profile.
There's another video showcasing their entire lineup of cymbals with no backing track. Just a drummer and a bunch of mics lol. Check it out, hopefully it's what you were looking for.
Sweets just said so perfectly balanced in the mix Volume wise
Los A y los I, excelente. Me faltaron los K custom
Man that K Sweet pack is LOADED!. Only tiny lil weakness (for me) is the 17" crash instead of an 18. Right now it's listed at $1380 and I'd gladly push it up to 1400 for an 18" crash, then it'd literally be perfect for this guy
How are they doing, do they sound good? I’m thinking of Getting the same.
It was like I expected. I sold the new 17" Crash for a good price, paid like 20 bucks more for an 18" Crash (used, in new condition, on Reverb) and now it's a perfect set.
Sound wise, it's world class. Whether you like the sound tho is up to you. Listen to sound clips where you can and decide 👍🤙
love
I like Zildjian S but they need to make rides that are less pingy. Or at least a thin ride since they have thin crashes. That's just my opinion though.🌝🤷🏾♂️
I have one S set in my son's drum. Just the hi hat worth, the rest is unplayable. Specially the pingy ride.
Have y’all tried the 22” medium? If played lightly enough it actually gives a nice smooth sound rather than a pingy one. Unfortunately they got rid of the 21” model though, now the only ones available are the even medium and rock models.
I like the A custom brilliant but can't afford em 😥 hopefully one day I'll get A custom hats n A custom 20 china
my pick: A hats, K Sweet all round, K special dry crashes!
K SWEET 👌
Sound the same to me. I am not a musician but I have been known to listen to music from time to time
i need those
I will not change my new Zildjian S,medium heavy rock set even for A customs! Really BRUTAL sound!
Isn't the s medium ride a bit too...Sustainy??
Always remember, your not going to get what you hear on a video like this! You never know how it sounds until you play it on your kit in your space.
I felt the same as you for a month or so, but then I noticed everything that was wrong with them so I Gotta disagree with you there. Your opinion is your own and you are certainly entitled to it, but let me share how I roll after the S series.
I had the s rock set, with them big ass heavy crashes, 22" rock ride, and 14"hats. They sound awesome yes, they're probably great for live applications but regardless it takes such a hard hit to really get the crashes to open up musically. I found that to be detrimental to my dynamics, which would have eventually led to my hitting all my other cymbals way to hard and it was in fact having a bad effect on my hits all around the kit.
I only kept the set for about 3 months before reselling and taking a little hit In the wallet to snag the classic "A" Set with the new beat hats and sweet ride. Holy cow what a difference in sound. So versatile, and I can always tell when music has my hats and ride in it cuz sooo many iconic songs do. The classic A's would up...Up....UP your musicality while also adding legit iconic sounds to your kit.
However.... while the hats and ride will work in ANY aspect, the crashes of the Aseries lack the brightness metal genres call for. They will indeed do the trick, but its the one genre the the classic A's cant blend well. That's where the A custom crashes come in! Get a couple of those, you can get great ones at half the price if you buy used (we all should)Frickin masterpieces in every way, and fit all music.
So If your strictly speaking a metal drummer or hard rock drummer then by all means continue with the s's. I still use the 18" China and trash crash from the s series (truly gems), but I must tell you not to dedicate yourself to a set like yours without trying something else for yourself. I never in a million years thought I could sound as good as I do now and that all began to happen the day I got that A cymbal pack.
Psst.... Sweetwater card let's you get one today, like right now if your approved, and payments are minuscule if your only buying a cymbal pack
@@pandanarkystudios5198 I agree about the A & A Customs. I have both New Beats & a Sweet Ride, and they sound so 'right'. I don't use those hats much now since I got K Custom Hybrids (absolutely incredible, so versatile, sound great for everything - New Beats just don't have many tricks). The Sweet Ride is extremely versatile as a ride and crash/ride. But A crashes? Just not bright or cutting enough for big sounding music (like heavy rock or metal). A Custom crashes are the way to go there. However, there are now some nice K / KC crashes that are relatively bright if you want something with classy colour to also use in other applications, like the Sweet, Hybrid & Cluster crashes
@@pandanarkystudios5198 i agree with your opinion but..getting whole set of really good cymbals from Zildjian for just 400 euros is really awesome! I played on Planet Z and ZBT more than 12 years, but i search for a different sound. S series surprised me..B12 alloy and so bright, high pitch sound. I play Noisecore, really heavy genre..something between speed metal and grindcore. All I can say Zildjian is always best choice!
@@pandanarkystudios5198 look what one pro drummer say about S series ruclips.net/video/RiqWD8VLZBU/видео.html
A custom 👌🇬🇧
Are the i series 14 inch hats discontinued?
I love K’s. Name of the song please. Thank you.
Let’s all take a moment for that bass drum sound 😭😭😭
I like K custom special dry! :D
The snare though
I love my planet Z 😆😆
loved the drummer
Good video.I prefer K but use K and As
I'm stuck between the A customs and the K sweet... I like them both equally. Damn!
Same here.
Would have liked to see K Custom Dark in the lineup. Can't decide between A Custom or K Custom Dark
S and k’s both models complimented the song well the A s were imo to raw in a washy way idk my opinion but I agree in good hands they all sound good!
I hope Zildjian will get Jeff to play with the recently-returned Z's as well.
I really like the a customs. They cut through the sound!
what is the brand of your drum kit?
What happened to your
Z custom
Zbt ,zht, zxt? I loved the z custom crashes. I like k, k custom, a custom , and a . I'm a mix matcher.
Z Customs are typically unpopular, they get renamed every few years to try to trick people into buying them. They were Z3 for a while, then "A Heavy" which in my opinion is an insult to A cymbals. The reason I say that is because I believe that with A & K you know what you're getting, and it will be excellent. But with Z, you're not so assured. Every one I've played or heard has a brash 'wrong-ness' to it. Too metallic, not musical enough. I have a 16" Z Custom Rock crash, and it is a one-trick pony, but sounds horrid when not in a certain context. A friend of mine bought a set of Z Customs and his reaction was that Zildjian was awful, over-rated and therefore he would never touch the brand again. I told him that's what he gets for buying Z Customs, he should've gone with reliable A or K, and would never have regretted that. But he'd made up his mind, Zildjian lost a customer forever. Having said all that, I do still like and often use the 13" K/Z combo hihats!
Regarding the sheet cymbals (ZBTs etc) these are reworked every now and then, currently as I & S series, which keeps things fresh. That's because over time they can accumulate a bad rep due to being cheaper less quality, even thought they aren't nearly that bad and are great value for money. Excellent entry-level cymbals.
Sorry for the essay!
@@boomstand2872 No I just wanted to know if I should just take an L. And switch to sabian. I've looked at paiste, as well.
@@quadplyr13 You will find many great cymbals from all top brands, anyone who does enough research or trying out will find multiple cymbals that do what they want them to do. The problem is that it's not intuitive from one brand to the next, and so it's much more work figuring the relative value for money, reliability, versatility etc. Good luck!
@@boomstand2872 much appreciated. I mean I grew up a Zildjian fan. But was later swayed into Sabian. But then recently seeing some of my favorite drummers use Zildjian and even Paiste. I'm at crossroads.
How are you supposed to hear the cymbals above the loud music.
I think we can all agree the K Dry’s and A Customs don’t record well. Everything else sounds amazing.
Half my kit is A series (boring/traditional I guess?, K customs for hats and thrown in where they fit), and I can’t seem to get away from them. But those K Sweets sound really appealing.
Which song is this? Can anyone mention it please.
This song is so fucking good! Came to listen to a cymbal comparison but I think I found my new favorite song. Parellite should be bigger.
And the cymbals sound amazing, as always.
What kind are those A hats? It sounds great!!!
Gotta be New Beats methinks
A and K Sweet fit very well
And K Custom Hybrid?
I am a Jazz drummer and miss very much videos with drummers playing only JAZZ-PATTERNS!!!! Especially on hats!!

I love the 391 pack, especially the 21" Sweet Ride. I just added a 17" A Medium Thin Crash to complete my kit. How do you like yours?
