  • Having heat & sun loving perennials in My Carolina Garden is essential in Southeastern North Carolina! Summers are long, and the sun is intense! Join me on my Summer 2023 garden tour where I show you my full sun perennial gardens filled with flowers like Canna Lilies, Blanket Flowers and a variety of Coneflowers.
    North Carolina gardening can be a challenge at times, particularly here on the coast as we learn to grow in sandy soil, and high coastal winds. I'd like to share with you by perennials for coastal gardens though, and show you what I have success with here.
    My name is Nicole, and stick with me if you'd like to watch how My Carolina gardens change and expand!

    Hi Nicole, i’ Playing catch-up on your videos, watching from Barbados and like you my garden is full sun except for a small east facing section, getting lots of ideas which plants I can use. Hopefully one day my garden will look even half as beautiful as yours. Enjoyed this video as always.

    I’m so glad you mentioned pest control at the end. I moved into Zone 8a a year and a half ago, so your videos are very a helpful learning tool to me! I not only wanted to ask you about pest control, but also ask if you about watering (by hand or irrigation). Thank you for sharing your knowledge!

    • @mycarolinagarden
      @mycarolinagarden  Год назад

      Hi there! Yes, my two biggest pests are Japanese Beetles and Aphids. UGH! Aphids have been particularly annoying on my Hibiscus and Crape Myrtle trees. I have tried things like Neem oil and dawn dish soap and water, as well as just hosing down the plants when I see issues with Aphids. All of those have worked; the trick for those bugs is to catch them before they fully infest.
      As for the beetles, I use Seven dust to treat and that also works for me. Of course I'll also catch them and squish them if there aren't many 😅
      Sadly I don't have irrigation, but wish I did!

    Do you bring your boughganvillia (sp) inside during the winter? Also I love your beautiful garden spaces.

    • @mycarolinagarden
      @mycarolinagarden  Год назад +1

      Thank you so much! This is my first year having it, but I do plan to bring it inside for winter. It's said to be hardy in zones 9-11, and I'm in 8A, so I won't chance it this year. Next year though, when I feel the roots are more established (and I'm more lazy 😁) I'll likely leave it out, covered with a frost blanket and see what happens.

    Do your tiger lilies have black seeds on them and can you plant those seeds for more plants?

    • @mycarolinagarden
      @mycarolinagarden  3 месяца назад

      Yes and yes! I don't take the seeds off, personally, but they drop all over and make babies on their own 😁

    How do you shape your crepe myrtels???? when they pop up?

    • @mycarolinagarden
      @mycarolinagarden  Год назад

      I let them be for the first couple of years after I get a new baby, then I trim off the limbs I don't want in the early spring. I have a mix of a couple that I trimmed to have one main trunk, and another with multiple large trunks growing vertically. I also always cut off the little "suckers" (new growth at the base, but still attached to the trunk) all throughout the year. Hope this helps!
