    Just wanted to say thank you so much, I've been learning how to rock hound from you two. Not many good videos on youtube that actually get right in the action and do a concise job of explaining what your seeing, but you do a wonderful job thank you so much. All I have to say is please make more videos, and please look into filming in HD at the very least 720p, so much is lost in the image quality. Thank you again!

      Thanks for a wonderful comment Recluse. It's our pleasure sharing our videos with you. The cameras we use are all in the highest HD quality, but my problem is I think my editing program. Been trying to resolve this issue and hopefully will get to the core of the problem soon. Thanks for watching and wishing you all the very best.

    Hi Joy, You should do ok at the public fossicking area especially if you walk a few hundred meters up or down the stream. Look for pockets of black spinel behind boulders and dig down around these. Where we were was in a private property where there's unfortunately no public access. Best of luck on your hunt.

    The patch was in the floor of the open cut a dip thay had missed by fluke chance I found it , but the best stone I got was from the public area [dug out] 14ct flawless blue on blue thought it was blue glass the colour was sooo intense never seen anything like it anywhere most of it is quite small with anything over 5ct uncommon try the bottom of the gullys running down of the main mountain or very large tree stumps can be very suprising ,simmiler and bigger stone can be found at lava plains qld

      +Umpie Thanks for watching Umpie. It's difficult to give you an exact figure as there are a few factors involve in determining the value of sapphires. Below is a link that might give some answers to your question. All the best, Liz

    Hi Liz
    My husband and I are going to the are this weekend and were going to the public fossicking are near Crookwell. Would love to have details of where you were. We have not fossicked solo before but are up for the challenge. We did go to Rubyvale, Qld and did go to miners area where they show you their mine and you get to fossick their rubbish under their direction. it was fun.

    Have you ever tried UV light (short and long wave) for gemstone prospecting at night? Some gems will show fluorescence under UV light.

    Nice one. Posted any vids here showing off your stones? I wouldn't mind seeing some of these beauties you found. I never spent much time at the public area - assumed it was worked out. Never heard of anyone finding saphs up that way, very interesting though. Where, Undara (but that's all NP right?) or maybe Mt. Surprise - but that's only Topaz, Aquamarine, and Smokey Quartz....? I just did bit of searching on the web but nothing so far re sapphires.

    We've scratch around Black Springs b4 and found out that it's too much hard work. Grabben Gullen is definitely my favourite sapphire hunting ground. Hope you'll get the chance to go to GG. Good luck and Happy Hunting. All the best, Liz

    • @LizKreate
      @LizKreate  6 лет назад

      Hi Michelle, The closest to you that I know of would be the a place called "Sapphire Bend" at the Vulcan State Forrest near Oberon. Just google it up for a more detailed info on how and where it is. Good luck and happy hunting. Cheers, Liz

  • @DelNardRowen

    30 cutters! Whoa! Nice. Did you find them digging up near Sapphire Bend Rd or down in the stream? I never had much luck at Black Springs, even though I did spend a LOT of time and hard work looking. Still, I enjoyed every moment! These days I live closer to the Central Qld gem fields and have a soft spot for Glen Alva

    Wow, Australia seems to be rich in gold and gemstones. I know you have Lighting ridge and coobeer peddy for opal and then you had one of the richest diamond mines in the world. A lot of the fancy color diamonds came from there. Then you have sapphire, topaz, peridot, zircon, garnet and no telling what other kinds of gems, not to mention gold.
    We have a lot of gems, gold, silver and all here in the states as well, but not as much public lands to prospect. Keep up the good work. Happy Hunting.

    • @LizKreate
      @LizKreate  9 лет назад

      thomas101834 Hi Thomas, I'm so thankful that we have so much areas where the general public can prospect......for now. It's slowly getting less and less areas open to the public due to a lot of people/prospectors not doing the right thing. :-( Cheers, Liz

    • @LizKreate

      No. This is a free area open to the public. Thanks for watching. Cheers, Liz

  • @LizKreate
    @LizKreate  11 лет назад

    Generally, you won't find any untreated/unheated Sapphires like these for under $500 per carat. Fine untreated/unheated Sapphires over 5 carats can cost upwards of $1000 plus per carat.

  • @DelNardRowen
    @DelNardRowen 11 лет назад

    Not really, closest for you is probably down around Inverell nsw or north to central qld gemfields.

  • @nasokas

    damn this looks so easy.. or just it looks so?

    • @LizKreate
      @LizKreate  10 лет назад

      Looks can certainly be deceiving. With practice, the task becomes easier as you get to know which of the gravels contain the riches material and one tends to then concentrate only on these gravels instead of shifting huge amounts of overburden for little return. Thanks for watching and commenting. Cheers, Liz

    Don't give up on black springs , yes there very very patchy took me three years before I got my first patch over 30 cutters per sieve quality of stone is far beyond that of other australian sapphire true blue on blue stone grabben gullens material is like what you get around the porters retreat area lots of big bombs heaps of zircon spinel ect not much of use and a lot of parti stone only the odd decent stone . The deposit at black springs is much larger than most think try DIGS on d,p,i website

      @LizKreate  10 лет назад

      It certainly has been getting a bit of a hammering but there's still plenty of good stones for those who are prepared to walk a distance from the bridge. Thanks for the comment Riley. Cheers, Liz

      Liz Kreate I thought the land beyond the general bridge area was private property?

    • @LizKreate
      @LizKreate  10 лет назад +1

      ausriley567
      Both sides of the bridge is private property, but the land owner doesn't mind fossickers walking up and down the stream so long as they don't make a mess of the stream edges. Fill in all your holes and you'll be ok.

      Hello I am a beginner gemstone hunter, could you please DM me the spot location in this video, I have been to oberon, found some small blue sapphires but no where near the size in this video. The other day I went to Grabben Gullen creek and the place had been absolutely thrashed, the public fossicking area was ruined.
      If you would like to tell me the spot just reply and i will send details.
      Thankyou!!
