Pam changing a foot on a sewing machine is so easy.
You just lose a screw and take the foot off and put the new foot on and and tighten the screw and then you are done easy peasy.
    Love your videos so much.

You can make stamps, the foam really works great for stamp making. I have made quite a few for collaging .You have to use a base to put it on like cardboard or meat trays that are cut into squares and then you glue foam shapes on to them works really great!

When you put the presser foot down, make sure the thread goes through the space on the foot and pull it to the back. I also always put the needle down before I start sewing. It really just takes practice and I think you’re doing great!!!

  • @sandychilese2893
    @sandychilese2893 3 года назад +3

Skipped stitches are a classic indicator that the needle needs to be changed. Lowering the feedings will require that you guide the fabric under the needle. If you lower them, you will need to pull the project through and that will require some practice to pull it through evenly. The other thing to consider is that the glue might not have dried. There might be residue on the needle and that can screw up a lot. It's amazing how important a good needle is to good sewing. Also a longer and wider zig zag stitch would travel through the machine a little more smoothly too. Love that you are incorporating sewing into your projects. Almost forgot to say thank you for sharing.

Super idea! You may want to lift your presser foot when you turn corners. Also, when zig-zagging, make sure your needle is down in the right hand side. That should help you turn corners better.

I decided a couple years ago that not another piece of fun foam would come into my studio. Fun to watch you having fun. BTW the Brother XM2701 is a basic machine with 27 stitches (I generally use only 3-4), auto threading and auto bobbin. The light is crappy, but I added a stick on battery fueled LED light which works great. The machine is about $100 new, on Amazon. I bought a refurbished on Amazon for $75 and it comes with a year warranty. Lots of tutorials to get you going too!

You found an actual use for "fun foam"! The only other use I've seen is when doing Steam Punk, you can cut squares and rectangles to glue down on your project to make a layered industrial look. Another hint on the Steam punk look is to glue split peas on as rivets around edges of fun foam...then paint it all of course. TFS Hope you have a great day. 🙂

If you notice that you skip stitches or they don’t look like they should. Try taking out the spool 🧵 and bobbin and re-thread everything! Most of the time, it fixes the problem. See if everything is clear, no fluffballs or dust stuck in places they shouldn’t be 🤔
Then check your upper and lower tension... it helps to always have a “test” piece of fabric on the side to test your stitches before sewing your actual piece (patience, grasshopper 😜)
Love your tutorial 😊👍🏻 you’re the best!

I just received a couple pieces of foam so I’m gonna try this. The only things I have to add to the suggestions given is instead of starting at the corner where it is thickest, try starting a couple inches away from the corner so you sew along before you get to a corner is the way I was taught. Best advice for putting the binding on quilts! The other suggestion I have, and it may not matter with your machine, but try making sure your top thread is beneath the foot and towards the back when you start off. May not matter but sometimes it’s the little things.

Ok, so I loved these. However, what I want to say is really a comment about how watching your podcasts has inspired me to not throw something away. We are having a yard sale soon in preparation for downsizing. Hubby came to me and said, what do you want to do with all of Zack's school papers? Zack is our only child and he is 30. I am really rather melancholy about his school papers from pre school and K to, oh about 3rd grade. He continued to do lovely art throughout his school years, too. I didn't want to throw them away, but neither do I want to drag them around until I'm dead. Zack wouldn't want them now either. So, rather than tossing them into a tote, dragging them around until I die (and here's where you're inspiration comes in), I'm going to make them into books! I can sew the papers together (something I learned from you) with soft covers (I'm running down as I speak to snatch back some of the old cloth place mats earmarked for the yard sale or even use the old textbook covers as, well, covers. This way, I've kept the crème de la crème and it's organized and in something lovelier than a tote. Thank you so much!!!!!!!

This may help with your sewing and it may not, but I always make sure the thread is placed under and behind the foot. I usually don't have trouble with thread breaking that way. I have the exact Brother machine that you have and I love it. One rule I try to follow is make sure the glue is not still wet. Most glue will ruin your machine over time if you sew over wet glue. Sometimes even dry glue can "gum" your needles and parts of the machine. I know you have heard all of this, but I just wanted to help out in some way since you did ask for suggestions. Have a nice weekend everyone.

When I first started sewing paper together I used double sided tape to semi attach the papers before I sewed them - What a nightmare!! It jammed up the needle and didn't sew. Maybe the adhesive on the back of the fun foam is affecting the stitching? I use the fun foam for putting in between journal pages as a good flat base for stamping the page, especially if the previous page is a bit bumpy.
I love your videos Pam, they always make me smile. 🙂

On the sewing machine where the first sticker is in front of you, you can uncoil the section out, and there’s a tiny box in it, there will be other feet and a seam ripper and other bits, including needles,
The feet will have numbers on them, there might be a chart on the box, or under where you clipped the box, what you need for the foam to make it easier is a walking foot :-)
    Hope this helps x

You can make stamps out of it. When you have I diecut that you like and you want a stamp from it. Make it two times through your diecut machine, glue them together and then on a thick piece of cardstock and you have a stamp. Not extremely clear and krispy, but super for backgrounds and little things.

Fun little project Pam. Most likely the problem forming stitches was due to the thickness of the foam. Most modern machines are not great with thick fabrics etc. You could try using a denim needle on your machine. The other reason for lose stitching is usually a tension problem, this can be caused by using two different threads top and bottom, or being near the end of the spools. You will find it better to start with your needle in your fabric using the hand wheel. One other possible tension problem would be pushing your fabric too much, it helps to guide your fabric from either side of the piece of work rather than from the top of bottom, this will help keep it straight and avoid pushing or pulling fabric. The feed dogs should do most of the work moving the fabric through the machine. Hope you don’t mind the tips, I have done loads of denim quilting along the way so know through trial and error! You might enjoy trying free machine embroidery with your machine it is a lot of fun and you can draw with thread with reckless abandon. Sure RUclips will have tutorials. ATB. Give Sunny a smoosh from me.

Sometimes its a dull needle that makes it skip stitches. Change the needle every few hours of sewing.

Get a Walking Foot for your sewing machine it has upper feed dogs to help drag your fabric through.

Yes it misses stitches when too thick or uneven but eventually it will catch by the time you have gone over a couple of times.ove your sewing techniques so raw and fun and then seeing fur baby make an appearance is the icing on the cake....I have a couple of those foam only moved to the BOTTOM of the drawer.....tfs Pam 😁
