In a way, it's kind of reassuring to know that even professionals get screwed by contractors sometimes.
we all make mistakes. and then we need to own them.
?
@@REALITYRENOVISION To quote a RUclips lawyer (who I think says is a Jefferson quote): "If you must eat crow, eat it while it is young and tender, or you will surely eat it when it is old and tough".
Thats actually a very sad commentary...to get screwed over, and it would make anyone wary of contractors.
@@RannonSi I love the beautiful way he handled it. What do they not understand about "follow the template?"
"He wanted the sink according to the template"... No sh*t!
"Hey, I got a guy down here who want's what he asked for....I know right, that's what I said!" Is what I heard
"Normally."
🙄
Had they never done this before?
Evidently they didn't know you are a professional in that industry.
Right. burns my butt that they tried to pass it off as acceptable.
"Normally this is what we do" ...okay so you admit you screwed up this time, right?
As an engineer I hate having to hear how a contractor has been doing something for 30 years.
Even if it's true, it doesn't change if something was done wrong today.
Cheers to that!
Note to counter top company: just admit you effed up. Period. GTF out of here with your excuses and attempts at justifications on how you "normally" do things.
Technology changes, code changes, techniques change, styling preferences change, amongst other things. It’s fine to have stand by methods to fall back on when not given a direction, but you have to keep pace with the industry.
Right!?! 30yrs and he never got so lucky to just have to TRACE a template? How can someone F that up! 😂
I think the thumbs down on this video are just from buddy who measured the quartz and his co-workers. ;)
LOL. love it!
😂😆😆
Couple goals: get yourself a spouse that can communicate through renovations like Jeff and Michelle!
Great job guys!
cheers 32 years experience.
Ss🥰🥰🥰🤣🥰
Yes I agree If you guys ever want to do some tips and tricks on communication with a partner through a project/redecoration/renovation my husband and I would love it.
Yep. She was so corporative.
Well her husband does that as a job so of course she trust him.
Jeez, the way you and Michelle look at each other - maybe you need to make a relationship how-to series. Most couples crumble during renovation, you guys look like you are headed up to the bedroom for some demo...
I second that!
LOL. Cheers we do have a great time working together!
LMAO!!🤣
Wife? I was trying to figure out why he was flirting with her.
@@rubyoro0 why not that's his wife .the fire is still
still burning and, i hope it never goes out between 👥 keep burning 🎆for a life ♥️
😍😘
Should have said to the countertop contractor "Do you normally do your job effeciently"
I agree with how supportive Michelle is and they compliment each other well. Jeff always includes her in the design and decisions. The fruits of a wonderful marriage, family and DIY champions. God Bless the Thormans and Reality Renovations 🙏
Well said Audrey. I know they appreciate your support thank you for the kind words!
IS THE NAME OF THAT GUY'S COMPANY NAMED NORMALLY
Loving it!
#perfecteverytime
Just had a heating and cooling contractor before christmass run the dryer exhaust in front of the plug and the big dicussion was. Do you need it? , Screwballs i asked him if they had shit brains
Well, "normally" I enjoy watching your show....lol and today was not different. That installer/counter top guy was a piece of work.
Normally I would agree! Cheers and i do again!
Why was he taking so much time explaining what he would normally do, just fix the problem!
Absolutely love how he and his wife work together. What a team!
Family is for sure the best team
Really they make me wana throw up 🤢
that contractor was literally making an excuse of a big mistake. "normally" when we make mistakes, we accept it, and immediately solve the error.. :) ....NICE KITCHEN!
Yeah really piss poor job they did. But glad it was caught on camera because that's real life. Believe it or not this happens again but with the hot tub
Michelle is amazing. So supportive, intelligent, and quite a partner. Behind every great man, is a great woman.
Shes in all the new episodes these days you can check her out there
Amen 🙏
She is a terrible actor, fake superficial nauseating
The whole fam damly. We used to say that in our family, too. 😂😅🤣
um.. no
God, Jeff's rants are pure gold.

Nothing “usual” about this episode and I love it! Great look and feel of the video and the reno is amazing! Thanks for the inspiration.
This is Jeffs reality show.. maybe you didnt know hes got this channel also on top of his diy channel
@@jamessychak981 oh I know but even compared to other realityrenovision episodes, this one has a bit different feel.
Haha no I didnt see the (usually) rant yet. Now I get it haha
Glad you enjoyed it! Cheers!
Another FANTASTIC video!!! You two are an AMAZING TEAM!
When is Michelle getting her own Design Channel? I love all the decor she adds to the projects and would love links to where she buys decor items. You do amazing work but Michelle makes the rooms pop with sophisticated beauty.
she is gonna be more regular now that she is getting used to being on camera. Thanks to everyone who has been encouraging her. Cheers!
Wow that a transformation! I loved this episode the detail behind the design was very interesting, so much learned. It's almost like HGTV expect I feel I learned a lot more?? does that make sense?! Only thing is I miss the old opening to the show loved Jeff's little phrases and that song!
Thank you! Cheers!
Ya i get it. Jeff has a way of telling you what needs to be done and how to go about doing it. The DIY stations don\t actually do that as well as Jeff does.
I love his comments "SEXY HEART💞"
Beautiful! Also, although the cutter may have initially "screwed up", he redeemed himself by fixing the problem immediately, so props to him for that. You have to admit...crap just happens sometimes. Sometimes its our own fault and sometimes its out of our hands completely...but how you DEAL with that problem also matters.
This is THE MOST UNREALISTIC one of your videos I've seen yet....
Because husband and wife immediately agreed on everything. HA!
Just kidding you, thank you so much for ALL your videos, they're immensely helpful!
🤣😂😆
Michelle is a very intelligent woman.... she let's you do what your expert at. She's willing to put up with the growing pains of reconstruction, remodeling. She knows the finished product will be so worth it. Thanks for the reality series video.See you on HGTV.
Thanks for the kind words. I doubt this show will ever be HGTV worthy due to their structure but I think Discovery Channel would be great
Jeff kept the tears in with his anger
Not sure how he kept it together as well as he did to be honest.
You have two weeks and I want new appliances...
8weeks and chuckles...
Love it
Reality Renovision lol. Keeping it real
So i thought the kitchen looked pretty good before, then just wow. I cant believe what an incredible transformation this was.
My wife and I enjoyed Reality Renovision as our Friday Night date - Michelle really brought her talents in making the project beautiful. You both are great together on camera and a cute couple (I could not have gotten my wife to watch another building video if it were not for Michelle. I really appreciated showing how you handled the whole sink issue, using live video and real emotion. I think a lot of DIYers might have just accepted a contractor's error. Explaining the sign-off process was key. As a longtime follower and fan Jeff, thank you to all who work hard to bring your DIY videos to us. It's great to highlight vendors and manufacturers. Keep the videos coming!
What kind of stone was that Grey island... beautiful 💕
Normally I don't get this much anxiety from hearing the word normally 😂
PTSD for life from that word after this
Great work and beautiful kitchen! For my taste I would’ve got rid of the left facing window and had a cabinet there,. Women love more space to put their dishes and glassware.
Your wife is awesome, fun, game for whatever and seems easy to live with. I think I married her sister 35 years ago. Good catch !! :) Love your channel.
Well said!
Yup, she's a keeper!!!
Jeff, your relationship with your wife is amazing! Defo a strong team
Was this remodel really on a budget? Lol great job anyway
It was on a budget for how much was done, but that doesnt mean it was cheap. Yes it cost some money but the amount that was saved doing it DIY is larger in the grander scale. Keeping things on budget doesnt mean keeping it cheap. Hope this helps! Cheers
Ikea cabinets, laminate countertop on the back. Yes it was.
What he said was do it yourself but pay for quality.
according to their 'budget', a budget only means an 'amount of money', so what this means is... it's about the amount of money it 'will cost' them, in the end, to complete this project. This does not mean that they do not have much money to get this project completed with everything they wanted. Truly, I love it, truly beautiful, he really did make a huge difference.
Totally unrealistic wife character in this video. “Yeah” “right” “perfect” “no problem”. Are you kidding?😉
Beautiful and your a beautiful couple... Thank you for sharing your journey.
You guys are just so damn cute
Cheers Mary, and thank you for your continued support of our channels!
I'm loving how much effort you are putting into making such a beautiful kitchen for your wife. It's great that she is so happy with everything. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you so much
I got chills when she walked in and literally lit up the room when she seen that nice surprise!👼

jeff has set the bar high for the rest of us...his wife wants it and he makes it happen "anything you want"
That's my kinda of REAL MAN! 😂
New kitchen appliances
HGTV Should be jealous! Love it keep this content coming!
Thanks Beast for the awesome comment! New episodes every 2 weeks
Where did the sink come from? I like the extras it has!
Stylish
Also, have never ones had a customer sign off on measurements. We take templates of the cabinets to insure that the countertop is cut exactly to the shape of the cabinets.
I love this! Great work, and great production. Also I definitely saw some Brooklyn attitude coming out of Jeff when talking about the counters- haha! Definitely the kind of straight-talking I trust
Glad you enjoyed it!
Hi Jeff, fairly new subscriber and wanted to say I wish I had your video's a few years ago. I had some work done by a local renovator and for the last 2 years I have been upgrading and repairing his or their work. I do appreciate your truths about renovations. Things don't always run smoothly and WOW did I ever hear you when you reacted to the word "normally". One of the reactions I had when I was told by the plumber that the work was done and had to call him back to actually attach the drain line to the shower drain. Who would have thought you have to explain that to the plumber. That's my rant. (1 of many) Keep up the video's, really enjoy seeing your work. Love the kitchen too, Thanks.
cheers!
Oh man...I'd be fricking pissed too. Geez!! Normally my thigh. Def get some off their stupid service. Just wow!!!
Have you noticed that they never told you how much they spent on the 'budget' reno? That is a very expensive stove just to start.
I love how "real" your video is!! Thank you and your wife for letting us be a part of this "journey"
I forgot to mention WHAT A BEAUTIFUL KITCHEN!! GREAT JOB YOU TWO!!
Could the floors have been saved with clear epoxy, to make the finish and fill contiguous?
I know its not a cheap material, and isn't as easy to work with as people are led to believe.
The amount of movement in that floor made it hard to do anything with a product that cures. Even the floor leveler cracked on some areas after. So vinyl flooring was a smart move
@@SubdivisionAutoThat makes sense. I just did a room in ripped maple plywood.
It looks great, and it will last well enough in a bedroom, but I stopped short of doing the whole house.
I can envision a hideous mess from one water leak, and at the pace I move, i could swing the cost of solid maple boards.
Or after lumbers prices drop at the retail level, go doug fir instead.
I shied away from it because, like most people, I didn't understand that doug fir isn't an actual fir, and is more like a hardwood - better than a hardwood for some applications.
If you did a giveaway for the worst kitchen in North America, I’d win !!
No! I got the ugliest old kitchen ,thumps downs
IT WOULD REALLY BE A TRUR BLESSING FOR THEM TO DO A FREE GIVEAWAY!!👼

"Through the standard 1-1/4" hole that is drilled by the quarts guy"
LMAO the shadeeee. The only thing you should have thrown in there is a Normally.😂😂😂
At 24:00 Michelle is positively shaking with excitement. That is so cute.
Please tell me the name and brand of that blue/grey color you are using on the walls. I've been trying to find it! Also, can you please tell me the name of the green underpad you are using? I know by now you are using good quality. Ha ha. Thank you! I very much appreciate you.
The colors Jeff doesnt like to reveal because the camera doesnt always show the true color. Wouldnt want people to be disappointed so sorry. The underpad you can get at any flooring supplier wholesaler.
normally is another word for I assumed
and he sure did make an ass out of himself. They knew they had screwed up before they even got there!
I love your wife! She has good taste, optimistic, and seems like she supports you pretty good. Don't think your country place is not a desirable location. With covid changing many jobs into remote opportunities, the country has increased in value.
And with all of the upgrades; they'll never have a problem selling!
"I'm gonna stop saying normally and say usually." I think you missed the point dude. The point is to do it exactly according to the template and not do what you "normally" do.
I love your explanation regarding the sink debacle. My husband who is well versed in electrical, plumbing and various mechanicals has been telling me to be vocal about what is not right when dealing with various contractors/subs. Our first home he renovated the house himself from kitchens, bathrooms, main floor renovations of paint and refinishing wood flooring. We moved into another home and knew we were going to renovate. He fired about five contractors for various reasons such as unqualified workers, not pulling permits, etc. His concern is should he not be here on this earth that I am prepared to handle things around the home. Although not expected, this was truly a valuable piece of footage for those who may not know or need to know what can happen and how to handle it. A big thank you for that!
“Not much of a budget”… proceeds to discuss ripping open the entire first floor :O
Love it!
My thoughts exactly. 🤔
Jeff you are a riot lololol . You have every reason to get angry " They need to do their job and measure correctly, love your show! Thank you so much for sharing I'm learning so much with you. This DIY is not afraid to get her hands dirty. By the way you wife is very lovely. God bless your union and family.
This is the part of renovations TV shows never show. This is reality and thats why we included it. It happens more than you think too... infact it happens AGAIN in an upcoming episode on this series... but youll have to keep watching to see what I mean
Lowe’s left me 11 1/2 months without a functioning kitchen. After watching your videos for at least over a year. Probably more like few years. Learning and even implementing some of the things I’ve seen from you. Knowledge is valuable. Spreading knowledge is priceless. Thank you!! For everything you do and show
Can you create a video that teaches someone how to choose a contractor or any other skilled professional? I’ve watched some of your videos and your frustration with the way some guys did former work. Scary!!!!
That is avaialble on his second channel Home Renovision!
"Normally, I don't have repeat business."
Haha seriously
What are you going to do with the existing backsplash tile? I actually really like the style that you have. And I am addicted to your channel.
Glad you enjoy the show. You will just have to stick around and see what happens! The whole farm house process is covered in this series
Michelle is the most agreeable client I have ever seen! Did you train her to be that way or did she come that way. You make a great team. I have learned so much and will watch as many of your vids as possible. A "new to me" house is in the near future. It will require a few Thorman type upgrades/improvements!!! Keep up the good work and great humor. Thanks for emphasizing that there is no NORMAL in the construction business!!! Just as there is no such word as "standard"!
I think that most folks make good clients if you listen and give them what they want. Cheers!
all i want is to know where the sink and faucet are from, hehe.
Stylish
"Sometimes the template is wrong"??? You mean the template supplied by the sink manufacturer. REALLY? Sounds like BS! And i dont mean " Beer and Sunshine"
Beautiful!
You need to put a big bead of white caulk in the left and right corners of the kitchen walls.
Agreed. Believe it or not it's not done he still has a punch list left. You will see the final finale in the final episode
You did a good job keeping your cool in light of how he talked down to you.
Cheers!
Contractor saying "Normally", means he's trying to think up an excuse fast
LOVE the new kitchen! It's absolutely stunning! Great design and workmanship. Loved watching the process as well.
Thanks for the feedback Heath!
If you have someone like this guy in your life, YOU’RE TRULY BLESSED. He’ll save you and your bank account.
Agreed! But he can teach you to do the same. That's the ideas of the channel
It could've been worse: hole too large. At least the hole they cut was on the small side and can be refinished on their shop.
Jeff, watching your interaction with that man was like looking in a mirror. Honestly, I could feel my face getting red just watching it. I've been there, far too often. Nothing makes me want to shake the snot out of someone like dealing with incompetence. Even worse, someone who feels the need to blame others for the mistake. My response is usually, "You're here, don't pass the buck to someone else who's NOT here as if that's going to make me less irritated or cause me to spare you my indignation. You're here, so take it!" LOL, ain't that life though? Thanks for all the videos guys, I really appreciate them. They've helped me make better purchases and FAR less mistakes. If you're ever in St. Louis, My wife and I owe you and yours a beer.......or two...well three, yea three. Thanks again.
Trust me we appreciate your feedback, thank you! Glad you enjoy the show and I am sure Jeff would take you up on that beer if he was in the area...
I can tolerate a mistake; we all make them. I can't tolerate lack of accountability.
I love how she thought she had to remind Jeff Thorman that the walls might be load bearing
Thanks for sharing the experience. So we can avoid such companies and alert if similar issues in process
Your videos are not only Learn how to but taught me lessen learn for any issues arises. I am so glad finding your channels
Your videos how to are excellent and is a quite impressive option to learn comparing to local Home Depot I store classes before pandemic. Basically, you open the door for remotely world wide home how to hands on. Maybe Home Depot or Lowe’s and etc should use your service to online training so we know to use parts and etc from the store to work on.
Glad you enjoy. Check out some of the new episode and let us know what you think
Three days till the show starts...
I need this guy in my life right now! That's amazing! How handy is he?! :)
Be that guy, Vanessa!
We had something similar with my brother when he tried having someone building a deck for him. They never dealt with composite boards before, but regardless made wrong cuts on four different boards. These boards aren't cheap, neither was the gas I did to drive to get the new boards for them to screw it up again. Eventually we did the deck ourselves with the help of a relative who has built decks before. The only thing the deck company did better than mr "NORMALLY" is they apologized.
I dont know whats worse. The fact the guy got it wrong or the fact he refused to take accountability.
@@SubdivisionAuto The fact that he refused to take accountability; a narcissistic trait. Your self-reflection regarding what you might possibly have done wrong, is a sign of high emotional intelligence. High EQ is the best predictor of happiness in life. BTW, Narcissists will never be happy.
Wow, that was a beautiful remodel. I have a short attention span but watched the entire video. Your restraint with the contractor who cut your countertop was inspiring. "Normally" I would have gone off on him :-)
Not a bad kitchen to start, but I’m sure the end result will be so much better!
I was actually thinking they were showing the "after" in the beginning since it is so much nicer than my kitchen lol.
Wow you remained calm with those counter top guys. They sounded Ike every homeowners worst nightmare. You handled that well.
Not sure how he kept his cool there to be honest. WHat a stupid sitation when the contractor refuses to say "I screwed up"
I just love the renovation of your kitchen, on point, everything blends nicely in♥️♥️♥️
I felt the anger in your rant! I hade the stone installers spill epoxy on my cabinets and that never got taken care of. I don't know why doing the job right is so difficult.
How he didn't lose it is beyond me. The crazy part is this type of situation happens AGAIN later in the season.... with the hot tub. But youll have to keep watching to see that one.
that looks amazing love the way you plan the reno out ..awesome video i also see your wife got her new appliences lol keep up the great videos....
Yes Zline provided those. Very nice machines
Those guy has pay no attention to the customer, I will not do business with them anymore 👎💩 Thanks Jeff 👍👍👍😆🤩
Lots of companies like this out there
“You want me to throw my back out lifting something heavy-everyone makes their own choices in life.” Instant classic!
IKR!?!? So well handled!!!!
Love this kitchen!
I'm glad you showed how things can go wrong and also how you were able to keep your cool. Your wife and you make a great team she left the room when the countertop guy was arguing with you and knew you would handle it. I would have gone straight off because he clearly wasn't listening to you. You are a class act and know your stuff!!
Cheers. I am glad she left. It is easier for me to deal with a rabid Pitbull than to peel her off of someone who does not treat me right.
@@REALITYRENOVISION Maybe someday we get to see Michelle open a can of Shao Lin Kempo on someone who doesn't treat her man right. I'm bringing the popcorn! 🤩🍿
Awesome video! For sure loved the end to show things go wrong and how you go about it. Man we could tell you got super heated with him lol your wife was just like I'm going to clean it off while you patiently go off on them 😂
Incompetent from the get go with the island counter top. When I was in retail, deliveries if later than 10 min. a call was required .....It's called respect. This has become such a common thing in today's society. Good thing the hole was too small or he would have had to replace the whole countertop free.
Thank you for watching the modern farmhouse kitchen video. It's very informative🧡😊🎄😀🥰😁💕👍👍👍
Glad you enjoy, hope you keep watching the series as this house progresses
When I ordered granite for my kitchen counters, the fabricator took the sink and template to their factory after lazer measuring the area for the counters. The granite was cut and the under mount sink was attached, probably glued, to the granite in their factory and reinforced with undercounter brackets once the counter was installed. The quartz counters you got should have been as smooth as a babies bottom. Granite on the other hand is a natural product cut from a slab and can have some tiny irregularities on the surface. Love your videos. They are very informative.
I'd be so happy with that before kitchen. My parents "remodeled" their kitchen in the 1980s. Like your house, it's an 1880s house. Light mauve pink on the walls. Kelly green high gloss cabinet doors. My Dad painted cars for a living. He used automotive paint. YELLOW faux marble floor tiles (they were cheap, my Dad proudly pronounced. Yeah. They look it.). I'm going to paint it a light yellow, a color I don't love, but at least it will look better with the green cabinet doors and the yellow faux marble (dirty) floor. Oh. The backsplash is the same dirty yellow floor tile. Also behind the stove, poorly (patched) installed. Under that nasty yellow floor tile is faux brick from the 1920s, which I would much prefer to the yellow floor tile. And I'll still be stuck with the mauve pink countertop.
This is a very detailed video and I appreciate it very much because I am on the planning stage of my kitchen renovation. I love your videos and I am looking forward to see more. Thank you.
Glad it was helpful! Best of success!
The thing I've learned when dealing with the general contracting industry is that employees and employers will ALWAYS take shortcuts if you let them, and if they think they can get away with it. One of the reasons to DIY isn't even to take on all the projects, it is so you are sufficiently informed that when the pros come by and cut corners, you can call them out on it immediately.
Don't allow them to tell you it is 'normal' or any such garbage. It's just humans being lazy.
its god send to have a husband who has talent be it a natural or thru hard work 🙌🙌🙌❤️❤️❤️
Wow, thank you

Sorry we do not reveal the paint colors due to the fact the camera never shows the true color. With all the lights and color correction it's hard to show the "true" color.
