I'm not sure if I missed it, but I have a Rotapan, and the instructions say after doing the jiggy jiggy back and forth, your supposed to give it a complete 360° spin so that the sweeper bars underneath can get rid of the excess materials in the catch pan. I love my Rotapan, it's my go to piece of kit when I'm out panning and prospecting. It may have been a bit pricey, but it made all my money back the first weekend I took it into the field. I'm a pretty darn good & fast panner, but the Rotapan is even faster. Cheers. 👋🇨🇦
@@fishmut, well being where the gold is, I would think that would be kind of obvious, especially if I was able to pay for my Rotapan in a weekend. I've been panning for gold since I was five years old, well before the advent of the plastic gold pan, and I've own my claims since 1980, when gold was sub 500 dollars. My metal detector on the other hand still owes me money.
@@andyfunke9484 This is the first time I've seen this "Rotapan", without doing any research yet, might you have a good idea how the sweeper bars deal with super fine gold or flour gold as some say?
@@01mustang05, I've panned the tailings from the Rotapan many times. I've never found more than one or two fly specks in the tailings. It has a very good capture rate.

Hey mate. Yes it helps to be up out of the water. Hope your getting some nice gold out your way be nice if it would warm up a bit lol. Cheers for stopping by
Hello Alicia and Steve, Looks like a great device to sample dirt... good to see you both self isolating on the Creek... take care guys stay safe ATB Jim
Thanks 👍Jim, It's a great bit of kit we like it. I think we are lucky to have this spot a nice safe place to be out for some fun.Hope you and your family are doing well mate stay safe we feel for you guys down in Vic hope they can get on top of it soon.
Thanks Dan-o, This area has been worked over hard for 130 years by the 1930s the old timers got an amazing amount of gold the records show 249,000 oz and we know they didn't get it all lol. Cheers for stopping by mate.
Another great vid guys , wow , i like that Rotapan , never seen those before , a simple but easy way to classify a larger amount , and collects the gold in the bottom at the same time using like a centrifuge idea , very good , well done . And you made it out just in time , lol . thanks for sharing guys , cheers .
Glad you enjoyed it Ned, I have always wanted one there were ads in the 90s for them but just never got one. A mate got this one in 2012 and used it once he didn't find any gold so it was chucked in his shed and forgot about. Until i went looking for it lol. That storm was warning us to get out. Cheers for watching mate.
Great minds must think alike we will have to check it out. We were just going to run it in the creek water but when we saw the flood water decided to use the wet classifying in dry area method. At least we didn't have to cart the water to far. Cheers for watching.
Yes they have been out for a long time i remember ads for them in the gold gem & treasure mag back in the 90s. they fit in the law and work fast top bit of kit we think. Cheers for stopping by ADZ
Wanted one of those for years, but I don't live where it's worth trying to look for gold. There are numerous posts and videos on the net about improvements that can be made to the thing.
Hi Garry the Rota pan is made here in Australia they have made them for a long time it must be about 30 years now. They are made by Cresswell engineering. Cheers for stopping by mate.
Obviously a rich gold area but just a few feet can mean good or great finds. Beginning and end of inside bend are best. The black sand indicates where to dig. A small clean out sluice using buckets of water should probably even catch the specks without too much extra equipment to carry. You can't beat some type of sluice for catching gold. That's how mother nature does it in the streams which are natural sluices.
G'Day Dennis yes the Rotapan is Aussie invented & made here to. A few of the gold shops sell them. It works well and it's fast. Cheers for watching mate.
Well done, there a great pan to use. We used one at the Central Deborah in the panning troughs when they got to full of gravel, one of the fastest ways I found to work and concentrate larger amounts of material. Been thinking about getting one for myself as last year they the doctors put a heap of mess in my stomach to keep everything in place. The worst thing is can't bend down to pan much without reflux and pain. Did you get yours on line or from the shop? Cheers Craig ⛏️
G'day Craig ,I (Steve) gave a panning lesson to a heap of people at the Deborah troughs once lol. The Rota pan would be perfect for that trough clean up. If you could set it up so you are standing to work it that would be spot on. I hear ya on the bending over bit i've had 2 rounds of spinal surgeries and its not fun to be bent over for to long. This rotapan came from a mate that got it in 2012 used it once didn't find 10oz LOL so it was chucked in the shed and forgot about until i went looking for it. I think miners den was selling them and prospectors patch in WA. Cheers for stopping by mate.
@@GrotyGold thanks mate, I'll check them out though I think miner's den Bendigo don't sell them anymore. Worked at the Deborah several times over twenty odd years from volunteer, braceman, trainee miner, miner, Forman & Mine manager. Everytime I walked passed the panning troughs had to give lessons best job to sharpen your panning skills ever. When developing the third level we found shoe boxes of gold (jewellery boxes) there still plenty down there if you know were to look😁⛏️
@@craigparry5648 That would be Awesome to see gold like that. Hey Guys! That looks cool but way too cold haha! Good to see you made it back to the creek, must be a while now that you guys have been back there. Hope you're all well after the trip to south coast. The virus seems to be showing up everywhere but up here. We still have no infections but the borders recently opened again so hopefully they can still keep it out of the territory. Nothing exciting happening up here lately just eat, sleep, work......car-ni-va-ly time up here during the dry season, so a few events are still going ahead which is good. Have a good one and good to see the season change in the vids.....up here is just wet or dry haha, stay safe!!
Hey dude. Been freezing down here, heavy frost last night, was 1c when i did the school run this morning. Hoping to get back up the creek in the next few days but short of time now as the boys are playing footy, so there goes Saturdays. Have been meaning to ring, was going to try tonight. Had a good time away. Cheers for watching and will chat soon.
Theoretically, you can keep shoveling into the Rota-Pan until the basin fills with gold, displacing all the lighter sand/gravel. You should dump your catch bucket 5-10 times at least before panning the Rota. No matter how mm any shovels you put in the Rota, you will have the same amount of cons to pan.
They are hard to find, some stores do stock them but they are only made in small batches, if you google Rotapan gold concentrator you might find something. Cheers for stopping by.
