I love the audiobooks, especially for the main novels. Marc Thompson has really elevated the era for me. Having a distinct voice to apply to each and every character helps the whole era feel more genuine and alive.
his take on Marchion Ro surprised me the most, i expected him to have a deep evil commander voice but the one he gave him is more menacing in a different way
He's a mixed bag for me. Some of his voices can be a bit grating if I'm honest. Also I've never really been a big fan of narrators trying to do voices for the opposite sex, since nine out of ten times it just sounds...off.
Lucasfilm needs to get Claudia Gray and/ or Charles Soule into the writing room of a show or movie. Those two have been consistently writing the best Star Wars stories in canon
I'm glad I discovered your channel recently, someone I should have been watching for years. You've become a channel where I just have to watch every new video as it comes out.
I love how THR humanizes the Jedi and how much weight that adds to their tragedy and triumph. This era has had far more highs than lows for me. Honestly some of my favorite content since the acquisition.
The arcs of Marchion, Elzar and Bell were the highlights for me. Seeing Marchion from underdog pressured to fullfil a goal he inherited to overconfident ruler who only cares for himself even if he doesn’t realize it, was very unique. Elzar and Bell’s struggles were also very relatable and encouraging.
I love this celebration of Phase One so much! These stories and characters have become some of my favorites and I can't wait to see how it all plays out!
Dude I just started getting into these, so far mainly the comics but as soon as I saw geode I was like hell yeah man this reminds me of how wacky st can be
I went all in on the High Republic and I'm soo happy I did. All of the comics and books. I find it very exciting to be in at the ground level of a new time in the Star Wars universe. I do feel the struggle with all of the varient covers. As far as the books go I was lucky enough to be able to get all three of the Out of Print signed editions. The art work for those is just amazing. Can't wait for more!
Stellan Gios, Reath Silas & Marchion Ro are easily my new favorite Star Wars characters. These books have revived my interest in the brand after being so dissapointed by most movies and tv shows the past year.
I clicked on this and then realized I’ll have to come back to it once I’ve read the last issues of THR, THRA, and Eye of the Storm. I love the High Republic. It’s brought me a lot of joy over this past year.
I seen this video before reading the books I knew what was going to happen but still enjoy the heck out of it I think that goes to show how good these books are
I love absoluteley everything about The High Republic. The characters, locations, species and Legends references. It's one of the best things from Star Wars to ever come out ever in my opinion. I'm excited for Phase 2, though I'm a bit skeptical, but it will be great. Btw: My favourite character is Dr. Uttersond.
@@thebavariansidonithano9050 I think language is incredibly important, and so in cases like this I tend to chip in. Some people get mad, but my hope either way is that it helps improve your use and understanding of this beautiful, complicated language.
Two of my favourite things you didn't mention: 1) The High Republic does more for representation in terms of race, gender and sexualities than anything else in star wars has ever done. 2) Ty Yorrick is the latest version of my favourite Star wars archetype in that she is the effortlessly cool, initially antagonistic lady that is forced to team up with the good guys and proves she can be just as heroic if she needs to be. With that she's stepping in the footsteps of characters like Nightsister Merrin, Resistance's Synara and last but certainly not least Mara Jade.
Also I really enjoyed the jeddha comics arc. The return of the sorcerers of tund, the fallanasi pretty interesting main character with Vildar I enjoyed the hell out of it
For comedic purposes, pretty much. But I’m sure the crew of the Vessel see him move since they live together. And in the HR adventures annual he dances.
Gosh I reeeeeally wish more people in my life would pick up a book! 😆 I LOVE these books and comics and they're my favorite part of Star Wars overall, I liked Star Wars before but when High Republic came out one by one I fell further in love with Star Wars! Now I've read every book, every comic, and watched everything star wars thanks to how much the High Republic made me love the world of Star Wars 🤩 I'm also 25 fanboying about Star Wars in 2022 😂 my dad is like yup been there, done that 😂
I loved the Republic Fair. You could really feel the hope, beauty and majesty of the event and the floating islands. It was devastating for that to be destroyed the way it was, and I can't get the image of Stellan holding a broken Chancelor Soh out of my head.
The high republic is one of the new things I like about the new cannon because I think it works best when we are not dealing with things after the original trilogy I think the new cannon works best with unexplored territory
I love the high republic and I think everything Daniel Jose Older has done is the best of the series. And I think I might be the only person who dislikes Geode *runs away*
Loved the High Republic series though as a UK fan was very disappointed that we didn't get any alternative art covers. As with seemingly all Star Wars media the US gets it all.
Alex, what are the time periods for each of the phases for The High Republic? If Phase 1 is 200 years BBY, Phase 2 is 350 years BBY, is Phase 3 going to be 50 years BBY? Are they releasing it like they did with the Skywalker Saga?
They haven't announced what time period Phase 3 will take place in. Presumably, it will follow up the events of Phase 1, so likely still ~200 years before Phantom Menace, with a likely time jump of a few years (we know Keeve Trennis becomes a Jedi Master, for instance, so some time has to have passed).
Hey, I got my ticket for Star Wars Celebration, and I'm super excited. But I've never been to a con of any kind, and will be going by myself. I'm not sure how to plan for it or how to get involved in the activites. Do you have any suggestions?
I’m not gonna lie I have loved everything that I’ve listened to in The high republic era but the fallen star was pretty dang rough for me. I openly cried with me lost Barryaga. I misspelled it I know but I’ve just heard how it’s pronounced not how it’s written so I apologize. And geode is quickly becoming my favorite character just because I like the idea of A character who appears to be a rock on the surface but as far more than that. I can relate to it on a personal level because even though my eyes don’t work it’s more about what is inside rather than what’s on the outside.
I actually think the Leveller was the tool that Ro used to control one of the Nameless. I don't quite know when I came to that conclusion, but it just seemed like they stopped using "the Leveller" after The Rising Storm in favor of "the Nameless" and "Eaters of the Force."
Shipping is when fans really support a romance between two characters. For instance, a lot of people "shipped" Kylo Ren and Rey after The Last Jedi came out, hoping the two would become a couple. They were somewhat vindicated when The Rise of Skywalker released and included the kiss toward the end. Often times, shippers support a romance between two characters that don't canonically fall in love. But in the two examples Alex mentioned in this video, it's basically canon. Especially with Lula and Zeen, as each character admitted to themselves they were in love with the other (though neither has actually confessed as much yet).
That's one of my thoughts, as well. Pretty sure the Great Progenitor was set free when Starlight Beacon fell. So on top of the Nihil ruling an entire section of space that is literally impassable for the Republic and a "nameless" enemy killing off the greatest of the Jedi, the Drengir are likely wreaking havoc again.
I just realized something where are the republic troopers? I know the republic didn’t have a standing army at that time but you think they had sort of militia.
I'm pretty much still on the fence about what I've seen so far from the High Republic. I think the biggest problem for me is that there are too many characters jostling for main position, so any focus/development gets spread too thin for me to start caring enough about one. Additionally, as someone who actually likes the concept of Silicon based lifeforms (and also an adamant defendant of the Iron Knights) I honestly find Geode pretty lazy, both as a joke and concept. He's basically one of the Ogri from Dr Who (minus the blood sucking) that moves around like a Weeping Angel. He doesn't display any personality, so requires others to do so for our benefit. Other then that he's just utilized as a convenient Deus ex Machina occasionally. Overall I can't say I find anything offensively bad that I won't loose sleep over. It's certainly better thought out then the mess Disney made of the Sequels, but it still hasn't quite engaged me yet.
