Bittersweet Shoegaze Chords

  • A shoegaze chord progression that I've been sitting on for a while. If you follow me on Instagram, you might have seen this one in one of my stories. It's a fun progression to jam over top of - especially while doing melodies with the glide strumming / picking technique. The bittersweet part of this progression comes from the minor iv chord. Don't really hear that one too much in shoegaze but I think it sounds really good here. Enjoy!

    and this is why jazzmasters excel at emo and emo-adjacent music

    • @tylerparkermusic
      @tylerparkermusic Год назад

      Whys that? Don’t just say “the tone” be specific

    • @UnderTheZero
      @UnderTheZero Год назад +28

      @@tylerparkermusic well the tone is actually important, but sure I'll entertain you. There's a smidge of overtone noise that normal single coils don't have in a jazzmaster(makes them good for punk and shoegaze) and there is also something specific to the bridge that gives it a better warble than the strat vibratos.
      Now to do the opposite of what you said, jazzmasters are generally warmer in tone and really what makes them characteristically unique is the pickups. They aren't really true p90s, and if you want to be real about it, putting jazzmasters pickups on any other guitar will probably get you the same results. Most guitars are just characterized by their pickups. So sure, the tone shit might be a farce, but the jazzmasters pickups are the reason why they're good for emo and emo adjacent music.
      Now you can go a step further and just make whatever music with whatever guitar you want, because eventually and theoretically and hypothetically you can get the same sound with enough processing and tweaking on other gear that it doesn't really fucking matter and I made you read all this for the bit. You're welcome.

      @@UnderTheZero what about jaguar vs jazzmaster, what’s your take on the jag compared to jazzmaster

    • @UnderTheZero
      @UnderTheZero Год назад +4

      @@tylerparkermusic I think they're similar, and the main difference is the electronics and "brightness" of the pickups. It's really up to preference. Get the jag if you want really bright leads, get the jazzmaster if you want really warm rhythms

      @@lavenderandred_ The easiest way to differentiate between a jazz and a jag is to look at the pickups. Jazzmasters have huge soapbar pickups while Jaguars have thinner ones.

      Ever since I found blackgaze and DSBM I can't really get back into emo except for a small majority of bands (Man I Fell in Love With, Eldritch Annissette, 125, Rue Montmartre, etc), alot of the new stuff just sound so lame and juvenille, no idea what the appeal of weedmo is except for it being juvenille.
