The best tutorial ever. Contemplating switching from Canon to Sony and this video has me sold. You’re so detailed and easy to understand. Really enjoyed this. Thanks Jason
I'm with others, HOW do you only have 6K subscribers?!! These tips are amazing and actually meant for a beginner! It's so frustrating when you watch a 'beginner' tutorial and it's super advanced! I've learned so much from this. Thank you for creating this!!
Hi I don't have an FX3 but I imagine there would be a lot in common with the a7S III as they share the same sensor - where to find things in the the menus might be different though
Fantastic tutorial ill have to rewatch it a few times to memorize this all but you articulate the explanations very well and I love the level to detail to each topic. This will help me tons in professional career.
my man this tutorial is perfect. You explain everything crystal clear and approach various aspects, even the grading part. it's a lot for a camera tutorial. Keep going like this, we need you :)
please tell me worth to buy or should i buy this on this 2023 year end ,cause the price drop and a lot of good comment and really like this ! the one reason make me hesitate to buy it ,is it only 12.1mp ,should i buy it or wait the new a7s iv come out !?
Hello, i use the Rode wireless 2 mic's, my mic reading on my A7S3 was showing in the view finder as ch1 ch2, now for some reason it does not display anymore, i don't remember changing anything but the volume from 25 to like 1 other than that i have'nt changed anything, any suggestions.
Hey Jason first off I would like to say that I thank you and really appreciate this video, but I have a problem, my camera doesn't seem to record when on film, why is that and what do I need to do?
I have the A7SIII and I have an issue with filming in areas under shaded areas. Either I have to choose my background to be over exposed or my subject to be underexposed. I have a hard time finding a balance between the two. I've tried ND filters and no luck still. Or maybe I am using them wrong.
There is only so much dynamic range a camera can see - you just need to choose what is most important for the viewer to see (or bring in some lights to balance the exposure)
What a wonderful video this is. I am shocked that it just has 3k+ views. Not sure what more a content creator needs to do. Superb work mate keep going. I am a first time camera operator and your tutorial was way to understand. One suggestion, for non native speakers and people who are new to Sony it felt that you were a bit fast with all the features. I reduced your video speed to .75x and voila it was the best speed at which I could look at all the features and try them out on my Sony a7s3 at the same time
Hi Saksham - what a wonderful lovely comment to wake up to - thank you so much, I really appreciate it! :) Hope you enjoy the a7S III - it's an amazing video camera!
How do you illuminate your room like that? I love that your background is dark, but you are perfectly lit. My softboxes light up the entire room, making it impossible to have a dark background. What should I do?"
I only have SteadyShot options: Active, Standard and Off. I tried to change the file settings to get the third option with no success. The firmware is 2.11, and as I checked is the latest one. What is wrong with my camera?
I use this one amzn.to/3DoKTJw (affiliate link) a v90 SD card gives you access to (almost) every recording mode - I forget which ones need a CFExpress card - I can do everything I need to do with the SD card linked
Hey Jason, thank you very much for this video.. it is really helpful. I was wondering if you could provide some input on what kind of adapters are the best when it comes to using Nikon F mount lenses to Sony E mount for video
Great suggestion Subhajit - I have never done that I'm afraid thought I do use one of these to use my Canon lens on my Sony's: www.metabones.com/products/details/MB-EF-E-BT5
@@JasonRobertsVideo ive only ever set zebras at 94% from the FN button options on the back but when you say to set 44% or 55% to middle gray i get lost. I shoot run and gun and outside mostly so how would i set up slog exposure? I normally try to use the m.m and aim for 1.3-2.0 while also looking at the screen for help with gamma display on. Should i be using zebras as my main guide when out and about or the m.m meter (i how that can be random also) Ive just ordered a grey card from this video so i can try and learn. Im shooting an event next week for a friend and i really want to get the best results ✋
If you point the camera at the grey card and turn on zebras and set them to what middle grey would be for the picture profile your using you then adjust your exposure until you see zebras cover the grey card.
@@JasonRobertsVideo thanks for taking then time to reply. So if im outside just pull a grey card out and play with the exposure (iso, aperture ,ND) until middle gray starts to zebra at around 44% setting And this should get me in a great position for exposure? But as ill be doing a walk, hills , beach side ect the exposure wil change alot on the go , normally im looking at the M.M and adjusting with my ND .. sorry for all the questions im just trying to understand and get better. You can see from my channel the stuff i shoot
Yep exactly with the zebras and grey card - best for stable lighting. If your walking/vlogging outside then it's a lot harder - in that case you can just use your meter or just look at the screen - if you're using slog and the screen watch this: ruclips.net/video/AlAC8yOVvIc/видео.html
No worries :) I meant ND or VND, e.g. if you're filming yourself with a tripod you wouldn't be able to be altering an ND/VND at the same time as filming yourself - that's only a problem if you're doing a long take or there's crazy light changes
Normally you'd want to use gyro stabe in post and not have any turned on in camera because it might get weird results with "double stabilization" but you could experiment. Doesn't matter about the gimbal because the camera doesn't know it's on one.
Thanks. I suggest you create chapters
Yeah bro. Awesome vid but need those chapters !!! Lol

Incredible Jason! So helpful. Thank you

What a great video! Thanks Jason for your dedication!

thank you from Türkiye this video was very beneficial for me
You're welcome - thanks :)
Does the white balance setting matter when I’m using the S-Log3 setting you suggested? You mentioned it at around the 11 minute mark. Thanks!
Yes it does - S-Log3 is not RAW so you're white balance can't be set after recording (you can of course color correct/grade)
@@JasonRobertsVideo thank you!
Please add chapters if you can! I know ill be coming back to this and being able to skip around easily would be much appreciated

Which memory card do you recommend? Why should we use cf express A compared to SDHC?

I set the file format to xavc s 4k as you but 120 p and 60
p options did not appear on rec frame rate menu, what the problem
You might need to change PAL/NTSC setting
dood, youre the best.

Hi there! My camera aperture only goes to 2.8 what ISO should I adjusted to to make it over expose?
Hi :) Depends on the amount of light in the scene you are filming.

You're so welcome Ibrahim :)
Why would you use auto ISO outdoors? ND filters would be the better suggestion.
Depends how much the light is changing and whether or not you wanted to keep changing ND filter strength.
@@JasonRobertsVideo true, but even a good VND would solve that. I enjoyed the video by the way.

How to download Sony Luts… !?
Is the gyro data available in all ibis modes like std , active and off ? And if you use gimble why isn’t the gyro data avilable?

That's good to know, not sure if adding gyro stabe on top of in-camera stabe would be a good idea or not.
What exposure value should I expose to in Slog3?
I cover that in this vid: ruclips.net/video/JAoN5nzsYAE/видео.html
Iam not even halfway,my brain is about to explode ! Anyway great job :)
Haha - you can do it!! :) Thanks! :)
Thanks for this
No problem - hope it helps :)
why does mine only have 50,25 and 100 fps options ???? i’m so confused
I think it depends if your camera is set to PAL or NTSC modes
This is the best resource!
Someone create chapters😢
Thanks!
