My recommendation is to get both if you love the Layton DNA. I think they smell surprisingly similar despite the addition of a few darker notes in Exclusif. Of course, the regular Layton is more versatile for more seasons but I really love both and can't get enough of them.

Sebastian's point about the two being the "same experience" while wearing, is the nail right on the head. I personally enjoy the slightly darker/oudier drydown of Exclusif and how is smells a bit more niche quality and nuanced. But that's almost entirely based on me putting my nose to skin after they've both dried down. Wearing either one of these gives me the same "experience" and the wafts I catch off myself are barely distinguishable. If I could only pick one, it'd be Exclusif bcs I could feel a little more like a frag snob, but you cannot go wrong. The hype is real!

Own both. They will last forever Overspraying can ruin the experience and compliment factor in my opinion. I feel they are more different than alike. They really added so many little more elements to tje exclusif. Both smell wonderful. Layton exclusif shines with the coffee note. Keep up the interesting comparisons videoz. 👍

Exclusif for bigger spaces or outings. Layton for smaller spaces or in door. All light on the trigger. I usually go with 2 sprays of exclusif n 2 sprays of molecule 01. A guy complimented me 30 mins after I had walked into a room and said he could smell me when he walked in. This was in a Chicago winter.

I am 19 as well and a young niche lover, so personally I enjoy the exclusif way more because of the deeper and more complex DNA but I have to say if you are looking for the compliments go with the original way more safe. If you really want to get great attention just buy Carlisle and go for 8 sprays the whole classroom will smell you. (Of course I didn’t do that ;)

Exclusif is definitely a quality fragrance. I love how the oud is mixed in. However... I feel like it doesn't really blend together. Vanilla/Sweet ouds may not be the best combination. So as great as it is, I feel like it has some internal conflict. But that can be artistic as well.

  • @PODBOOM

I have been watching a ton of your videos lately, and everyone across the board really but I especially find my tastes to align more with yours and also with CurlyScents(?) the most, so far. I have four people who are my 'favorite' to watch for fragrance related content, but your input always meets my nose very well!
I have been in love with the packaging of PdM, alone, and with your videos as a guide I grabbed a bunch of decants from DecantX - So far I've picked up 10 Mils of Pegasus, Oajan, Sedley, and Layton, and I have also grabbed 5 Mils of Layton Exclusif and Habdan. - I personally was not a fan of Pegasus nor Layton, but that isn't to say I didn't enjoy the scents - both the initial impression and the dried down smell of both were nice, but I found them both to be more soft/feminine to my nose. It smells powerful, but in a very gentle way.... Layton Exclusif, however, smells almost nothing like the original and it completely blew my mind. It makes me feel like I'm carrying the deep-woods/forrest around with me with all of the woody notes, and there's a perfect touch of smokiness blended in. The Exclusif is definitely a more masculine/aggressive smell, and one I think that would fit more for older guys. - Cheers, and thank you for all of the great videos/information!!

Agree with Seb. If you feel uncomfortable wearing either one then don’t wear it. Layton is an extremely sophisticated and expensive scent. And it could be perceived as fit for more mature types. Want to feel fun then go with Comme Des Garçons Green or Loewe Man 001.

I had to take the same decision. Both are beautiful! I love exclussif, it's more complex and maybe interesting but it loses the versatility of the original. So, in my opinion the original is better if you want to use it often and everywhere. The exclussif is more on the "niche" side but not versatile at all and if you care about the others, it has some notes that may be overwhelming for some. I got the original and i love it! Great video!

I have a Layton 125 ml and bought the exclusif in a 75 ml just to get the taste of the exclusif given the fact that the exclusif is not as versatile compared to its younger brother and more suited for formal situations.

For the kid, I would advise he get neither one of these for school/ office use. Layton is ideal for dates. Layton Exclusif is ideal for formal events. I would suggest one of their lighter frags such as Greenley, Sedley, Percival, and Pegasus for everyday use. I guess Layton is better between the two, but I don't see it as a school / office scent.

Furthermore i would wait till september to wear it, Although Layton is still my favorite niche fragrance (just ordered a backup bottle) , It's too intensive to wear in high heat . To distinguish yourself as y young guy with this scent or something like aqua di parma colonia i think it's very good. Because ...most of his peers will probably wear One Million from Paco Rabanne which mostly also pimps wear. ... :)

I think Layton is the better alternative for this guy - being 19, I think Exclusif is at least a decade beyond.
To me, the two are completely different. The animalic qualities make Exclusif rather dirty and a tad raunchy - Layton just says “hey”, while Exclusif insists “we’re gonna f**k.”
For someone who’s 19 and trying to figure out life, go with the more easygoing option.

One can't choose their body's natural smell (given that you shower and maintain a proper hygiene), but you can choose the type of fragrance you wear. so you saying that in a closed space you have to put up with people's smell so they have to put up with you perfume is a lack of respect in my opinion. That's why the so called office fragrances have a non offensive smell.

I'm a 40-year-old man. Exclusif is a little too dirty for me, while OG Layton is my No. 1 fragrance. It performs amazingly on me. I have someone compliment me pretty much every time I wear it.
I wore it to my old workplace one day and one lady walks through the door, probably 10 feet away and immediately says "You smell GOOD!" One of the others quckly says, "He DOES smell good, doesn't he?"
A couple days ago I was standing in the grocery store line, there was an older woman behind me and then a younger woman came up behind her. The older woman says, oh, that counter just opened up if you want to take it. The younger one says, "Oh, I'm just standing here to smell him. She was several feet away. She pulls her mask down (it projects enough to still be able to smell it through a mask), leans forward a bit. She inhales and exhales and says, "Oh yeah." and then walks away. lol

@@nawafalsuqairy2812 I think I used like 4 or 5. I've toned it down to like 2 since then. Thought maybe it was too strong. I dunno. Maybe I should go big, lol.

Love your channel and have been listening for years. I have you to thank for most of my perfume journey. I also just wanted suggest that you do a video on your favorite perfumes from the house of Boadicea The Victoriou.

      Wow, thank you!
In regards to Boadicea tough brand for me as there's so many and no representation where I live but perhaps in the near future. But I do discuss in these two videos:

I wear Layton, I do like them both but Layton just shades it. Its so close, maybe next time I could go for the exclusif.

I prefer the original layton over the exclusif. Something in exclusif don't go well with my skin.

Layton Exclusif is my preferred version, but Layton is more versatile for me living in the desert.

I always get a warm apple pie note when I smell them.

Weird wonder if I had something wonky with the bottle of layton I used to have but traded for something better(for me) people say it has apple and is like a boss bottled niche version, but I got nothing like that. Layton was nothing but cardamom and woody notes(iso e super) and vanilla, i dont get apple at all lol, just a large dose of cardamom 🤷‍♂️

Sebastian please let me know. Is there a vetiver out there that smells some what like the vetiver of the 70’s and 80’s Guerlain’s vetiver. This fragrance was awesome before the reformulation. I’ve tried some but there are so many. one that smells great but not nearly the same is Eight & Bob Nuit de Megeve.

Dior Vetiver? I don't remember the 70s and 80s Guerlain Vetiver sadly. It's been so long since I smelled that version! :(
Personally if you have a budget I'd buy samples of a lot of vetiver fragrances to test to see what might come close?
