Jaguar XFR exhaust sound with and without X pipe

- My car has always had Spires back boxes. I wanted it louder so found a second hand custom centre section with no silencers and an X pipe. Sounded lovely at idle and stationary revving. But driving was actually quieter! Under hard acceleration, the exhaust went very quiet but was very raspy. I also noticed a big lack of mid range power.
I have now swapped back to a standard centre section. Overall, I prefer this setup and the car is MUCH faster.
Sounds great, side note you know a proper driver when you see those Michelin’s on. The Dunlop’s are okay, but I’ve just put PS4 A’s on my XFR and it’s night and day.
Thank you. Yes, the Pilot Sport 4S is a phenomenal tyre! Only tyre I’d use! When I bought the car, it had a nearly new set of ContiSport Contact 5 which I took straight off in favour of PS4S. Transformation!
@@sipowell85 no worries glad to speak to a proper petrol head. I’ve ran conti sport 5s and I agree is good but Michelin’s are the ones to have.
Both sound awsome but the first clip with just the backbox reminds me of a big cat growling/roaring, perfect for a jag 👌

So having just the rear spires stage 2 boxes you noticed more power? Than having them with the x pipe? I’m considering getting spires stage 2 here soon. Beautiful XFR!
The X pipe I had was a poorly made custom pipe and it definitely lost me a significant amount of power. I guess the proper Spires X pipe may be better.
But I do prefer the sound without the X pipe too. To me, the Spires Stage 2 back boxes are the absolute perfect setup. The stock centre section is not very restrictive either so I’d leave it as is.

@@cumminsturbo98 I have considered it, but to be honest I’m so happy with how it sounds now, I’m loathed to mess with it again. Plus I’ve heard that it’s very droney inside with the full Spires system. Something I definitely don’t want.
@@sipowell85was your x pipe located towards the front after the cats or in the middle of the exhaust? I’m thinking of adding a magnaflow x pipe to mine and deleting the mid resonators
Loss of power? Xpipe supposed to give a little more power mid range to heavy acceleration.
Yes, I dare say a decent and made X pipe would do. But this was a shockingly made POS. 😆 Threw it in the bin. If I bought another XFR (which I would in a heartbeat) I’d get a decent system made up. Unfortunately, Spires have discontinued their exhausts.
Im a bit late but the xfr-s has the cross over just to add power, I had always heard that the x pipe in place of the first resonator adds power
@@keithk2920 I have an xpipe on my car and it feels like it has more power. Also put some Magnaflow axlebacks because I like the deeper tone. Good combo with xpipe since it evens out the tone without getting too raspy.

I bought it second hand. It appeared to be home made and was utter rubbish. I scrapped it!
