Two things that really hit me while watching this video. First was watching the interplay between the musicians -- they are absolutely paying attention to each other. Just watch their eyes as they pass messages back and forth. This is how great music is created! Second is just watching Jack as he almost dances to the music. He is an absolute monster, a master of the bass!
Absolute musical wizards. Been tripping to these guys since the late 70's and still a hardcore admirer of their boundless talent. To Jack and Jorma: THANKS FOR THE MUSIC, GUYS!
Jack is such an underrated bassist. During the Quarantine streams, I really came to appreciate how he holds the framework of a song and embellishes it without getting in the way of the other instruments.
Had the honor of attending a Jorma & Jack acoustic show last night (4/16/23) in Skokie, Illinois. A wonderful show! Thank you, gentlemen, for calming this fan’s spirit.
When Jack started up with the first bass line, I got goose bumps! Just think, Jack and Jorma have been friends for what, 70 or 74 or more years now! And other than a couple of breaks, almost 60 years now (or more, with High school bands?? I forget) but damn!!
In this world I'm living in I see the light Sins are gone, now I know what is wrong and right Morning came on slowly pushing back the night It's good times now that I can see the light On this road I'm walking on I see my way Paradise I'm living for each and every day 'Bout the crossroads of the past, nothing more to say It's good times now but we can see our way In this sea I'm moving through, feel my life complete With the one I'm living for time is, oh, so sweet Feeling us together, living in the bright It's good times now, we can see the light In this world I'm living in I see the light Sins are gone, now I know what is wrong and right Morning came on slowly pushing back the night It's good times now that we can see the light
HT were more traditionalist blues guys. JA had the folk-pop angle embodied by Marty Balin, as well as (controversially, for some) the experimental/avant garde angle embodied by Grace Slick, Paul Kantner, and (to a lesser extent) Spencer Dryden. Absolutely possible to like one more than the other.
the Airplane were great,listen to a couple of whole albums there are many gems that never got the airplay of somebody to love+white rabbitt...some great jorma and jack interplay along with 3 other people besides Jorma who could sing
I've heard this song many times and really enjoy this version! Jack plays extremely well and his bass sounds prominent throughout unlike many other times. I will be listening to this more than once for sure!
Was at this show, and from the first count off you'da thought it was Jacks Birthday! He looked like he was having such fun for his Musical Bruh! Even got me one of them Basses In Black and had it made fretless! Today is Jacks Birthday so Happy Birthday Jack! You Da' Man!!
I used to live in Athens from '90 to '94. He lived in Shade, I believe he still does. Jorma would play at the dugout. I had friends that he taught. Those were great shows and good times, though I think it was probably a pain in the ass for him. And now an artist myself, at 52, I get it.
I think that dude bought my Danelectro I sold on Ebay a few years ago. I loved that Guitar form back in the days of palyin in garage bands.70 is old...i'll be there in 12 yrs. Rock on Guys.
Phosphorent Rat it's one of the best albums for me too. Jorma is one of the best guitar player. Lucky you if you can see Hot Tuna or the great Jorma Kaukonen. Cheers SouthernGator. In México it is impossible to see them live. By the way i had all JA and HT Albums. In 1970 when i was "15 year young" i started to buy , listen and collect music. ("Buddy Guy words")
I played in a band back in the 70s we did Hot Hot Tuna and such Tried to play like Jack came close at times in my mind So fine Keep Kikkin So Beautiful so fine
You can get your own "Yikes" t=shirt in the merch store, at least I hope they're still available. I bought two of them; one for me, one for my lady. I wear it to things like dentist appointments.

Chris Michael speaks for hundreds of thousands of fans.
YES ~ INDEED
They are a living national treasure.
Just interviewed Jorma for the Finnish American Reporter. Such a generous soul and what a fine guitarist and all-around human being. Love this song!

Exactly! 😎
Underrated?! You are nuts man!
Always a treat!! My baby sitter used to play their first album when I was 6. Or 1974…
When six was 74? 😅

This video makes me so happy every time I see/hear it. I don't think Hot Tuna is ever NOT at the top of their game...
Just have close your eyes and you are a teenager again. Some of the best musical memories of our lives. Can't we just go back. Kindered souls
Wonderful!
What a gas! Been a rabid jorma&jack since airplane days incl 8 hot tuna& electric hot tuna performances. NEVER gets old!

My longest Concert. 8P.M. -6A.M. New York. Hot F..... Tuna!💞♥️💘❤️
One of the first things I realized when I saw Jorma in Cambridge, MA in the 80's was how cool sacred music can be. Peace
Strange I was never an Airplane or especially a Grace Slick fan but I absolutely love Hot Tuna.
Amazing musicians.
Testify!

These guys are aging pretty well, in every WHICH way. @@calebhernandez681
These unique individuals know they are making history.....the Airplane rocked.....Hot Tuna introduced us to the blues.....
I've heard this song many times and really enjoy this version! Jack plays extremely well and his bass sounds prominent throughout unlike many other times. I will be listening to this more than once for sure!
Vanessa was instrumental in getting us some great seats for the evening. Thanks again @FPR!
these guys just keep it going, they still have that great, gutsy Airplane sound!
A precious Gem, thanks FPR for pulling us through.
This band is is so good! Thanks again!
Damn! Jack's bass tone!!!!
It was Jorma's birthday
Jack's bass cuts thru like thunder. The eyebrows are still workin' too...
Funny I was an Airplane fan from the start. But never realised what Jack was doing till decades later. Fuck that whole band was so talented.
Thanks for this man. These guys kick ass!

Just beautiful.
Some sweet music there, thanks for the post.
Imagine getting to play with these 2.....
Starting with the bass solo at 9:15 in and the rest of the way from there (another 7 minutes) is really another level..
Nice jam !
~~~ *Nice* ~~~~ Thanks for posting !!
Hi jack
One of these days Jack will step up to the microhone, and we will discover why he has let Jorma do the vocals all these years. Maybe like Keef and Mick?
Jorma Kaukonen IS The hardest Guitar Man I know, My father was Jorma too, take that as U got imagine..
And that how its done...
HOT TUNA
Hot Tuna. Your Starkist.
Show Jorma when he's playing lead, not everything but!!!!!!!
From a time when Musicians roamed the earth
For Laura
Yikes!! Typical Jorma understatement that sums it all up.
For some reason, I really think the band liked that take.
For them, just a lil improve.
Is Barry playing an eight string electric mandolin?
From the length of the neck (looking like a regular guitar), probably an electric baritone mandolin~~~
What the hell does that mean zabecki?
Who is the 3rd guy?
Barry Mitterhoff
What’s up with JK’s phrasing
Danelectro 12....hmmm
2uoi
Aflac. quack quack m r too ducks
Great guitar playing, .... but his and lyrics are off from the rest of the beat.
I'm no expert, but I think he always plays "outside the pocket." dunno
HFT
Always so tite
Hot Tuna takes Papa John Crish and they kip his music like robers. Ustedes tomaron aPapa John y no dejaron escucharlo. Hot Tuna es una banda aburrida
