In this video I was asked by Weaver leather to create a "barbecue apron" so I went to my notebook and sketched up a few ideas. The idea of steel shoulder hooks to secure the leather apron kept coming back to me. It seemed like the most secure place to hang the tools! Although this might seem like a bit of a joke, I consider the first iteration of a more serious idea and I will keep exploring it. Thank you for watching this leather apron project video. I hope this video will inspire you to pick up some Weaver leather products and supplies and make your own barbecue apron. Thank you Weaver!

Many great ideas start out as a joke many people think this is a complete joke.. but it’s only a joke about the barbecue utensils ...I’m 100% serious about the metal shoulder hook I’m gonna explore this idea more: For a practical shop apron and also for a more refined barbecue application. Many people wanted to see the video on the barbecue I will add the link in the comment

These guys are just jealous of that great selection of tube meats 🌭
D.T. Baker awesome 👏🏻

A leather stripe to cover the metal shoulder for more comfort maybe is a good idea. Thanks for sharing Jimmy
lol love it!
also: slick tip using pliers like a push stick!
Haha hot steel 🤣🤣🙏🏼👊🏼
Fancy seeing you here again.... This is getting old Tony 😁
Yeah, slick until you run that hardened steel into the saw blade. Then again, maybe it's like a patternmaker using ice picks to push small stuff through a bench saw - the risk of damaging the tooling is worth it.
@@Ricopolico Better to ruin a saw blade than your fingers 😂
@@jakedevries1455 Right? like why dont these two colab to make each other some stuff for each others shop....or maybe just an overly complicated sausage maker...lol
Replace the spatulas with knives - from grilling to killing - the ultimate apron!
‘Hot Sauce Pockets’ is a GREAT band name...
I’m hearing the baby troll voice complaining this design wouldn’t work for some women and men with beer guts!
Mi con hambre....
empezar así.
2:11 I always think he will weld stuff to the table.
Welding stuff to the table is a power move
Worse is when your electrode sticks and you lift it off the table while holding it with your left hand. HELLO!!!
You didn't hand forge the BBQ tools? Somebody is getting lazy!
Someone: Let’s make a BBQ apron.
Jimmy: OK, get me my welder and torch.
Imagine you host a bbq and a rival dad shows up wearing this. 💪
A "rival dad." That's something only dad's know about.
@@xenonram Haha
Lol rival dad. That's perfect.
Looks like it should have a harmonica mounted on it for fireside entertainment. 🤣
It does now. Thank you!
Gracias Maestro...!! 🙏
As a dude favoring functionality whenever possible, this is amazing!
It also discourages people from over zealous hugging!!
Awesome build dude!!
And it stops random people from going over to the grill, picking up a utensil, and screwing with the meats.
I want see More proyects with the sewing machine!!
This.
That walking foot sewing machine is awesome.
Only Jimmy would find a way to incorporate welding into an apron build! 😄 You're the man!
If the belt sits on the hips right, most of the weight of the apron will be supported there (like a rucksack hip belt). The metal isn't load bearing, it's to stop the top edge rolling down when the utensils are attached.
@@richbuilds_com chill and relax.no need to analyse.
Hey jimmy... you give inspiration to Diresta us!!!
Almost forgot..... 😘 love you
143 👊🏼🙏🏼
Those pockets for sauce also look like the perfect size for a tall boy can whilst grilling away.
All you need is a dad joke message printed on it like"Kiss the cook" or "Beer powered love machine" and I'll buy two.
That was real belt and braces stuff. Glue, sewing machine AND rivets. Such a dependable craftsman. I always find myself thinking "oh I hope he does..." and then he does.
The utensil holder seems dangerous, just dont go wangjangling them around like tassel pasties and you should be ok.😂
Hahaha this is just the sort of absurd utility I strive for. 👍👍
When man and grill become ONE. Hilariously practical!
How is the fit on the shoulders? It looks uncomfortable. Great idea tho...
I thought the same! 👍🏻
It's too wide. They need to be closer to the neck. It's Jimmy's style though. No measuring, no planning, no fit-ups... Just start putting the idea in your head into a prototype. Not my cup of tea, but it's only a prototype.
Everyone is commenting on the video, and I'm over here like "Roomba Roomba Roomba". Is this subliminal advertising from Jimmy?
I picture jimmy as someone that can enjoy his barbecue
Its good to see I'm not the only one thats lost my mind during this Covid lockdown. Apparently Adam Savage was inspired by this too, but I like yours better. Stay well.
I didn't realize Sharper Image was still around.
Dads across the country: “I’ll take 3”
Heck, I’d buy one! But it wouldn’t fit cause I’m on the XXXL size. So, making one of my own, though not as nice with work.
Next episode: tactical loincloth, or this one, if you're brave enough.
This is your worst idea ever. Sorry, just being honest. Fun to watch as always though!
Its like the biggest dad flex ever. He be shootin finger guns all day in this. Boss apron, love it 👌
Don't judge before realizing this apron has more uses beyond BBQing
Thank you. The only one.
Riveting. Now I’m hungry and laughing.
I love it
I only issue I saw is, that you forgot to give the tongs two test clicks before using them. We must maintain a balance in the Grilling world. By the way, great video.
So true. Clack clack.
BREAKING NEWS: Diresta launches new career as a prop comedian. ;-)
you haven’t been paying attention. I became a fanboy when I saw the tiny hands push sticks.
Those wire shoulder hooks are painful to look at. A bit of padding is in the future I'll wager. Clever build, though. Take an IV stand and make a BBQ tool caddy, now you'd have something.
My brain ten seconds into this video: BBQ apron with basting brush nipple tassels
One of those pockets would have a different kind of sauce for me. LOL
Put large soldering arms on them, so you've got an extra pair of hands in the shop...
9:27 The bbq sauce test fit 😂👌
Love it
I was wondering what the pockets were all about.
Will you make a video about the giant razor you have at 4:00?
Jimmy not wearing shoes made me laugh harder than I should of 👏🙌💃
I like your own apron, Jimmy.👍🏼👍🏼
Jimmy is ready to inflict pain to the meat
Suas invenções são geniais muito bacana gostei
Some padding for the shoulder hooks and a way to incorporate a towel or puppy pad behind where the utensils go so your leather doesn't get soaked with grease and carbon from the utensils over time and you should be good to go. :-)
Proof that not all ideas are good ideas.
Keep up the Amazing work Jemmy
Love from Egypt
Nice build! But I can't believe the blasphemy of using charcoal lighter fluid to start your fire! You must really enjoy that petroleum flavoring it adds to your meat. Ugh. ;-)
:-D Great job like always. Best regards frome Germany Nico from Nico's Projects
Jimmy, the only addition I would've made is a bottle opener, (with a padded handle to stop any calluses) approx 6" to 8" long, hung by a strap, maybe between the hips so as to not take up precious room, long enough to fit in a pocket or swung free! Just a thought
Now that's what I need a custom handcrafted leather DiResta Grill Apron. Perfect size sauce pockets too!
Hillariously practical, in the boldest way possible. I love your stuff man!
A well executed dumb idea...
Al Bundy line of BBQ wear
It looks like the beginning of a One man Band outfit. Jimmy, have a look at the metal harness that marchingband drummers use. It´s quite a similar thing to what you are going for. Wider metal straps so it doesn´t dig into yr shoulders, and then a strong metal "breastshield" to hang drums from. Or when Jimmy goes for it, a small bandsaw can dangle from that :=)
I am Brazilian, I live in Rio de Janeiro, I really admire your creativity, I work with visual and advertising communication, doing a little of everything ... Never laugh so much with your work, like the one presented here. If I arrive with that apron to have a barbecue
I'll be remembering for the rest of my life!
If one day you come to Brazil, get in touch to take you to know RIO DE Janeiro and eat one of the best barbecue in the world.
Success for you.
This will take DiResta summer camp classes to a whole new level! (once these crazy times pass) Awesome concept and execution Jimmy! Love it
You make! You make me hungry too! Nice display of what the weaver products can do also! I've thought about getting the press, and you showed how useful it can be, maybe some day.
This is called creative! Thank you Jimmy and Bon appetit!
simply “the best”
Just because you can, does not mean you should. First time I've had to wonder why I am watching a Diresta video? Keep up the good work.....even if it is questionable work.:-)
Oh nice, you got back your standard normal sized alumina cups; I really couldn't understand why you were wasting a 12 ceramic by furick and a bunch of argon to weld some iron in some older videos🤷🏻♂️
Let me just get the tools ready to make my leather apron. Mig welder? Check! Arbor press? Check! Die grinder? Check! Comically large razor blade? Check!
What? No Diresta custom grill knife w/ serrated, fine cut, and razor blades? I'm crushed! Nice job Jimmy! Another item I will now pine over until I get one!
Really cool apron! I don't know what it was, but at 6:56 i just subconsciously wanted to stop watching the video. Maybe you know why 🤣🤣🤣
Too Fun! Nice sewing machine and stitching but I still prefer the smell of Barge Cement in the afternoon. Thanks Mr. D, practical and a hoot at the same time! Looking forward to your webinar on design!!
Hey @jimmydiresta, where did you get those advanced level BBQ tongs? The ones that apparently don't need 2 test clicks before first use, and again every few minutes? Never seen any like that before.
Jimmy you are lucky because you don’t change waist size, I do, and the bbq helps in this transformation, so the apron not being adjustable, if it was mine, should have been changed continuosly 😅
Salt and pepper shaker.
I'll go eat something
Burguer for me please!!
needs a warning sign "no hugs while I am grilling unless you wear safety glasses"
My friend, you totally know how to make the mundane extraordinary. I see you adding padding to the shoulders at some point. That leather sewing machine is killer. Do you still have the Juki one from the work pants video?
Oh I want you to bring that in March. You'll be the cook👌
Only thing I’d change would be to have a wider shoulder hook. I think after a massive BBQ the 3/8” rods may start to get a bit uncomfortable.
Very cool brother. I dig it!! Also people who don't know how to grill always piss and moan about lighter fluid. When you let it burn it goes away also nobody can see he had 20 pounds of charcoal to burn down.. and yes I know there is other ways to light it but if you wait it doesn't have any effect. If you put the food on to early then it does but Jimmy isn't a kid he gets it.

Pero donde se caiga con eso, se hace pelota todo el pecho , jajaja.
@@TheGabry54 😂😂😂😂pero porque se va a caer...?! Jajaja igual es cierto 😂😂
I am going to want the first Diresta made baseball mitt. I'm calling it now Jimmy will make one. Jimmy, your leatherworking skills are quite impressive.
I’m very disappointed you didn’t check the tongs before you used them. You always have to click the tongs together.
Adam Savage makes a cool shop apron. You make a cool BBQ/Shop apron.....It's Maker Apron Season. I like it!
Perfect and hilarious. A pocket for lighter fluid and fireproof gloves maybe a backpack for briquets ?
Version 2 will have the BBQ attached to the apron too.
... one of the weakest, forced, ridiculous things I've ever seen - but KEEP GRILLING!
If Jimmy wears Birkenstock’s, then I guess I can.....wait, did you make those shoes????
is there something this man can not do ?!?
Been following him for years even during the TV show and his nephew is amazing aswell.
I want to learn this mans skills.
i mean...i almost want to be mad because he has All the tools....but i guess that's the perks of being a life long maker..Keep rockin dude!
Love this project. What a great b-day present for me a live webinar from Jimmy Diresta 8/27/2020.
So damn creative. How long before the metal hangers start to bother your shoulders? Maybe some leather cushioning?? Great vid.
Jimmy, I love all your videos and have been watching them for years but the utensils swinging from the top of the apron, did you lose a bet?
Cool creation, although I thought one of those pockets would hold a brew. Just don't BBQ in a thunderstorm in that lightning rod.
Different but nicely done, enjoy the summer.
Maybe some padding on the shoulder harness if you're gonna do some marathon barbecuing.
Maybe wider straps instead of wire, like 1" wide?
go buy a charcoal chimney. You'll never want to use lighter fluid again. Heck, you're a maker- make one.
Love it!! Looks like u could b the pit boss on mad max!! My grandmother used to sew barefoot said it gave her a better feel another great vid!!
One man facility
Türkiye den takip ediyorum çok yeteneklisin saygı duyuyorum
“Crap, I forgot a place for utensils when I built the BBQ”
All you need now is a harmonica some drums, some symbols in a little monkey on your shoulder to collect the money.!!!!🤣🤣🤣
I love your videos and I have watched a lot of them. This is not an end product I like. Sorry the video is entertaining but I would not want one of these.
LOVE all the comments!!!! Nice creative way to have u tools right with u on hand!!!!
