Amazing Gracias!
Hi Matt, I forgot how to load your settings on to camera. Is there any instructional video that you made? I recently updated the firmware v3 but not sure how I loaded your setting before. Grateful for your help. Thanks
Great video Matt. You're awesome. You inspired me to a RUclips channel here in Africa. And now, anytime I talk about a Sony cameras, I can't help but to talk about your genius to my audience. Still a very little channel but with inspiration from you I'm sure this will be great.
You're the real champ!
Extraordinarily useful video, and I love the kind of presence Matt has : knowledgeable, practical, and authentic.
Thank you! Just received my A7s3 and this will save me so much time setting up. I love your use of all the knobs and buttons. Ready to run and gun shoot!
Your videos are just the best, and your channel is successful for a reason. THANKS!
These 2 videos are public service. Brilliant! Thank you!
Honestly this is the missing manual for shooting video on the A7S3. So much work & info, thanks!
Thanks Terry!
i just got an a7s3 yesterday and put in your custom settings download. this is also my first mirrorless camera ever owned (prior gopro user) I've watched this video like 10 times now trying to remember and figure out how to work this Flux Capacitor. however i have thoroughly enjoyed your videos.
JUST GOT MY SONY A7Siii !!!!! Thanks for the help!!!!!!!!!! YOU ROCK!
Useful advice, thank you! But I miss that buttom that adds an "S" and turns my A73 into an A7S3 😉
Same 😭
That button has a name called " wallet".... Make sure you set to " double" to match the price of the S version in comparison to that of A73...
@@rock3times :)
This was hands down the best video series I have found for the A7s III - THANK YOU! I have had this for ages but never had the time (nor, frankly, the expertise) to get the most out of it. Hopefully, that will now be closer to reality!
This is probably a long shot - but if I have a very bright background and a bit shadowy for the subject, is there a way for the camera to adjust exposure for both without adding lots of lighting? The iPhone seems to do some wizardry that I don't understand to make that happen!
If you film in log and expose brightly without zebras in your highlights thst should help. But the iPhone is doing a lot of magic and work to brighten things up
@@whoismatt thanks, yes, I expected as much! I will try as you suggest as I am learning gradually and just love the camera! Thanks for your great work here.
The video that changed my life. I have been using this camera since launch, and this would have saved me so much hassle, and This will make my future shots better. Thank you!!!
Thank you! The rest of the guys who tried this paled in comparison to your video!! 👏
You rock man!!! Just moved to Sony this week, its like a whole new world
Thank you for this video. I've been procrastinating tackling MENUS and the rest of the setup for literally months. This was very helpful.
Yesss! Been waiting for this. This is incredibly helpful for someone who is just finally getting serious about wedding filmmaking and is still learning all the advanced stuff there is to know. Thanks a million!!!
Thanks for this! I honestly had a great time changing my settings while following along with both videos. It was like a low stakes video game 👍
I watched this video when first released and it was a big help in setting up my A7siii. Now I haven't been shooting for a while and no one has done a better job of describing the proper and best set up for this camera than you. And by the way, there is no description in the Sony manual that begins to explain the functions the way you do. Many thanks again. Clear and concise.
All done!! A7siii all set up. Awesome Settings vid Matt. Now waiting for my Fx3 to arrive tomorrow. I will take the shortcut and just download the setting since I’ve watch part 1 & 2. Thanks again champ.
Amazing! Thanks again. Watched diligently, rewound numerous times. Camera set up and ready to go!
I just found your channel and your videos are the BEST!! I love the way you explain things with a little humor.
Thank you Matt!! You made something that was supper complicated pretty easy.
Everytime favourite and useful information we will get from you brother ☺️❤️ although is so useful for beginners as you give brief information about menu setup as in part 1...so nice to see you🙌🏼🥂
Dear Matt, great stuff and saves me soo much time to figure out what is what...I saw the previous video you made on the menus but for the button lay out functions it would be great if you make one for the FX3 cause the layout is quite different :-) thanks!!
This was easy to adapt for the a7iv. Insanely useful dude thank you!
This Part2 is Another WINNER. I used it to translate to my new A7 IV with just a few exceptions. Now it's just a matter of remembering where everything is! HA. I make notes for each change, because unfortunately, Sony doesn't make a way to backtrack to the "default" setting for a single option. Only useful for those "OCD" times of wondering, "Hmmm, what was the default value?"
THANKS AGAIN, MATT...GREAT JOB!
Just got the Sony a7siii & just found your channel. Super helpful! 🙏
Love these guides.. ta Matty!
Thank you so much Matt for sharing. you made my life so easy and my workflow is faster. bless you
So Matt, you’re awesome, so much information coming out of you its like the ol drinking from a fire hose routine. I just charged up my A7s III battery for the first time and started your video. When I really want to lean something I take written notes all along the way meaning: pause / write / rewind / write some more and then push play - then REPEAT this 1000 times. Whew!! But its just that you have so much good stuff here. THANK YOU, YOU’RE A GREAT TEACHER.
Haha thanks so much Phillip! Glad to help!
Appreciate it bro! Hope to see you at VQ this year again man! LET'S RAGEEEE!
you are my idol! thanks so much for your work
Just what I was looking for! So helpful, thank you 🙏
Great info Matt! Lol I still don’t have the A7siii but I’ve been watching all your videos In the playlist so I can get an idea of how I want to set up my camera when I get it.
Super helpful Matt! Thank you so much for this fantastic walk-through!
Thanks Chris!
Hallo Matt, one suggestion from a guy in a german forum, wich works very well: you can register time automatic to one of the function keys. While prssing the button, you switch between manual mode and automatic. If you have no time to set your exposure correctly, this may save your shot. You get instantly a well balanced clip. The A7SIII performs changin in the shutter very smoothly. I combined this with the exposure compensation Dial set to +1 (for ETTR). I normally prefer shooting in manual mode, but this workflow is for run and gun a big plus. It is so damed fast. I registered this function to AEL, works very fine for me.
hey:) i just sent you an email regarding this setting. thanks!
@@peteydx Sorry, your Mail is in the Spamfolder. I will take a look...
This is a lot of help! Thank you Who is Matt!!!
Freaking amazing. I’m saving this for the future when I can afford it 🙏🏻! But so helpful. You’ve got me through so many weddings with the Sony a7ii settings setup 😎💪🏻
Brilliant. Exactly what I needed. Thanks Matt.
I just bought my FX3 last week. I was really hesitant to dive into the menu and make settings choices - my typical behavior each time I get a new camera, which is not often. I found your Custom Buttons Setup really helpful. Thank you.
You are a legend!! The Best A7S iii tutorials!!
I love run and gun shooting. It's the most fun thing in film making (in my opinion) thanks for making this.👍
Great advice and instructions, Matt!!
Thank you for being such a clear communicator! You are a great teacher! My favorite camera guru on RUclips!
Matt is a Gamechanger
Finally! Someone who says 'ISO' correctly!
Amazing tutorial as usual! Thanks Matt
Holy mother of God, I have been using a Sony camera for a long time now and I was missing the customization of the fn menu. Game changer bam!
Awesome!
thnx for this 2 videos, helped me a lot to learn also my camera and settings!
I want to thank you for this excellent tutorial and for giving all of us your camera settings to copy them to our cameras. Pt 1 and Pt 2 of these videos plus the How to Expose in SLOG3 helped me achieve absolutely great results last week. Your settings are really practical and really work, and your tips are to the point. Unless other self-proclaimed gurus (e.g. Mark Galer) your tips actually made me shoot the video with the cinematic look I was looking. Other RUclipsrs DON'T give away all their tricks. They are selfish with their "secrets".
You mentioned that you were able to change the AF button to the record start stop that is such a cool feature and I would love to do it but I don’t find record start stop in the menu. Can you please teach us how to do that? thank you so much. This video is so informative. Unbelievable how do you break it down so clearly you are so talented
I loved your video on the Tascam DR-10L settings, and I was just thinking, "I hope there's a guide like that for this new camera my friend told me to rent." Lo and behold, you saved the day again! Thank you!
Haha perfect! Glad to help John!
What an amazing video Matt, you are the king of customisation! Speaking about your Select Finder/Monitor on MANUAL mode and controlled by the REAR2/No.5 Down Button, I have just discovered and some may find useful to set the Select Finder/Monitor on AUTO mode. This way, by pressing the Down Button you can set the screen on and off to save battery even during video recording/time lapses and you still have the Auto Viewfinder feature when you get your eye close to it :)
Your Dial Settings are fantastic too and I thought that since the Dial No.3 is for 4K 120fps, which means shutter at 1/250 and consequently a lot less light, some may want to register it with a faster aperture than f2.8. I set mine as fast as possible to f1.4, as my Sigma 16mm allows that. If the lens you're using can't open that much, you could register Dial No.3 with a higher ISO like 12,800 as it's the High Base ISO in S-Log2 and S-Log3 on the A7siii, therefore the cleanest one in that range :)
Super helpful & thank you for the .DAT file! However, I wanted to let folks know I followed the instructions, but there was not folder after "Private". To solve this I had to FIRST save the current button setup to the memory card (after formatting) THEN it showed the CAMSET folders, etc.
Just a friendly suggestion if you run into the same thing!
You're a lifesaver! Thanks!!
Thank you Matt, you da real MVP
I now have my Sony Sherpa. Thanks Matt. Climbing the summit!
thanks Matt... All set... I just screw all of my first shots from Milwaukee Bucks Championship Parade and Our trip to the West. Now I'll gave to deal with those XAVC HS 4K files that and already can tell that stabilizing them will take me for ever... But got some stunning shots from Glacier NP and Yellowstone But since 'm not coming back there anytime soon looks like I have no choice and will give my computer a hard time soon... Thanks. Cheers
I've referred to these two videos multiple times so THANK YOU for taking the time to make them. I prefer to do all this manually rather than just download your settings as it gets me more familiar with the menus. Now the firmware has been updated for the A7s3 would you do an update? Also some help specifically setting up the FX3 would be super useful as some of the settings differ. I have one of each.
Again, thanks for this video also. It helped massively 😀
You are such a bro. Thanks again dude.
Great video thanks! Helped me a lot to get my A7IV setup! :)
Fantastic teacher and greatly paced! Thank you, sir!
Thank you man! That was exactly what I needed.
Super Thankful for this Video. Appreciated
Hi Matt.I'm a big fan of yours and as a beginner have learnt heaps. Thanks so much. The only frustrating issue is I have an FX3 and the buttons are configured differently from the a7Siii. Really want to set up as you have! Any advice? Thanks again Matt for your inspiration and sharing your knowledge!
Incredibly helpful!!
Thanks Matt
Another life saver! 🙏
Very well done! Thanks!
Incredible Work ✌️
just what I needed thanks matt
wow! Amazing video! So helpful!
Great vid, thx, & big thanks for the settings!☮️❤️🎥👊🏻
Great series! Thank you
Fantastic videos, Thank you so much!
Good advice and excellent video but I would advise everyone to work out their own customisation for their workflow. Matt's is a good start but I have me zebras and peaking on/off on the left scroll and down scroll respectively. I don't want anything on my scroll wheel that can accidentally change the image. I keep ISO on there but it's something you have to confirm. One thing I would suggest you put on your function menu is Picture Profile. I use 3 different profiles on the A7SIII and I often have to change them mid shoot. SLog3, S-Cinetone and OFF (for greenscreen work). Like Matt I have peaking and zebra levels on my Fn button but I don't bother with the on/off because they're on my scroll wheel. Instead I have gamma assist on/off as I like to check my SLog image occasionally uncorrected for highlights. I also have white balance in there - yeah I've got it assigned to C2 on top of the camera but if you can't see the top of the camera it's too easy to accidentally hit the record button so I keep it on the Function menu as well. One other thing to note - unlike Matt I don't really trust Sony's multi metering. You get used to it and can judge exposure using zebras etc but a handy little trick is to cycle through the display options and first after "all off" brings up the histogram. Although primarily designed for stills it's handy, especially in log mode as you can quickly check you haven't clipped your highlights and shadows using the histogram. Now if only Sony would give us shutter angle rather than speed all us video shooters would be grateful.
Thank you Matt your laid-back demeanor and knowledge is always a pleasure. I’ve been watching you for years.
I specifically do wildlife filming. Do you have a recommendations on Settings, frame rate, codec picture profile for wildlife on A7s3 curious minds want to know
Thanks Van
is it the same for a7c?
Downloaded and applied. Thank you 🙏
Thanks, very cool.
One suggestion/wish from someone who implemented your settings: it would be helpful to have a small graphic that shows which buttons have which functions. Maybe a business-card-sized printout we could carry around while we get used to the new functions.
It’s an extra step but you can save your M1-4 settings by dragging the folder onto your desktop. So if you format the card you can restore them without having to redo them every time. I keep some picture profile adjustments on them so it’s worth the fiddling about to save them.
👍👍
dude I love you thanks
Great Video! Thanks men!
Love this. I need to shoot more with my Sony so I can remember which custom button does what on the fly
Haha do it!
Mode 1, 2 and 3 aren't on the FX1? MR1 settings delete when we reformat card. How do we fix that Matt? Great vids. I'm in Jamaica on a shoot watching your tutorials. Your saving our ass. Ha!
This really helped me thank you!
5:58 just in case folks are wondering why the monitor and the viewfinder is still not toggling and still is acting auto , go into the settings first go to tool box then option 6 then put monitor into Manual then you can create the custom button that works for you,
Great video! Question?! How come I only have my menu 1? Don’t see an option for 2 or 3
Thanks Matt...✌Awesome
Thanks MJ
Great help! Thanks.
withe the sony update all this custom buttons in menu change, you need to make a new video
I just bought a sony a7siii and I'm worried that it generates a lot of moiré, aliasing in video and photo. I come from Fujifilm and this has never happened to me. Have you had this problem and/or have you found a solution? Thank you for sharing so much knowledge in your videos!
Very good! Thanks!
Thanks matt
Thanks for this Matt, I was wondering if you have these presets for an A1? Will you have them for the A74
This was a very useful video. Thank you!
Amazing video thank you
Love this video, wish you would do one for the fx3 specifically, as this is one as the button layouts is an area where the 2 are quite different. One missing button you suggest on the a7siii that isn’t available or in a different spot, well leaves me curious which way to go. Maybe when the fx30 comes out you could do that…
