For all my research and study about the views of justification between Reformed vs Catholic, it really does seem to me that most of the time we're saying sorta the same things, just with slightly different understandings and senses of specific words. As far as I understand, we are saved by grace through faith; and not a dead faith, but one that has produced fruit worthy of repentance. It seems to me the primary controversy is that of authority; Sola Scriptura vs Papacy. You seem much younger than myself, but you're clearly intelligent and thoughtful, blessed by God and called to do his good works which he has prepared for you since before you were born. Sometimes it seems like there are so few orthodox Christians, especially among the younger folks. Thank you for what you do, and your chill videos are always a pleasure to watch. rcc says faith allows the works of salvation. salvation through faith alone include Acts 16:31; Romans 3:28; 4:5; 5:1; Galatians 2:16; 3:24; Ephesians 1:13; and Philippians 3:9.
Yeah, we're saved through faith alone. But know that all who live in Christ will be called to do works for the Glory of God. Don't forget about the works of the saints, both material and spiritual. I am Protestant, but I care very deeply about orthodoxy, sacraments, and remembrance of the saints.
@@donhaddix3770 I know, but some are obviously worth more to remember than others. I think the list of catholic saints is inclusive, but not absolutely the list of all saints.
I found the channel just _after_ I decided that a MineCraft server building famous historical churches would be a cool thing for my church's youth group to get into. After a warm-up with a quaint little New England stone church by the sea, I'm going to try doing a 1:1 Hagia Sophia, as close to the historic Christian version as possible. Pray for us. @@jimluebke3869 idk how you doing with the hagia sophia, but do note that 1:1 ratios don't work that well on minecraft. If you're trying to replicate the sense of grandeur of the church I'd advice you to actually make it bigger. Double it or even triple it

I've been enjoying the backlog. I hope it's not weird being an older viewer (31) but it's very nice to see guys who are exploring and discussing the faith at the same age I was when I began to question and take my faith seriously in college. Let me say with my little bit of extra life experience, stay as close to Christ as you can. Even though other paths may seem flashier and more fun at times, you'll be happier and God will bless your life in ways you couldn't imagine.
Great channel, been following you for about a month now I think, and you've got very informative videos. I was raised as an independent Baptist myself, but other Christians (namely online Catholics, but also my dad, who has converted to Anglicanism in the past few years) convinced me to return to my faith, so I've been trying to keep my ears open to learn more about other traditions and historical theology.
This is absolutely amazing. I just discovered this channel. As a reformed Presby myself this is very interesting to watch. I honestly didn't know about the reformed reluctance to celebrate Christmas! My church doesn't want to have specific holiday services, because every day is the Lord's Day and no Sunday is more important than the rest. But everyone in my church loves Christmas and we have separate get-togethers around Christmas to celebrate. Our church is strongly cessantionist. This is largely supported in the Greek language of Paul. Which is SUPER complicated when you don't know Greek. So I completely understand why many aren't. However, one of the smartest people I know, especially in Reformed Theology, is a continuationlist (idk how to spell both frankly). I think that many in the Reformed Churches have their view, but aren't strict on it, because Scripture itself is vague on the matter. We are, however, strictly against the idea that speaking in tongues in some "angelic" language. Where in the Scripture does an angel speak in a different tongue? Also Paul explicitly tells us in Corinthians that when speaking in a tongue, there must be a translator. But we all are different, and these are all minor issues. These are just my thoughts. I loved the video, and I really liked your perspective!
That's really interesting! I didn't know that about Reformed Presbys. I'm continuationist, and believe strongly in the power and movement of the Holy Spirit today, but I agree that a lot of us get super caught up in talking about minor issues when there are bigger ones to worry about.

Can't lie I l truly respect and admire reformed theology. I myself iam a young conservative charismatic in the UK and randomly stumbled upon you video where you spoke out the heritage churches being taken over by liberal theology. And it's was so true especially here in the UK any old building church in the town center are so liberal it's about of joke to call them churches at all. There are things In my theology I don't agree with but it's more about application of certain scriptures.
Im baptist and our small church has been around for 150+ years. There are stories about an exorcism that happened at our church. It would have been when I was a child and I am 40.

There are some Christmas traditions that are pretty non-Catholic in addition to being non-Christian. You may have heard of the tradition of "Wassailing" in an old carol (which makes it all sound like jolly fun), but it pays to recall that it's basically roving gangs of rowdy young men doing something like "trick-or-treating" for beer.
Im currenty Presbyterian and I've heard of our church presbyters talking about miracles and exorcism they have witnessed experience. Like for example. One of presbyters talk about this pastor during the 90s who was going on a mission somewhere isolated, he got lost so he prayed and then a tiger comes which frightened him. But he got this relief in him which persuaded him to follow the tiger. As he followed the tiger he ended up where he was supposed to go.
I agree with the sentiment of we shouldn't try to be as anti-catholic as possible. In a similar fashion, I think the early church may have gone a little wrong in trying to be as anti-jewish as possible. Obviously that wasn't how they started, but whereas they both had the same sabbath and even same buildings for worship in the beginning, obviously something had to change. But, did they really need to move the sabbath day from what God initiated at creation? I think we have freedom, as the church, to do so, and the sabbath was made for us, but in general I would've been strongly against the idea. Long time down the road, and I definitely think unity trumps personal idealism. Paul mentioned being all things to all people so that by all means he might save some. I think there's a lot of freedom to be had. It shouldn't be something that divides us.

I'm not against musical instruments, but using Psalm 150 to support the usage of instruments in public worship might be a weak argument. Ps 150 lists a lot of musical instruments, but based on the Mosaic law, only a few mentioned there could be used in temple worship. So what Ps 150 is talking about is evidently not temple/public worship, but private praise to the Lord. Perhaps a better justification of instruments would be to see it as accidents (or circumstances) rather than elements of worship. This element/circumstance distinction helps us to differentiate what parts of worship to regulate (the elements) and what is for the church to decide (circumstances).
“THERE is no day commanded in scripture to be kept holy under the gospel but the Lord’s day, which is the Christian Sabbath. Festival days, vulgarly called Holy-days, having no warrant in the word of God, are not to be continued.” - Westminster Directory for the Public Worship of God (Appendix)
The regulative principle: Okay, so I can do it if it's in scripture. "On that day you shall bring money to Jerusalem and purchase wine, strong liquor, or whatever makes you happy." This is a feast the Jews were commanded to participate in, and Christ has fulfilled its purpose, but it does explicitly state that God wants his chosen people to have awesome parties with booze and drugs... Soooooo.... Another interesting ramification: "Everything is permissible, but not everything is useful." So anything that is useful is permissible by scripture. Is Christmas useful? Survey says yes. Therefore Christmas is at least permissible. Finally, my favorite, by the regulative principle's own rules, the Regulative Principle itself is nonbiblical, making it a paradoxical principle. God I love me some theology in the morning.

I agree that contemporary worship music is bad, but what if we Praised Him with a fat wah-pedal guitar solo on a bigsby or like a pedal steel or with heavy downtuned riffs?

The Catholic Church can't be cessationist if it believes that miracles can occur at the intercession of modern saints, right? If I understand correctly, that's a criterion for sainthood.

Regarding church design, I want to speak on behalf of newer churches. Beauty is quite subjective, that can’t be denied. Most (what feels like all) people who prefer traditional things act as though new things are poorly and lazily made, and there is no care for beauty. I’m here to tell you that isn’t true whatsoever. I think new contemporary churches with warehouse design are MUCH more beautiful than the gaudy churches of yore. I do think it’s cool that many European churches are built over generations so there’s history to them, but overall I think traditional architecture is hideous and uncreative. It’s just slapping a bunch of crap together with as many embellishments as possible mindlessly assembled as will fit in a space. It’s a person who’s never payed attention to beauty’s idea of beauty. God makes beautiful things, and you know what He doesn’t do? He doesn’t cobble everything together. He works with a pallet and allows for space. It’s like classical music. Beethoven was dead and his music sounds like it was written by a deaf guy who just happened to know music theory. It’s melody soup. Modern songwriting is intentional, holistic, and expressive. Classical church design is aesthetic soup. It’s haphazard, lazy, and gaudy. Modern church design is careful, cool, and functional. No disrespect, I just feel that those of us who don’t like traditional things need to speak up more and out the traditionalists in their place.

Exorcism is definitely one of the coolest parts about the catholic church
