I too agree: greate video and selection of games, but I do not consider all of them beat em ups. Game genres, like genres for movies, books, etc, are not a precise thing, since a lot of games are always mixing genres, or creating new limits between genres, or even creating new genres. Some games on the list, like Batman and Robin, have platform segments, shot 'em up segments, etc, but the main gameplay is more like "Run N Gun" genre, I think. Sunsoft Batman for me is more like an "Action Platformer", and so On. I think that most of the time I consider Beat em Up games the ones that are closer to either Double Dragon esque (you move left, rigth, up, down, can jump or not, and the main focus is short range attacks), or like Alteread Beast (you move left or rigth, can jump or not, and the focus of the gameplay is short range attacks, with or without some platform segments on specific moments). So, in general, I consither this more like a selection of action games. A nice list indeed.
@@amaweksIIIindeed, in "real" beat 'em ups, you should be able to move in X- and Y-axis. And the Z-axis would be jump. Just because the character beat someone doesn't mean it's a beat 'em up, right?
@@greensun1334 Back in the 80's, people, and magazines, call a "beat'em up" games where you punch and kick the foes, like kung fu master or games alike, that does not have Y movement besides jump, gales like double dragon/renegade, and evem vs fighting games. Final fight changed that, helping consolidating the genre, and street fighter II consolidates the VS Fighting as a separated genre. But it hapens that games like "ninja warriors" where still being caled beat em ups. So to me, a beat em up is a game like Final Fight or alike that, and like "The Ninja Warriors Again" too. But not every X move only game fits that, on Ninja Warriors example you cave combos, specials, and other moves just like Final Fight, only that you do not move on Y axxis in the ground. Like I've said, thats not a "exact science", but we can see similarities. Anyway, in the end the fun is wat matters most ;)
There is another one called Water Margin. I think you need to be able to walk up or down to count as a beat em up though so I would consider some of these as beat em ups.
The 16bit- and arcade aera was by far the most interesting time in video gaming. You mixed in some action platformers (Altered Beast, Splatterhouse 2) but that's okay. To me, a "real" beat 'em up/brawler should have left/right and up/down movement.

Great video. I LOVE beatemups.
Streets of Rage II - The BEST beat'em up game for Megadrive ever!
Streets of rage is just in a league of it's own
..the very best.
You knew that's why you saved it for the last
From my point of view, many games that appear here are not beat em up, but platforms. In one way or another, a great job

Mazin Saga missing
Great game too!

Yes, there are indeed some action platformers and running guns found in this list.
Great video, i love beat em ups

Mega Drive foi inconsolável mais importante da minha vida. Também tenho um carinho enorme
where the fck is Cutthroat Island
Power Rangers the Movie.
12:26 Oh I had played this game A LOT.
I keep looking at the filters on them.
I like the part where they list the games
half of thtese are platformers, not beat em ups. beat em ups have the XYZ axes, not just XY. nice vid
That is not a hard-and-fast rule. Certainly a beat-em-up with no third axis and no platforming isn't a platformer.
I would not consider alot of these beatem ups at all

Names of the games?
The game titles are at the bottom of each clip
