Grew up in 80s and there are a ton of shows that should be brought back...Manimal,War of the Worlds,Freddys Nightmares,Friday the 13 show(which was wierd, because it had nothing to do with the movies),Monsters,Tales from the Darkside etc,and alot more.

For the time it came out, my work schedule kept me from seeing episodes. I've seen brief clips in vids. I agree the show is underrated and was at the time by viewers (obviously). The FX for the time and tech (especially on a network budget) were impressive - it was definitely a concept pushing the envelope on what *could* be done. I suspect the daytime weakness was actually b/c the limited FX available were easier to pull off in dark night scenery. As a reboot, I'd say stick with live action. Current tech allows for much finer rendering than they could back then. Yes, stay light - do NOT get "dark and gritty." Strictly speaking, in a new reboot the original could be brought [if demand was there], as it would simply make the AI generation seem as an older, wiser face. Possibilities are rich. GOOD vid and commentary.

So it's Reverse Tron. Neat. When I saw the thumbnail I expected it to be like a live action Turbo Teen.

Turbo Teen live action that's a good idea.

My favorite show of all time. Literally just a hair above Star Trek TNG for me. People mock it as being a terrible clone of Tron. Ironic, because I think Tron was absolute trash, and this show was outstanding. Mind you, what makes the show work is Chuck Wagner. He played played the character with perfection: a being who knows his power, but is humble to the core.
Would the show work today? Highly unlikely. Even *if* they were to be faithful to the original premise, I can't think of a single actor today who has the presence or charisma that Chuck Wagner has. Even if they could get thru that hurdle, it would be hard to sell a premise of a superhero hologram to today's cynical kids. The show *could* work if Automan's job was to bring people out of cynicism back to a general feeling of hope (the original series was basically an optimistic take on computers. "Look what computers can do for us! they can even fight crime and be superheroes!"). It saddens me to say that, because I love the show dearly.

Yeah, there was this weird 80's obsession with people turning into things. Several movies about cars, there was a cartoon... Bionic Man kinda had something to do with it. Then Mr. T got a cartoon... It was weird.
    The cartoon was Turbo Teen.
Another weird B movie about super cars was The Wraith.
Then we had Air wolf, Riptide (had the weird pink faced helicopter). Helicopter films.
    And then... Knight Rider.
I also think Transformers had something to do with it. But that was coming from Japan being modified to American audiences. Hence the weird voice acting for robots.

There was also Manimal that stared Simon MacCorkindale. I found it interesting but was not that big of fan of it.

@@NoFunChannelMytake Automan works as a premise for me because being a hologram with a powerful AI is basically a superman. You can believe such a being could be a crime fighter. Manimal on the other hand: hmm, he turns into a tiger, or a bird. "Oh noo! get the 12 gauge! problem eliminated".

Automan was also good friends with ZAXXON. Fans of the show know this is true.
