I've heard so many people say nothing but positive things about Mogami cables. First I heard about Vangelis passing away 😢 Very well respected in my house as I grew up listening to him and Tomita back in the 70's. Nice wee nod of respect to the man you did there Simon. Interesting sub by the sound of it and plenty of low down grunt.
Thanks Steve, sad to see him go. It’s hard not to say positive things about most cables if the price isn’t crazy. A digital cable really is a just a digital cable with small differences or forgettable differences in sound to another.
Interesting idea to go for 8330 plus a sub rather than 8340. I’ve used Genelec for 2 channel for years and love them, now using them for surround LCR too. Main issue seems to be they like being near field (2m distance) much more than mid field (3-4m) but that could be a lack of acoustic treatment in my cinema room.
This subwoofer is amazing! I have the 7050 version of it (without GLM), paired with Genelec 8020 and the performance (in near-field and in room with low volume) is surpassing hi-fi systems of much, much, much higher prices!
Huhh,, didnt see this one coming. Cool,, 🤩. I work daily with the 8351,s + 7370 sub, and they leave nothing else to wish for, and were using the exact same blue Mogami/Neutric AES/EBU cables,, 😅. If i could afford it, a system like that would adorn my livingroom. ))))😋(((( As said many times before. You are the number one YT HiFi reviewer Simon. Cheers,, 🍻😎👍👍
Thanks Irene, I think if I downgraded / moved abroad etc and wanted a more compact system without the hassle I’d take the node, these speakers and this sub, get a great room and have done with the fuss. Lol.
Definitely agree with you Irene, Simon is simply Nr 1 HIFI reviewer on RUclips and I plan to one day publicly acknowledge that on my channel, Shine on✨
I hated your review. I was honestly hoping I could get by with just the 4351 without the sub but deep down I know I need to get the matching sub for the room. Great review and loved the details and the time you took to show the graphics daisy chain.
I never thought I would hear “Mogami” and “cheap” in the same sentence. There’s nothing cheap about Mogami cable. They are made in a single factory in Japan to tight specifications, not in China. Anything more expensive than Mogami (or similar quality cable) is simply placebo for audiophools and easy cash for the companies exploiting them. Otherwise great video though!
That used to be the case before all the mm wave 5G stuff but its not now . We have yet more high power short waveform frequencies to deal with saturating our environment. I get you though when you start paying multiple hundred and even into the thousands for one short length cable it is a total piss take but i just at the level of QED reference entry level XLR they absolutely trash the mogami stuff like.
Will a single 7350A work well with Genelec 8351B? Confused on the digital In/Out … is that required? I’m driving these Genelecs from a MOTU audio interface (analog out).
Hey Simon, another good review, has made me think about Subwoofers... I noticed you were using a PME Dac, is this Dac your main reference Dac or you prefer another Dac?
Thanks Anthony. I wouldn’t say it’s necessarily a reference dac, I just use the best I have. I have tried better. I’m Trying to get a very premium one to review atm as I love a DAC!
@@13thnotehifireviews7 oh cool I’m actually in the same process. I have the RME currently but trying out the Holo spring 3 at home. I’m also going to try a Chord Dave if I can find a dealer who’ll let me try at home.

Ok. Saw your 8330 review and RUclips showed me this. Which is exactly what I needed to know. I will still try to audition the setup but I feel this is my endgame. Don’t even need an external dac! BUT, my tv, and most, only has an optical out. Neutrik’s impedance transformers only take a coax input it looks like. What do I need for optical to AES/EBU?
Hi, I have a pair of non Genelec active speakers which don't have a sub out which I would love to add a sub to. If I understand you correctly I could feed a Digi/Analog input to the Genelec & then out to my active speakers either Digi or Analog. Is this correct? Thanks for your great content. Cheers.... 👍🏼
Thanks for your nice comment. What speakers do you have? The manual says on page one you can use this sub with any analogue or digital audio monitors but you’ll obvious loose benefits like the auto phase feature in glm, and tailoring cross over point and room response curve. I suspect if your speakers can control crossover to the sub in analogue or digital domain it makes sense to go into the sub afterwards. depends on your speakers. That would be my thought process for now.
Hmmm. I have a pair of 8341AWM's after owning my fair share of passive speakers and I've never been happier with my system. I used to spend days measuring my room using REW but, since owning these 8341's with the GLM kit I've not once felt the need to fiddle with anything at all. I wish I had known about Genelec 15 years ago!! Do you feel a pair of 7350A's would be sufficient for the 8341's or will I need their bigger brother the 7360A's? Currently using a pair of sealed BK 400's but get lots of ground loop issues with them. A pair of Genelec subs would solve all that plus have the added benefit of being easily integrated with my 8341's via the GLM kit. Any thoughts? 🤔 Mike.
Probably a little bit late, but ... I have 8331 + 7350. The subwoofer is placed close to a corner so that increases SPL to some degree. After calibration level compensation for the speakers is -3,5 dB (crossover set to 80 Hz). So with the larger, more powerful 8341 you will probably need to restrict them too much. I would opt for 2 x 7350 or 1 x 7360.
Hi! Thx for this nice review. Been wondering, how did you get the white/raw finish with the 8330a? Been trying to find them but could only find the black/raw finish. Thx for the tip and keep it going, appreciate your work and productions, especially the sound. 👍🏻
Thanks very much. I think someone asked me about that in the last video - might have been yourself , but I think it’s non standard from checking out their website, but maybe Genelec could do it in white. Could be worth asking.
Thanks for the review. I'm considering this subwoofer, but I aspire to one day pair it with 8340 or 8341. Listening distance would be about 1.75 meters. Internet search reveals mixed opinions as to whether this is a good pair for those monitors, or whether a 7360 is required. Do you have an opinion?
I have a 7350a on order and am going to pair it with a 8341. My main reason was space constraint as I do not have much space in my room. According to genelec the 7350a is effective in rooms with a volume up to 75m³ and my room is i believe 20-30 range last i measured. That being said I have no concern it will be too little. I can give further thoughts when I receive it. additionally if I find myself moving to a bigger space in the future I will most likely add a 2nd subwoofer, generally speaking I think dual subwoofer can offer a good advantage if you need to do that upgrade in the future.
@@Styrant I believe it should work, and the good news is, if you end up with a second so you get about a 6db boost, so then the pair will match the spl output of the 8341 pair perfectly.
@@AlexanderHaibel Just got it yesterday, some notes. 1. In my room the sub works perfect and goes down to about 23hz and also its worth mentioning it would be a perfect solution to filling out nulls in your response however the highest crossover is 100hz so if your null is 120hz or so you might need to move your mains, otherwise the sub will fill out the bass perfectly as it did in my room. First impression the change seemed subtle but as I started listening to some mixes and working on bass in particular everything was less ambiguous and I find myself being more sure of my changes. Me personally in my room i dont regret not getting the 7360 the 7350 works great.
Simon, once again a brilliant review and salute to you for the Vangelis tribute at the end. Inspired by you I’ve decided to go with Genelec for my “Hi-Reality Machine” project. One big question that I have been researching and researching: how would you digitally/directly connect a MacBook Pro to 8330s or 7350? (i.e. via Mac’s optical out). Does Neutrik have any optical to AES/EBU converter? So far I’ve found the Yellowtec PUC2 Lite USB to AES/EBU but that costs $413. What I’m after is to go completely DAC free since the Genelec do the DAC themselves as you pointed out. Alternatively I would go with 8320/7350 with an external DAC.
Thanks very much. I suppose you could get some form of converter but don’t know. My MacBook only has usb-c outputs , might have changed with newer one.
@@13thnotehifireviews7 I just read an Appleinsider article from 2016 that “New MacBook Pro drops optical audio out through headphone jack”. That was quite a surprise to me. With other words we are only left with USB-C. Then probably the least expensive way would be a USB-SPDIF (digital to digital) converter and then a SPDIF to BNC cable to connect to the input of your Neutrik impedance converter.

Thank you very much Ken. I do believe being an audiophile is 95% of the reason because let’s be frank high end hifi is because we want SQ to spend that much.
