- Hannah was a new client horse who was having trouble standing still. In this video I explain how to go about teaching a horse to stand, and also enjoy a nice ride with my new friend Hannah. Hannah is a Friesian Arabian cross bred mare who is very beautiful and fun to see work!
Friesian Arabian cross sounds like a beautiful, intelligent combo
Hannah is very beautiful! Look forward to seeing you train this lovely lady, Bekah!
Beautiful horse right there!!!
I think so too!
Hannah is beautiful
SHE IS A BEAUTIFUL HORSE ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
You're welcome 😊 🙏 🤗
She is such a beautiful horse, the cross turned out just right❤❤❤❤
she's a beauty
Beautiful horse and a good trainer!!!
Hanna is a beauty! It’s great to see you work with her, that your techniques work with Arabian blood as well as the gaited breeds. (Note: city slicker that knows nothing)
she sure is pretty
She is gorgeous. X
It would be great to see an update with baby Happy.
Great job Bekah. Thank you for explaining how you assess improvements that are needed. Hannah is a beautiful horse and after your tune-up, she will be a great ride for her owner.
I feel like you are doing a good job Becca and I have faith you will get this horse where she needs to for your client. 👍💯❤️🙏🐴
You got it! Thanka for the video!
Hannah's a lovely looking horse. But, have you ever wondered if it might be the 'Arab' part of her that won't stand still? The reason I say this is because I watch a RUclips channel called Fresian Horses from the Netherlands and the horses they have there are beautiful and have lovely temperaments. Just a thought, Rebekah. 😊
Very well could be even so i was hired to teach her to stand still so despite her breeding i had to complete that and thankfully i succeeded!
I watched that channel too and those foals are trained from just weeks old to stand still.
@susankimes9862 Training, is training. I don't believe you should automatically allow a breed's characteristics to dictate, that it get away with poor or bad behavior. All horses need to be trained to STAND STILL while being mounted, and not to dash off, ASAP. It is up to the trainer and owner(s) to see to it. Like not letting your dog jump on people at the door! 😮
@RanchingWithRebekah You did well getting Hannah to stand still in her training. 👏
Very nice ❤
Fresian gaited! NO! Beautiful mare, job well done, keep up the good work...❤
Informative video
It’s been said a couple of times…..but, she’s been mouthing the bit the whole video. She is a beauty. Love your utube
❤❤ Good luck with pretty Hannah.😊
When she takes steps when you mount, her stance may have been too narrow to balance your weight. Check that before you mount. Her front hooves are touching at times, then your weight on her side throws her off. Shaking the horn of the saddle a bit side to side can create a wider stance to ready for mounting. Her owner should try to check where the hooves are set before mounting and might be a lot better. Eventually the horse will learn to prepare herself and brace for the riders weight without moving forward to catch balance.
I also think her stance is quite narrow generally. Not sure if that’s confirmation or if a chiropractor might help.
At job Rebeka❤❤❤
I had a Morgan mare who at first would not stand because she was used to the previous owner getting on or getting in the cart and heading out at 100 miles an hour. So she was prepared to head out at full speed as soon as you started getting on, and we had to practice walking off really slowly and gently for a few weeks before she caught on. There are people who like to jump on and give the horse a kick and off they go at a fast pace. And then the horse will be fidgety expecting that pattern, until they learn that not everyone wants that.
Gorgeous horse!!
Well done! The horse will definitely go back to the own better for having spent time with you.
❤❤❤
She is a beautiful mare. She has the Arabian temperament. She doesn’t want to stand still. She is very antsy. Just needs a boss. Sweety when you are climbing up on a horse that you don’t know extremely well, you might want to notice where that beam in the ceiling is. If she had took off bucking when you mounted it could have been a major catastrophe. I think your head with helmet or not should have collided with that beam above your head. It’s hard to see how far up it is but it doesn’t seem like it’s too far up. Have a Merry Christmas 🎄 and Happy New Year
Good job Rebecca. Loving the vids
She is beautiful. Smaller head. You guys are the experts, why do you think she’s chomping at her bit? Obviously this was tapped in summer, oh how I miss the warm weather. Merry Christmas 🎄🎁 Love in Christ.
Nice looking horse.😊
Love your channel Rebekah and I'm learning so much from you.
Just something for you to try and baring in mind I'm not in your environment etc. but I thought you could try rocking the horse from the side before mounting from the ground to force her to plant her feet and steady herself in preparation for you to jump up.
Yes I do this sometimes. In her case it was not a stability issue it was an anxiety and a control issue.
@RanchingWithRebekah - thank you for replying. I hope you didn't mind the suggestion. I never usually comment as I neither know the horse or your environment (I'm in Australia). I'm learning far more from watching you and your dad's Channel, which I've been binging on lol. I think horsemanship is partly in the blood and partly a gift from God, both of which you have.
It's the Arabian in her I bet. She's beautiful. But ya can't ride beautiful, LOL! GREAT job Bekka.
This had to be before you sold Beauty.
Love your skills😂❤
Hannah is a beautiful horse girly!
Bravo !!! A lovely calm mounting from the ground . I am mounting block addicted but that’s just me… us older gals are not that agile… But , Bekah lookin’ good !!!👍 🐴
I taught her later on to come to the block on cue she did very well!
She is a beautiful horse I had a couple of Arabians and yes they want to get up and go and I really don't know how you can stop the horse from wanting to do that I did endurance riding trotting all the way you learn how to post like you do on a English saddle. It's quite the workout but it's really fulfilling great exercise for the first two three four days you'll be sore but if you do that every day and trot through the whole Trail you will love it. Or maybe not love the videos keep up the great work❤❤❤❤
Yes we did a lot of trotting as well this was her first trail ride with me so I kept it calm and slow for this one.
Exercise BEFORE training helps.
she's a good looking horse. she doesn't look pleased with that bit tho.
I was thinking the same. She doesn’t like that bit.
It was all I had to work with for her also she didn’t have the basics with bit work so she improved very much by the end of her time with me
@@ckswat77zz51right??
Happy holidays!
💚💖🌱💖💚
I bet she's very musical...Hannah 1, Hannah 2, Hannah 3...
😂
Hahaha
😂😂
Great job Becca!❤
Beautiful gal, I think Dad's right, she'd make a pretty baby with Oliver. I like how calm but firm you are when telling her, "Nope, that's not what I asked."😉👍
This camera set up and sounds is great!
Hannah is lovely and moves nicely
She is a gorgeous mare!! Yes her and Oliver would have a beautiful foal!
I’m curious how would she do standing still with the use of a mounting block? Would that be something that you would work with her too?
Yes I ended up teaching her a trick in the end to come to the block but before she didn’t have the basics to stand so I had to start from the ground first.
@ that makes sense. Thank you for explaining that point clearer.
Good riding! Nice horse. Was your dad riding Classy? Was this filmed earlier?
Yes dad was riding classy and yes it was filmed this past summer
Hi Rebekah! I have a suggestion of something that may help w/mounting her. Although this most likely may just be her disposition try mounting from a block. She may have a sore back, muscles, need an adjustment, saddle may not be the best fit for her back, etc, etc & mounting from a block reduces the pressure on her back/spine compared to mounting from the ground. It also can help train her to whenever she sees the block she knows it’s time to stand still. She is really beautiful. Friesians are 1 of my all time most favorite breeds. They’re just such gorgeous powerful horses. Like your sweet Oliver! I love Arabians too, both super sweet but it’s always funny to me seeing this cross w/the laid back personality of the Friesian compared to the high strung personality of the Arabian. Anyhow really enjoying your videos, your family’s videos & I hope you all have a wonderful Christmas & blessed holiday season! 🎄🎅☃🙏
yes!!!! I am a mounting block girl as well !!! i know what you’re thinkin’…… yes…. in the woods i have searched out a tree stump or large rock or …. as well , since i am “ mounting block spoiled”.
Lots of folks insist on mounting from ground, but I ain’t one of em…
Yes one of my signature tricks is teaching horses to come when signaled to the mounting block and stand to be mounted. In this case she needed the basic groundwork and for the rider to regain control before I taught her that trick. Once I established I’m in charge and eliminated the anxiety of being mounted I taught her this trick and she did very well!
I totally understand. But don't overlook the poster's other comment, that her back might be sore or uncomfortable. I am seeing more and more articles on this being an issue in horses. It might be from previous work or rider etc. @RanchingWithRebekah
Ref Oliver baby..... you're quite the salesman JR.
Absolutely gorgeous horse. She appears a little taller than MFTs? Fast learner or is that because of the work you did with her off camera?
She was about 15 hands tall which is the taller average for MFTs. And she was a fast learner but I had done a lot of work off camera and that is why it seemed as though she only had to do things once or was learning very quickly.
Arabian mix? That breed is antsy to begin with...they like their own way...they can be trained, but much more effort involved. Good job, Bekka!😊👍
She looked good. They call that headstrong.
Just because a horse is gentle with one person doesn't mean they will be with the next.
Very true I had the women come out for lessons with Hannah throughout the time she was there
❤
She's beautiful. But her behavior reminds me of one of my past horses. Is it just the camera angle or are her back hooves uneven?
Arabians are known for having a tendency to be high strung. Freishians can be too so it's just the nature of the breed.
Yes but even so with the right training you can teach any horse to be mounted still which I succeed with her. This also taught her some patients and just a simple tune up got her behaving and listening to the rider much better!
Is that the bit she always uses? She doesnt seem to like it, maybe a snaffle instead?
Nope just what we had to use the owner did not have a bit for her so I had to redneck one up out of old parts from old bridles
She's a real beauty. Should your Dad be wearing a helmet?
Her bit might be a little too small for her?
A Friesian crossed with a hot-or-warmblood like a Arabian is referred to as a "Friesian Sport Horse," fyi.
What about the voice command to stand?
I do use voice commands as well not sure if you could here in the video. I always say stand and speak softly as a command to stand when I mount or just want them to stand.
I didn't catch how old she is? In my humble opinion, I think you would learn so much, and expend your experience, by not putting all your horses in the 'western style' of riding. Friesian and Arabs are predominantly ridden in the English style. She did not look happy with that bit, and mounting from the ground is hard on their backs if they are not bred/built for it. She could be a very nice horse with some muscle and condition.
You have no idea where the owner rides the horse. An English saddle is not the best option for everything. Down right dangerous for steep places.
Also, where the Arabian was developed they didn’t use English saddles. Most still don’t. Watched a short of a gathering. Not a single English saddle to be seen.
@conniead5206 respectfully, you are absolutely right. I am of English origin, and as Friesians are from Holland, they are ridden in an English style. As for riding in steep terrain, you perhaps have not had the experience of riding in parts of the UK. English saddles are as stable, comfortable and secure as any other saddle. I only commented as an option for Bekah to possibly explore.
I would love to explore other styles of riding one day as for this mare she was not mine and I had to prepare her for what the owner wanted I don’t get say over everything. She was very comfortable for the style I was in it was what she was trained in from day one, she had become used to getting her way and the issues you were seeing that was in her “mouth” actually was stemming from her agitation of not getting her way. As I showed her who was boss and progressed more with her training she became much more light mouthed.
@RanchingWithRebekah you have a huge amount of talent. It's great to see you with the horses as you have a very strong bond with them. Wouldn't it be amazing if you could spend time in another country, learning their techniques etc. Best wishes.
The round pen is way way to small.!
Sorry I can't hear you
Horse is a bit fat, hope the owner has gained some confidence about putting her to work.
Yes she was I gave the owner some advice on creating a healthy diet for her and what a healthy weight would be for her to maintain
Rebekah, it’s really hard to understand you when you’re working in the round pen. When you talk directly over the video it’s so much easier to hear you.
These are videos from this past summer I am trying to get a microphone which works well with my phone for more recent videos but it’ll be a little while till then. Thank you for your feedback though and I am trying to improve as we go.
@ Thank you for your response. Very proud of all the progress you’re making. ❤️
Omgoodness a Friesian is not a gaited horse haha?? Silly dad 😅
I bet the rules on the farm is #1 wear a helmet? Daddy should be following his own rules, no?
Is this horse from horse plus humane society???
They have not had any horse of that description
Check her teeth!!!! Maybe go bit less. Please let the owner about her mouth.!!!
Lopez or canter??? Lol.
Can't ever hear what you are saying even if I turn my volume up...sorry
Hmmm that’s strange, I can hear just fine.
Punishment? I'm out.
Unfortunately a pattern, same with her Dad.
You CANNOT CONTROL FORCE, ITS MIND, DID YOU NOT SEE HAT 9N BACKWORDS, DOGS, YOU CANNOT MAKE A HORSE STAND, IF YOU TRULY WANT HELP I HAVE A LIST OF 16 THINGS YOU DID, I NEVER DO IN FIRST 20 SECONDS, AND YES I AM A EQUINE, AND VET TRAINED NOT A COCO CLOWN. YOU CANNOT FORCE A HORSE TO STAND STARTED SO BAD AND GOT WORSE BY THE SECOND.
