a few things to update on: 1. the auto captions are now up! As someone who was never a twilight fan I feel the need to defend it on this one point, Edward never wanted Bella to be a vampire and was super upset at the idea of turning anyone into one. Bella had to work hard to get bit lmao but Edward was kinda framed as being misguided there, so Jesse was probably meant to show what Edward would be if he didn't have that moral boundary.

If he was that concerned about her living her full human life, why marry her straight out of high school. Also, he consistently said he was dangerous and acted like a dick. Even after they were together. He was a repressed, bricked up, old dude hitting on teenagers. Jesse isn't that far off. He just has an extra sprinkle of Lestat in him.
Even now I’m 2023, I still love and miss this show. It was my favorite show on Disney Channel and was super hyped when it aired as a kid. I was gutted when it was cancelled waiting for Season 3 to air in 2013. I will be 16 next month and I’ll always love this show. I still kinda have 1% of hope that there will be a third season but I doubt it will happen. Rip MBAV series 2010-2012.
I'm almost 20 and this show still holds such a special place in my heart. I rewatch it at least once a year, and it makes me so happy every time. It's nice to see that other people are as obsessed as I am!
Something I like about this show is that different characters react to being a Vampire differently. Sarah tries desperately to hold on to her Humanity to the point of nearly starving herself. Just desperately trying to remain Human at all costs. When she finally does fully turn, she spends months being MIA before deciding to return to her friends and enjoy as much time with them as possible. Not being who she was before getting bitten hurts her, and she misses being Human. Erica fully embraces being a Vampire. She fully drops who she was as a Human and completely reinvents herself to fit her new life as a Vampire. While she clearly still holds on to some aspects of her old life and some grudges she had as a Human (the episode where she plans to kill the cheerleader that bullied her as a Human comes to mind) but those are few and far between. Rory just accepts being a Vampire. Despite being a blood-sucking monster, he doesn't let it define him as Erica does and he isn't all "Woah is me, I'm a monster" like Sarah, he just accepts what he's become and just keeps living his best life. These all feel like very natural reactions to becoming a Vampire and all could be very interesting things to explore.
I remember being so disappointed by the season 2 finale. It just ended so abruptly. The only good thing about it is that it prepared me for all the future terrible show finales I would inevitably end up watching 😂😂 (examples including: True Blood, Supernatural, Game of Thrones, Pretty Little Liars, The Vampire Diaries, and probably many more)

I think that if MBAV is inspired by anything, (besides the twilight parody ofc), it's Buffy the Vampire Slayer! The first seasons of Buffy are the same monster of the week format, and some of the episode's basic themes/plots of MBAV are practically taken straight from Buffy, plus some of the character tropes are similar.
2:12:19 - OMG this is so important!! That scene is honestly what grabbed me by the throat w/ this show. I've seen the ending a lot because of the hard hitting emotional beats. Like, these characters who've spent 2 seasons and a movie to solve weird supernatural problems together, care about each other. 2:13:08 - I wouldn't say that this is the only show that does it tho! its very similar to my little pony in this case. And I think in general of more "girly" kid shows. the "friends coming together to defeat evil" is how a majority of My little pony friendship is magic villains are defeated.

I found this show very unique. Benny: yea's he a loser. At least he tries. Ethan: Wish his seer powers got explored more and the origin of them. sarah: good character arc, didn't get fleshed out enough. rory: he just vibin'. Erika: Could've shown more often than she hasn't completely changed despite being a vampire but decent overall. jesse: lost to freshmen, good job. also weirdo. Vampire lore: Would've like to see more of the lore than we were given. they mentioned communication with other vampires and also some sort of vampire code with not stealing from each other. Wizard lore: Is magic usable by anyone? Jane used the spell book and was able to summon a doll to life, would that make her a wizard? Are wizards and vampires mortal enemies by their history? Seer lore: Where does it come from? How did Benny's grandma know ethan was a seer? I could see the seer being apart of a family line but that's purely speculation. Video game: Didn't know there was a mobile version. The more you know I guess. deleted scenes: I didn't know there was deleted scenes out there but neat to find. lost ending: Yea I'd say this doesn't exist as well. Ending: as a finale, its very painful. Everything is left up in the air and we were just starting to really get into many key potential storylines like the history of white chapel. If this show got a season 3 I think that season 2 finale would be decent. Also having the ethan Sarah ship in the middle of the storyline did make flow way less. If that wasn't apart of it I would've given more time so they didn't have to just explain so much shit in part 2. Season 3 idea: I believe stern would survive the Lucifractor but not have power to take care of the vampires on his own so he would retreat to go and find allies. Benny, Ethan, Sarah, and Jesse would had back to ethan's house and explain the situation to his family. Meanwhile Erika and Rory would break out of their mind control and flee to go find Ethan, Benny, And Sarah. Benny would have to learn to perform a spell that is able to remove the hex off of his grandma and truly start to build his magical power as the threat of stern is still looming. You would still have a fair few monster of the week type episodes that can used to help further develop Ethan's and Benny's powers. Late on in the series Stern would return with fellow wizards with the ultimate goal of destroying every vampire, along with benny and Ethan. By then the gang would have mastered all of their powers and along with the help of all the supernatural forces in White Chapel would defeat the corrupt wizards. There would then be a time skip to show how every character life ended up. Benny Would be a top wizard and finally earned the respect of his peers. Ethan Would become the most important figure in White Chapel as he has the best connection to the supernatural. Sarah would come to terms with being a vampire forever and fully embraced her new life. Erika would learn to control her vampire tendencies' and become apart of the vampire Council. Rory would live a fairly stress free life and become famous on the internet. (man I'm not used to writing comments this long.)
How did I never realize Ethans blood was a copy of Bellas in Twilight!? I used to read Bethan fanfiction, there was a ton out there, and that makes sense in context. I didnt interact in fandoms til I was out of high school so I get to experience MBAV in solitude for years. Also, the Wiccan thing makes sense as an influence when you consider the term the grandma used "Earth Priestess", just say witch.

MBAV actually got a lot of magical stuff right from Wicca (I´m a Wiccan) and occultism, like in the evil cheerleader episode they talk about the pentagram symbol (the only problem is that they say it´s always an "evil" thing when it can be good and bad depending on how you use it), the picture day episode when the grandma says that in some cultures it´s said that (analog) pictures can capture the persons soul it´s also true (that they say so), in the love spell episode Benny makes girls fall for them using the love spell as a perfume and that´s also something that exists in Wicca like you can make yourself a perfume that will naturally make people feel more attracted to you but it won´t make anyone fall for you if they don´t feel like it, that in the werewolf episode Benny has a spell in his spellbook that is specifically to turn someone into a werewolf and old European tales say that the first werewolves were actually wizards or magic wielders in general that transformed themselves into werewolves with magic (and then they can turn normal people into werewolves as well), in the episode when Sarah gets possessed they explain that there are rules to follow when you make a seance and those rules are real, in the 1st episode of season 2 Benny makes a "witch bottle" out of a pencil case only by drawing the right symbols on it so they can capture an evil energy and that´s also something from Wicca, in the school play episode they trap an angry ghost inside a mirror by painting some black paint on it so they can set her free when she "moves on", and that is an actual method of banishment. Some of this can be considered offensive for other Wiccans but I love this show so for me it´s great.

Thinking back to when I was first watching this show as an 8y/o, it feels like such a fever dream, but I’m glad to see there’s still an active fanbase/community for it bc it was an amazing show despite the few bad character moments and unfulfilled potential. Also I can confidently say Jesse was my first ever crush which also made the show more enjoyable for me, my kid self was OBSESSED with that man😅)
I remember I watched the movie when it got originally released on Halloween for the first time. I was 11 back then and obsessed with vampires (tvd for life). Till this day I am bitter that they ended the show on the second season I was so excited for Sarah finally getting together with Ethan. My first ever crush was Austin from Austin and Ally 😂.
It´s so great to watch a video with so much love put into it. Here´s a Brazilian viewer who grew watching MVAB as a kid and learned English through watching it as it premiered (Brazil´s Disney Channel released episodes two to three months after airing in the US). This show was my jam.
I was five when the movie came out. Being the Halloween-obsessed kid that I was the mention of vampires alone was enough to get me on board. Then the show began airing on Teletoon which became the first time I watched a show from start to finish. I even kept track of the release schedule with Teletoon's weekly event "Can't Miss Thursdays." During my four-year-long obsession with this series I drew fanart, I rewatched episodes on RUclips, I even dressed up outside of October. But then I just kind of stopped. The season 2 finale left me thinking they were just dead and unable to get it on DVD I eventually got bored rewatching season 1 and the movie. Over the years I'd sometimes think of it, maybe rewatch the movie when the spooky season arose, but besides that nothing. Then your video showed up in my recommended section. Not only have you retrieved memories I had thought lost, such as commercials for the app game, but you've educated me on an array of things I'd missed given that I was a literal child. The fandom especially I didn't know existed for this show, let alone the shipping, fanon, and apparent unpopularity of Sarah. While I've never put one together I understand how much time and research a deep dive like this can take and for what it's worth I thank you for making it. It's people like you that help preserve these niche parts of media that otherwise would be lost over time.

I love this show so much it felt very monster of the week but it also has an overarching story, which is my favorite (scooby do mystery Inc. also falls under this) I love the relationships that everyone seems to have with each other and when I was a kid I wanted to be their friend so bad. also this show made great fanfiction (also longform content about things that at the end of the day I love, but don’t really matter scratch my autistic brain so nicely so thank you)
I feel the sarathan thing would have been a great plot if they Focused on it but maybe if we did get a season 3 I felt it would have been great if they did stay friends at the start but on an episode it gets a Focused where a creature of the week was a beautiful girl that matches Ethan brains and shows interest in him and they stand hanging out and going out and overtime sarah gets jealous like on the hottie episode except Sarah is a bit more enraged because of how she did have feelings for him like that but kept them hidden because of the fact that in her mind they don't have a future together. But as time went on Sarah confess her feelings to Erica or let's be honest mostly rory who actually rooted for them where Benny never saw that happening. And she helps protect Ethan and by like the end of the episode Sarah confess to Ethan that she didn't save him only because it's what she does but because she does like him and she was jealous and say that they want to make a relationship work between them and boom where if we did have a season 3 the B plots of other episode could have be Sarah and Ethan relationship stories as they were now committed to actually start a relationship.
Sarah was done the way all Black girls were done in TV shows in the early to mid 2000s. Either we were just the white main character’s best friend, or we were only side characters for the main characters’ to further their goals. Even though Sarah was part of the main cast and on the main promos, she was no exception to this treatment and I hate it

Total drama, 6teen and this show are my all time favorite and my comfort shows, and i didn't even know they were all from the same creators until like 2 years ago.
When I watched the show I understood that fletchlings couldn't choose to bite without administering venom so I never got how Sarah could bite Ethan to take the venom from him without depositing venom herself... I just thought it was a continuity error or something
i haven't watched the show since i was a kid so i don't remember much, but forefront in my memory is imagery of the two boys spending an inordinate amount of time in each other's bedrooms at night and/or other boys appearing/climbing through bedroom windows.. . again, i haven't watched it in years, but if there was even half as much of that as i remember, then it might explain part of its appeal to little queer kids at the time (whether intentional or not).
It's interesting how different people can pick up on stuff like that and notice. People's perceptions are intriguing. I would've never picked up on that. Maybe with as an adult with knowledge of ships and stuff like that I could view it, but as a kid I probably would have never picked up on something like that, and I probably didn't seeing as how I watched it when I was a kid and this obviously didn't mean much to me lol
I was always so upset they didn't have more seasons. I loved this show, and I felt like some of the episodes were queer coded, like Benny, Rory, and maybe Erica. also remember the show starting in summer and ending during monstober. either that or they just aired reruns during monstober bc I specifically remember bumpers where it was multiple characters from different shows including the main 4 (sorry Rory, you were robbed in my memory). that could've happened for season 2 and not season 1. I also always related to Rory because I felt like he was literally me. that being said, I attached to many goofy male characters as a kid, possibly because I didn't know I was transmasc at the time. i was also in love with Erica, but that probably just explains why I like people who bully me. I always thought she would end up with Benny or Rory, but I wanted her to end up with Sarah because I thought it would a cool, queer gotcha moment. I feel like with a lot of shipping, it can be a lot of straight girls who idolize/f*tishize queer relationships and people. there's a huge obsession with gay men and women from straight girls, especially. this was one of my favorite disney shows of all time because I loved anything dark or gothic, especially vampires. two twinks in two weeks also would be a dope band/album name. and that season 2 finale cliff hanger??? a hate crime. they robbed us. I also always assumed Benny's family practiced the Wiccan religion, which is different from witchcraft. witchcraft can appear withing Wicca, but it's not exclusive to Wicca. you can practice one without the other. (I say this as someone who's practiced both since I was 13). they could've explained the religion to Benny without including witchcraft. that would make the most sense. I do know a few wiccans that didn't appreciate the fact that they implied Wicca and witchcraft are the same, but I liked that they did enough research into Wicca that it was integrated without being goofy or seen as evil or completely misrepresented in general. many movies and shows just swap the words like that. it's not entirely accurate, but not entirely wrong either.

Personally, I think if we were to continue the show and explain all of them aging up(and some dying) maybe except sarah (if we want to keep her a vampire somehow) , would be that the blast didn't kill all the vampires but it took some of the dark energy existing in some vampires- and somehow cured their vampirism and expelling the rest? I'm just sad because this does not have to be a Disney production at allll 😒😒😭😭 Like for sure keep the comedy element because that is what sets it aside from most vampire media, but if large mature thing like syfy/hbo/hulu etc were to pick this up and have this be a mature audience (this came out when i was a tween and im about to turn 21 this november 💃🏽) this could do something 😩

This video is going to get me to rewatch this show. The first time i watch this show I had to be very early teens. Was a fan of the monster of the weeks supernatural shows. By that time I got to this show i had already binge watch Buffy The Vampire Slayer. So i saw all the heavy influences this show got from Buffy. This show was more of a kiddish version of it. I think the reason this show has stuck in my head is cause i hate the ending and I want a more satesfying one. I think the other reason ive been thinking about this show is cause i recently finished a rewatch of Buffy(and watched the spin off Angel for the first time). Maybe follow what i did the first time and watch this right after haha. I also been itching for a modern Buffy show and there have been a few attempts but it feela like we're never going to get it.

It's a little sad how few people know what really was one of the biggest influences of this show... It's the OG: Buffy: the Vampire Slayer. If you like this show, you should definitely watch BtVS, because it's kind of a more mature version of My Babysitter is a Vampire. Also, it's one of the best shows of all time... You just have to get past the first season. If you need more convincing, "Why You Should Watch Buffy" is a good video by Passion of the Nerd explaining.
I can actually confirm that the secret ending appeared on the Humans Vs Vampires website after the end of season one as a way to say that the Human side won! 1:31:34 I remember going on the site to play it a bunch when I was much younger lol don't recall exactly what year tho.
i watched the series as it released in the US and rewatched it multiple years following while it was on netflix (starting around 2014 as i was 10 at the time) and i distinctly remember the scene of jesse getting banished. netflix has added and removed the series and movie multiple times, it could be possible that one of the times it had been re-released it was the version with the deleted scene.
Never saw it myself had stopped watching Disney channel by the time it started to air here, i'm only just a bit into this video and it's already giving me Big Wolf on Campus vibes but a bit more modern
I would say the possibility is very unlikely. Matthew Knight retreating from the public eye is one of my biggest reasons, along with Vanessa Morgan being very popular now and probably deserving of a higher pay than a MBAV reboot could give her. If Ethan and Sarah as characters can't be in it (specifically Ethan), then I think it would just never work.
Great review, very thorough and you gave excellent insight. I had no idea of the rich history and involvement by the fanbase. That shows how well-liked the MBAV universe was. I liked the movie and the series. This could have been a great franchise with season 3 and beyond, and movie sequels. I found very little to criticize, and much to like in the movie and series. The series especially was a nice combination of the supernatural and vampire genres. In the series, they crammed a lot into 22 minutes, with "monster of the week" and character development (each character was unique). I would have liked to see more scenes with Sarah and Erica both with each other and individually. The acting I thought was very good, along with the plot and writing. The cast had lots of chemistry among them. Every penny of the budget was up on screen. Season 2 had an obviously larger budget that was put to good use. Yes, there were a few plot holes but they weren't annoying. I am surprised any scenes were deleted due to PG issues, I didn't think the deleted scenes were a problem at all, and contributed to the plot. This could have been another Star Trek franchise. The original series was canceled after 3 seasons, but came back with numerous full length movies (over 12 or 13 so far) and also series (Deep Space Nine, The Next Generation, Voyager, etc.). Canceling the ST original series is today thought of as a huge blunder by the studio, I feel the same about the MBAV series cancelation.

"Atticus Mitchel, we're not going to go there". What happened??????? I recently was pleased to see him when I watched 'The Hardy Boys'. But are there any controversies that I don't know about or something? That remark sounded so scary to me in our current media climate.
a few things to update on:
1. the auto captions are now up! I'm working on getting the resources together to start making my own captions, but for now the auto generated ones are decently accurate enough to work for the time being.
2. during the video game segment I called the game "Humans vs. Monsters", which is incorrect. The video game title is "Humans vs. Vampires". I won't blame myself too much on that one since most of the "vampire" side is just different monsters seen throughout the show.
3. Rory's full name is "Rory Keaner". I mentioned that the cannon of the show did confirm this yet I didn't actually say his last name for some reason, so sorry about that!

As someone who was never a twilight fan I feel the need to defend it on this one point, Edward never wanted Bella to be a vampire and was super upset at the idea of turning anyone into one. Bella had to work hard to get bit lmao but Edward was kinda framed as being misguided there, so Jesse was probably meant to show what Edward would be if he didn't have that moral boundary.

If he was that concerned about her living her full human life, why marry her straight out of high school. Also, he consistently said he was dangerous and acted like a dick. Even after they were together.
He was a repressed, bricked up, old dude hitting on teenagers. Jesse isn't that far off. He just has an extra sprinkle of Lestat in him.
Even now I’m 2023, I still love and miss this show. It was my favorite show on Disney Channel and was super hyped when it aired as a kid. I was gutted when it was cancelled waiting for Season 3 to air in 2013. I will be 16 next month and I’ll always love this show. I still kinda have 1% of hope that there will be a third season but I doubt it will happen. Rip MBAV series 2010-2012.

Something I like about this show is that different characters react to being a Vampire differently.
Sarah tries desperately to hold on to her Humanity to the point of nearly starving herself. Just desperately trying to remain Human at all costs. When she finally does fully turn, she spends months being MIA before deciding to return to her friends and enjoy as much time with them as possible. Not being who she was before getting bitten hurts her, and she misses being Human.
Erica fully embraces being a Vampire. She fully drops who she was as a Human and completely reinvents herself to fit her new life as a Vampire. While she clearly still holds on to some aspects of her old life and some grudges she had as a Human (the episode where she plans to kill the cheerleader that bullied her as a Human comes to mind) but those are few and far between.
Rory just accepts being a Vampire. Despite being a blood-sucking monster, he doesn't let it define him as Erica does and he isn't all "Woah is me, I'm a monster" like Sarah, he just accepts what he's become and just keeps living his best life.
These all feel like very natural reactions to becoming a Vampire and all could be very interesting things to explore.

I remember being so disappointed by the season 2 finale. It just ended so abruptly. The only good thing about it is that it prepared me for all the future terrible show finales I would inevitably end up watching 😂😂 (examples including: True Blood, Supernatural, Game of Thrones, Pretty Little Liars, The Vampire Diaries, and probably many more)

I think that if MBAV is inspired by anything, (besides the twilight parody ofc), it's Buffy the Vampire Slayer! The first seasons of Buffy are the same monster of the week format, and some of the episode's basic themes/plots of MBAV are practically taken straight from Buffy, plus some of the character tropes are similar.

2:12:19 - OMG this is so important!! That scene is honestly what grabbed me by the throat w/ this show. I've seen the ending a lot because of the hard hitting emotional beats. Like, these characters who've spent 2 seasons and a movie to solve weird supernatural problems together, care about each other.

Vampire lore: Would've like to see more of the lore than we were given. they mentioned communication with other vampires and also some sort of vampire code with not stealing from each other.
Wizard lore: Is magic usable by anyone? Jane used the spell book and was able to summon a doll to life, would that make her a wizard? Are wizards and vampires mortal enemies by their history?
Seer lore: Where does it come from? How did Benny's grandma know ethan was a seer? I could see the seer being apart of a family line but that's purely speculation.
Video game: Didn't know there was a mobile version. The more you know I guess.
deleted scenes: I didn't know there was deleted scenes out there but neat to find.
lost ending: Yea I'd say this doesn't exist as well.
Ending: as a finale, its very painful. Everything is left up in the air and we were just starting to really get into many key potential storylines like the history of white chapel. If this show got a season 3 I think that season 2 finale would be decent. Also having the ethan Sarah ship in the middle of the storyline did make flow way less. If that wasn't apart of it I would've given more time so they didn't have to just explain so much shit in part 2.
Season 3 idea: I believe stern would survive the Lucifractor but not have power to take care of the vampires on his own so he would retreat to go and find allies. Benny, Ethan, Sarah, and Jesse would had back to ethan's house and explain the situation to his family. Meanwhile Erika and Rory would break out of their mind control and flee to go find Ethan, Benny, And Sarah. Benny would have to learn to perform a spell that is able to remove the hex off of his grandma and truly start to build his magical power as the threat of stern is still looming. You would still have a fair few monster of the week type episodes that can used to help further develop Ethan's and Benny's powers. Late on in the series Stern would return with fellow wizards with the ultimate goal of destroying every vampire, along with benny and Ethan. By then the gang would have mastered all of their powers and along with the help of all the supernatural forces in White Chapel would defeat the corrupt wizards. There would then be a time skip to show how every character life ended up. Benny Would be a top wizard and finally earned the respect of his peers. Ethan Would become the most important figure in White Chapel as he has the best connection to the supernatural. Sarah would come to terms with being a vampire forever and fully embraced her new life. Erika would learn to control her vampire tendencies' and become apart of the vampire Council. Rory would live a fairly stress free life and become famous on the internet. (man I'm not used to writing comments this long.)

How did I never realize Ethans blood was a copy of Bellas in Twilight!? I used to read Bethan fanfiction, there was a ton out there, and that makes sense in context. I didnt interact in fandoms til I was out of high school so I get to experience MBAV in solitude for years.
Also, the Wiccan thing makes sense as an influence when you consider the term the grandma used "Earth Priestess", just say witch.

the only reason i knew MBAV wasn’t a dcom is because i watched a lot of canadian shows for some reason and learned that if more than 2 people from degrassi shows up in a cast that it’s filmed in canada
MBAV actually got a lot of magical stuff right from Wicca (I´m a Wiccan) and occultism, like in the evil cheerleader episode they talk about the pentagram symbol (the only problem is that they say it´s always an "evil" thing when it can be good and bad depending on how you use it), the picture day episode when the grandma says that in some cultures it´s said that (analog) pictures can capture the persons soul it´s also true (that they say so), in the love spell episode Benny makes girls fall for them using the love spell as a perfume and that´s also something that exists in Wicca like you can make yourself a perfume that will naturally make people feel more attracted to you but it won´t make anyone fall for you if they don´t feel like it, that in the werewolf episode Benny has a spell in his spellbook that is specifically to turn someone into a werewolf and old European tales say that the first werewolves were actually wizards or magic wielders in general that transformed themselves into werewolves with magic (and then they can turn normal people into werewolves as well), in the episode when Sarah gets possessed they explain that there are rules to follow when you make a seance and those rules are real, in the 1st episode of season 2 Benny makes a "witch bottle" out of a pencil case only by drawing the right symbols on it so they can capture an evil energy and that´s also something from Wicca, in the school play episode they trap an angry ghost inside a mirror by painting some black paint on it so they can set her free when she "moves on", and that is an actual method of banishment. Some of this can be considered offensive for other Wiccans but I love this show so for me it´s great.

Thinking back to when I was first watching this show as an 8y/o, it feels like such a fever dream, but I’m glad to see there’s still an active fanbase/community for it bc it was an amazing show despite the few bad character moments and unfulfilled potential. Also I can confidently say Jesse was my first ever crush which also made the show more enjoyable for me, my kid self was OBSESSED with that man😅)
I remember I watched the movie when it got originally released on Halloween for the first time. I was 11 back then and obsessed with vampires (tvd for life). Till this day I am bitter that they ended the show on the second season I was so excited for Sarah finally getting together with Ethan. My first ever crush was Austin from Austin and Ally 😂.

It´s so great to watch a video with so much love put into it. Here´s a Brazilian viewer who grew watching MVAB as a kid and learned English through watching it as it premiered (Brazil´s Disney Channel released episodes two to three months after airing in the US). This show was my jam.

I was five when the movie came out. Being the Halloween-obsessed kid that I was the mention of vampires alone was enough to get me on board. Then the show began airing on Teletoon which became the first time I watched a show from start to finish. I even kept track of the release schedule with Teletoon's weekly event "Can't Miss Thursdays." During my four-year-long obsession with this series I drew fanart, I rewatched episodes on RUclips, I even dressed up outside of October. But then I just kind of stopped. The season 2 finale left me thinking they were just dead and unable to get it on DVD I eventually got bored rewatching season 1 and the movie. Over the years I'd sometimes think of it, maybe rewatch the movie when the spooky season arose, but besides that nothing.
Then your video showed up in my recommended section. Not only have you retrieved memories I had thought lost, such as commercials for the app game, but you've educated me on an array of things I'd missed given that I was a literal child. The fandom especially I didn't know existed for this show, let alone the shipping, fanon, and apparent unpopularity of Sarah. While I've never put one together I understand how much time and research a deep dive like this can take and for what it's worth I thank you for making it. It's people like you that help preserve these niche parts of media that otherwise would be lost over time.

I love this show so much it felt very monster of the week but it also has an overarching story, which is my favorite (scooby do mystery Inc. also falls under this) I love the relationships that everyone seems to have with each other and when I was a kid I wanted to be their friend so bad. also this show made great fanfiction (also longform content about things that at the end of the day I love, but don’t really matter scratch my autistic brain so nicely so thank you)

I feel the sarathan thing would have been a great plot if they Focused on it but maybe if we did get a season 3 I felt it would have been great if they did stay friends at the start but on an episode it gets a Focused where a creature of the week was a beautiful girl that matches Ethan brains and shows interest in him and they stand hanging out and going out and overtime sarah gets jealous like on the hottie episode except Sarah is a bit more enraged because of how she did have feelings for him like that but kept them hidden because of the fact that in her mind they don't have a future together. But as time went on Sarah confess her feelings to Erica or let's be honest mostly rory who actually rooted for them where Benny never saw that happening. And she helps protect Ethan and by like the end of the episode Sarah confess to Ethan that she didn't save him only because it's what she does but because she does like him and she was jealous and say that they want to make a relationship work between them and boom where if we did have a season 3 the B plots of other episode could have be Sarah and Ethan relationship stories as they were now committed to actually start a relationship.
Sarah was done the way all Black girls were done in TV shows in the early to mid 2000s. Either we were just the white main character’s best friend, or we were only side characters for the main characters’ to further their goals. Even though Sarah was part of the main cast and on the main promos, she was no exception to this treatment and I hate it

When I watched the show I understood that fletchlings couldn't choose to bite without administering venom so I never got how Sarah could bite Ethan to take the venom from him without depositing venom herself... I just thought it was a continuity error or something

i haven't watched the show since i was a kid so i don't remember much, but forefront in my memory is imagery of the two boys spending an inordinate amount of time in each other's bedrooms at night and/or other boys appearing/climbing through bedroom windows.. . again, i haven't watched it in years, but if there was even half as much of that as i remember, then it might explain part of its appeal to little queer kids at the time (whether intentional or not).
It's interesting how different people can pick up on stuff like that and notice. People's perceptions are intriguing. I would've never picked up on that. Maybe with as an adult with knowledge of ships and stuff like that I could view it, but as a kid I probably would have never picked up on something like that, and I probably didn't seeing as how I watched it when I was a kid and this obviously didn't mean much to me lol
I was always so upset they didn't have more seasons. I loved this show, and I felt like some of the episodes were queer coded, like Benny, Rory, and maybe Erica. also remember the show starting in summer and ending during monstober. either that or they just aired reruns during monstober bc I specifically remember bumpers where it was multiple characters from different shows including the main 4 (sorry Rory, you were robbed in my memory). that could've happened for season 2 and not season 1. I also always related to Rory because I felt like he was literally me. that being said, I attached to many goofy male characters as a kid, possibly because I didn't know I was transmasc at the time. i was also in love with Erica, but that probably just explains why I like people who bully me. I always thought she would end up with Benny or Rory, but I wanted her to end up with Sarah because I thought it would a cool, queer gotcha moment. I feel like with a lot of shipping, it can be a lot of straight girls who idolize/f*tishize queer relationships and people. there's a huge obsession with gay men and women from straight girls, especially. this was one of my favorite disney shows of all time because I loved anything dark or gothic, especially vampires. two twinks in two weeks also would be a dope band/album name. and that season 2 finale cliff hanger??? a hate crime. they robbed us. I also always assumed Benny's family practiced the Wiccan religion, which is different from witchcraft. witchcraft can appear withing Wicca, but it's not exclusive to Wicca. you can practice one without the other. (I say this as someone who's practiced both since I was 13). they could've explained the religion to Benny without including witchcraft. that would make the most sense. I do know a few wiccans that didn't appreciate the fact that they implied Wicca and witchcraft are the same, but I liked that they did enough research into Wicca that it was integrated without being goofy or seen as evil or completely misrepresented in general. many movies and shows just swap the words like that. it's not entirely accurate, but not entirely wrong either.

Personally, I think if we were to continue the show and explain all of them aging up(and some dying) maybe except sarah (if we want to keep her a vampire somehow) , would be that the blast didn't kill all the vampires but it took some of the dark energy existing in some vampires- and somehow cured their vampirism and expelling the rest?
I'm just sad because this does not have to be a Disney production at allll 😒😒😭😭 Like for sure keep the comedy element because that is what sets it aside from most vampire media, but if large mature thing like syfy/hbo/hulu etc were to pick this up and have this be a mature audience (this came out when i was a tween and im about to turn 21 this november 💃🏽) this could do something 😩

The first time i watch this show I had to be very early teens. Was a fan of the monster of the weeks supernatural shows. By that time I got to this show i had already binge watch Buffy The Vampire Slayer. So i saw all the heavy influences this show got from Buffy. This show was more of a kiddish version of it.
I think the reason this show has stuck in my head is cause i hate the ending and I want a more satesfying one.
I think the other reason ive been thinking about this show is cause i recently finished a rewatch of Buffy(and watched the spin off Angel for the first time). Maybe follow what i did the first time and watch this right after haha.
I also been itching for a modern Buffy show and there have been a few attempts but it feela like we're never going to get it.

It's a little sad how few people know what really was one of the biggest influences of this show... It's the OG: Buffy: the Vampire Slayer. If you like this show, you should definitely watch BtVS, because it's kind of a more mature version of My Babysitter is a Vampire. Also, it's one of the best shows of all time... You just have to get past the first season. If you need more convincing, "Why You Should Watch Buffy" is a good video by Passion of the Nerd explaining.

I can actually confirm that the secret ending appeared on the Humans Vs Vampires website after the end of season one as a way to say that the Human side won! 1:31:34 I remember going on the site to play it a bunch when I was much younger lol don't recall exactly what year tho.
i watched the series as it released in the US and rewatched it multiple years following while it was on netflix (starting around 2014 as i was 10 at the time) and i distinctly remember the scene of jesse getting banished. netflix has added and removed the series and movie multiple times, it could be possible that one of the times it had been re-released it was the version with the deleted scene.

I would say the possibility is very unlikely. Matthew Knight retreating from the public eye is one of my biggest reasons, along with Vanessa Morgan being very popular now and probably deserving of a higher pay than a MBAV reboot could give her. If Ethan and Sarah as characters can't be in it (specifically Ethan), then I think it would just never work.

Great review, very thorough and you gave excellent insight. I had no idea of the rich history and involvement by the fanbase. That shows how well-liked the MBAV universe was.
I liked the movie and the series. This could have been a great franchise with season 3 and beyond, and movie sequels. I found very little to criticize, and much to like in the movie and series. The series especially was a nice combination of the supernatural and vampire genres.
In the series, they crammed a lot into 22 minutes, with "monster of the week" and character development (each character was unique). I would have liked to see more scenes with Sarah and Erica both with each other and individually. The acting I thought was very good, along with the plot and writing. The cast had lots of chemistry among them. Every penny of the budget was up on screen. Season 2 had an obviously larger budget that was put to good use. Yes, there were a few plot holes but they weren't annoying.
I am surprised any scenes were deleted due to PG issues, I didn't think the deleted scenes were a problem at all, and contributed to the plot.
This could have been another Star Trek franchise. The original series was canceled after 3 seasons, but came back with numerous full length movies (over 12 or 13 so far) and also series (Deep Space Nine, The Next Generation, Voyager, etc.). Canceling the ST original series is today thought of as a huge blunder by the studio, I feel the same about the MBAV series cancelation.
