I share your concerns regarding the melee-centric combat. It's my #1 issue with souls games, though I understand that a 3rd person camera makes it tough to balance ranged combat. But with a top-down camera that is much easier to do. Maybe there is an item you can get early on that allows you to trade your own blood for focus, like blood magic that you see in many RPGs.
blood magic would be an interesting concept for the game. Yeah I am unsure how they are going to handle the focus meter in this game for caster classes. Plus its not just casters pretty much any range or pet class just feels like it will not work in the game. Though with EA launching tomorrow I am sure we will find out soon.
I’m really excited for this game. If I’ve learned anything from Moon Studios and what they did with Ori, just let them take you on the journey. Story telling will be amazing and the gameplay will be seamless. They’re obviously breaking down some genre walls so don’t be too concerned that you don’t get “traditional classes”. You’ll just box yourself into half the items not being achievable that way anyway. Instead, you get an idea for the move sets, mechanics and gameplay you enjoy most and get to build into that. I’ve also seen footage of focus/mana having multiple bars so I’d imagine if that’s where you stack your attribute points, you can potentially cast spells to your hearts content. I think certain properties on items will also support with regenerating focus. If anything, I’d maybe like to see more options in the character creator but it isn’t a huge deal.
I hope you are correct because all the footage I have seen seems to have a very big focus on melee combat. Instead of being able to play a mage/summoner/archer it seems we will have a mix of different melee classes knight/rogue. That being said I would love to be wrong. Outside of that I completely agree with you the journey and lore of this game seems like it is going to be amazing. I love the atmosphere and world they are building, it looks incredible. Even the combat they have shown looks really smooth and slick. I really feel like this will be a great game (even if i do have some concerns about it)
@@flexin85 It's not uncommon for games with soft class systems to have a bit less customization in the very beginning of the game. Like, all the gameplay we've seen so far from streamers is from the literal demo for the game, it's not surprising that you don't have quite as many options. However, it seems like you get skill points at a good rate and even in this demo they've been able to find staffs, daggers, and a few ranged weapons, so I really don't see a problem
@@apersonwhomayormaynotexist9868 I agree that a lot of games have less at the start and as you get more powerful buld options open up. I just worry with this game that the game will focus a ton of melee combos and parrys in order to refill your power meter which allows you to cast your spells. On top of that I am unsure how a pet type of class will work in this game? Plus from the gameplay that has been shown I think they may run into so major balancing issues if the game does have magic/range classes. However I still think the game looks really good and it is one I def want to check out. The melee combat, world and atmosphere seem incredible.
You are too hasty to judge combat mechanics. By leveling up and probably by itemization, the number of power bars will increase. So, with 3 to 4 full bars you will be able to cast more spells in combat.
This is just some concerns I have about the game. I am worried the game will mainly be focused on melee combat no matter your character build. Though I admit this is solely speculation and assumption in my part. Once I get my hands on the game I will be able to more fairly judge it.
@@flexin85 I don't think the game divides combat as melee and range. Instead, it takes it as a whole challenging strugle. For example, some melee weapons like great sword has a big reach and some attacks with it could be considered as range attack. I am glad we will not be able to spam range attacks in this game because we have tons of that kind in other ARPGs.
@@buffwarriors I agree with you it seems melee will be mixed with range. However it appears to have a bigger focus on melee combat. While the combat does look really good I just worry the game will have a lack of playstyles because of this. Since the game is going to be a seasonal ongoing title, be able to have alts will be important. Having a wider range of playstyles would be benefical IMO.
@@flexin85 We only saw the first 90 mins of the game yet. I assume at the end game, an intelligence focused build will not be able overcome enemies via melee but certain moves like dodge, pary etc will build more focus power so that you will be able to cast more frequently. That is what makes this game apart from other ARPGs. I honestly don't wanna see this game turned into clasical ARPGs. We got sick of mindless button smashing casting. There is no actual gameplay variety in classical sense of ARPG. There are just button smashing at melee and button smashing at range.
@@buffwarriors it is true we have only seen the first 90 minutes or so of the game. So we do not known how the builds will change in the mid/end game. This is really all assumptions based on what has been shown so far. Hopefully the game offers a ton of build variety and playstyles. Either way it is still something I want to check out and I think it looks great so far. However I disagree that other Arpgs are just button mashers. Fighting Celestials bosses in Grim Dawn or Uber bosses in PoE is no easy task. Even if you are able to over power the end game bosses it takes a lot of planning for your build.
Great video! Though i don't share your concern about melee combat - i mean, bows are definitely in the game (that blacksmith guy sells one on some of the videos i watched, plus i'm pretty sure you can see a bow being used against the first boss in one of the trailers?), also if i understood correctly, the more you're investing in focus, the more you're going to be able to cast spells and special attacks? So I think to play a mage for example, you need to invest in focus and intelligence and you should then be mostly ranged? Also i think the focus bar refills when you parry and roll as well, so no need to be full on melee attacks to refill it (again, if i understood correctly 😅) In any case, i'm hella excited about that game!!! what i'm a bit concern about though is that the narrative is going to be too linear
Thanks! I appreciate you taking the time to watch it and leaving such an insight feedback 😀 I am going to be honest I have not yet seen any bow gameplay. However it is great to hear that the game will offer range weapons. I wonder if they will be main weapons or more of an alternate means of attack? Much like the characters use the bombs throughout the footage? As for the focus meter it does seem that it can increase based on your characters attributes. However I am not sure you can play the game as a pure magic user. While Parries build the focus meter on top of doing melee damge, the parrie ability is still more of an upclose and melee centric ability. (though I would love to be wrong about this, it would be amazing if the game had pet classes, archers and magic casters) BTW I 100% agree with you, the game looks amazing! Even with some of my "concerns" I am still really excited to get my hands on this game. I look forward to giving my first impressions and thoughts!
