“It feels like hope”…….I literally teared up. I live in the States and things are pretty grim here. You and your mum are a bright and beautiful spot in this world. Thank you for sharing with us.
Alex! My house is in Hollywood, Ca near the famous HOLLYWOOD sign. It is 102 years old. I stripped every door, window, doorframe, window frame and every cupboard door (31 to be exact). I did it exactly like you are doing. I had a cast on my left foot while I was doing all that. I was 20 years younger but I'm glad I did it. I am so proud of the work that you and your mom are doing on your precious antique home.

It's so unrealistic. I love that you show the hard work it takes, as well as the beautiful things. Keeping it real! And you're so lucky to have that beautiful view.

Alex, I know at this point you feel like you will never finish but there will come a day when you look at your room and it's exactly as you envisioned it. Dearest Alex, I am a Soapmaker and have to wear a similar mask to make soap for hours at a stretch. It can definitely irritate your skin and cause spots! I clean my skin with Neutrogena wipes before putting the mask on plus put on a layer of moisturiser- then every time I take it off for more than a few minutes wipe my skin with the wipes AND quickly wipe/clean out the mask. Wash the mask out with warm water and soap after each use and leave to air dry ready for next day. It may seem like a bother but your skin will thank you. You are doing a fantastic job- I’m getting tired just watching you… you are an inspiration to lots of young women and girls out there. Good on you, as they say here in NZ, your bloods worth bottling! Xxx😊
It would be lovely, but only if every last speck of paint was removed, and the wood grain sanded smooth. I think Alex has as much on her plate as she can handle right now.
Such a beautiful place to be privileged to live, not unlike where I live in Canada. When we renovated our house, we did it room by room and I had to strip every door and every door frame, thick oil based paints, many coats probably lead and under it all it had all been sprayed with some kind of gummy sealer way back in the 1950's....a heat gun was the only way to go when I did the stripping in the 1990's. I also stripped the stairs from the main floor to the upstairs as they too had layers and layers of paint....all worth it in the end...
Old house restoration tip: Place the hardware in the crockpot. Cover with water, add a couple of tablespoons of liquid laundry detergent, and turn the heat to medium. Put on the lid and let the contents of the pot cook all night. The next day, the paint will be soft and ready to fall off the metal.
Bless your heart Alex! Love your dedication to getting your room done! I don't believe there's any obstacle that you and your mom can't overcome! I admire you both so much! ❤
Nothing worthwhile is easy, Alex, and I'd guess Gail would agree. But you will be sooo over-the-moon happy when it's all finished. I am a little trepidatious about your colour choices. I hope you choose the lightest green for the walls, to keep the room bright in the winter months. You're doing great work, and I'm enjoying your journey. See you next week. Take care, Alex. :* :)
When I was a kid and we had an old coal fire, to get the old thick paint off hinges, dad would just chuck them on the fire and rake them around for an hour or so and then get them out with tongs. Clean as a whistle!

Hi Alex & Gail. Enjoy your channels a lot. I've done a fair bit of paint stripping by heatgun myself in my day...unfortunately mine turned out to be lead paint & needed professional removal. Two things I wanted to share. 1. Another non-chemical paint removal for stripping hinges/metal findings uses a non-food dedicated crockpot and letting the hot/boiling water soften & remove it. 2. A craft idea that might work for you for your channel and/or for sale - making buttons out of sea/river pottery/glass shards and drilling two button holes in. Don't know if that's of interest to you but would love to see you try it. Might encourage others to do similar...and I'd love to have a set of those myself! Best wishes!!
Just went through this whole stripping, heating, and scraping process. Redid my kitchen cabinets, in my 1950’s house. 6 coats of paint were scraped off, and I lost 5 lbs, in two days!
What a difference it's going to make when you have finished all the painting. And the view from your window, how lovely. You just need a window seat so you can sit with a cup tea and gaze at that picture-perfect scenery. It's absolutely worth all the effort. 👋🦘❤

IHi girls! Love watching your progress Alex! What a tedious process! I’ll give you a hint on your hardware, put it in a crockpot with water in it and “cook” it on low overnight. The paint will just slide right off of your hardware! And if I were you girl ,that wood is so beautiful, I would not paint it! All that work to see the beauty underneath! You would be looking at the same thing the people who built it did! Just a sanding like you said and a coat of something to nourish it, like tung oil. How cozy it would look with your beautiful green walls! You guys take care !
That is looking beautiful such hard work .Alex I used to rescue furniture for my home . My children’s bedroom were priced I finished because I couldn’t afford new but it was worth it. That room is so nice.

I love these videos! Your determination is inspiring, it’s hard to explain how satisfying it is to watch people transform their spaces in real time with real issues. I’m always so sad when the video ends and we have to wait another whole week to see what you do next! How satisfying it will be for you to relax in your room after you’ve fixed it all up the way you want it!
Happy Birthday ALEX 🎉😊 This beautiful Sunday... Wishing your plans go smashing and the countryside springs forth with Jubilation for all your hard Work Go Mudlarking; and old man River or the Tip will give u your Gift!
Hi Alex The window in your bedroom beautiful view I worry about you sitting on window ledge with no safety rail they are no ugly and won't spoil the view you are doing a grand job well done
The hinges, and any painted hardware, put them in an old crock pot with water or vinegar, and let them 'slow cook' for some hours while you're doing something else. The old paint will practically drop off. You might be left with a few specks that a soft metal brushing will take care of.
Lovely home. Liquid paint stripper might damage 300 year old wood anyway. Thank you for sharing...You and your Mom are doing an amazing job bringing the place back...
I would love to have a beautiful window like yours Alex overlooking the countryside. I’d be tempted to have a seat and just admire the view! Thank you for sharing your hard work. It’s paying off! 👍☺️🫶🏻
A little tip regarding removing old screws that seem impossible is to heat them up - which i think you found out by accident... Heating them up makes them expand which in turn cracks any paint, varnish or pine sap. I really felt for you Alex while stripping that paint - I did an entire staircase for my mum many years ago, banister rails, stairs and all, done with a heat gun as you did. It took me a week just to get the paint off! Then of course there was the rubbing down and varnishing with a matt, clear varnish. Well worth the effort in the end though. Your room is going to look beautiful.

What a beautiful view to look out over! I kept expecting a sparrow to fly in through your window as you sat there! 😂💜❤️
The screwdriver that fits the star/cross screw is called a Phillips Head.
Happy Birthday ALEX 🎉😊
This beautiful Sunday...
Wishing your plans go smashing and the countryside springs forth with

Go Mudlarking; and old man River or the Tip will give u your Gift!
Lots of work, but I think well worth the effort, it will look fantastic when done. You are doing an awesome job! 👍🏻😁💕
Hi Alex
The window in your bedroom beautiful view I worry about you sitting on window ledge with no safety rail they are no ugly and won't spoil the view you are doing a grand job well done
I admire your patient and hard work but it also reminds me of why I hate remodeling. 😂
Alex the view is as beautiful as you are💕💕 I love watching the transformation and enjoy your journey with each step.
