    Extremely helpful! I do jewelry design and was forced to use a different SubD tool since TSplines was discontinued. I'm so stoked to see the McNeel guys turning this into a reality.

      Hi Miss, thanks for the comments. The ToSubD command is a newer update. If you are using an older version of rhino 6, the command is SubDfromMesh. You can update the release version to update to this new commands.
      Cheers.

    can anyone give a basic breakdown of why certain modeling types are used? Rhino is used for industrial surface design intended to be manufactured? Subdivision modeling is for modeling more complex organic forms (as opposed to automotive type surfaces, bike frames, overall simpler surfaces) ? Is a software like Z Brush a subdivision modeler? Whats the difference in polygonal modeling? Solid modeling? My apologies in advance for the broad questions.

    • @simpernchong
      @simpernchong  4 года назад +1

      Hi, Rhino is primarily a NURBS modeller. Its subdivision modeling is different from that of programs such as 3DS Max in the sense that the Subdivision converts to NURBS instead of polygons. NURBS formats are required for manufacturing. The standard exchange format is STEP or IGES(older format). Polygons are not accurate enough for manufacturing. Zbrush is primarily a mesh modeller.
      Just my understanding.

    Hey, every time I type "tosubd" my rhino 6 says "Unknown Command", why it's occurring that? Nice video though!

      @DiegoKrausebrc 4 года назад +3

      in Rhino 6 there is no sub-d toolbar, all of them are hidden, the only way to use them is knowing the complete name and then making your own toolbar.

    i open .STL file to Rhino, can export or redesign to .step or parasolid file for solidwork ???
    Thank sir so much

    • @simpernchong
      @simpernchong  3 года назад +1

      Oh... that depends. If you have Rhino 7, you can use the Quadremesh command to convert the STL to sub-D. and then convert the Sub-D to NURBS using the ToNURBS command. Next, export the NURBS model as STEP or Parasolid.
      Here is the demo video >>
