    Wow, great job finding all the problems! I feel so bad for that home owner though. She got screwed over from everywhere... Whole home toilet gas powered through the HVAC system, roofing/ducting in terrible shape and abandoned, massive leaks and water saturation in the basement. Everything that could go wrong, did. 😥

    • @andydrew3320
      @andydrew3320 2 года назад +5

      Yeah exactly. This one shade ball wanted 100% payment for a job I needed. I literally just laughed and never spoke with him again. You have to be out of your mind demanding huge payments up front. Little chunks here and there is just fine and acceptable. Always keep some sort of a balance. Otherwise they may go “bye bye” with your hard earned money

      Lol believe it or not, some people are very successful operating that way. If you’re workin on the top 5 percent of homes in your area, this kind of strategy can work🤷🏽‍♂️

    • @daversj
      @daversj Год назад +3

      Recent referrals are the best way to not get scammed. Ask to go look at a recent job and talk to the homeowner. For small jobs i usually ask for 50% up front because materials costs can equal that much of the price. If people balk at that schedule i decline the job. Most price work is split into thirds. Never go with the cheapest price. They either don’t understand the scope of work, do poor work, or will split when the money runs out. Scamming goes both ways. Some homeowners treat contractors like a bank, thinking they can make the last payment when they feel like it. Or hold back thousands for e few nail holes that didn’t get filled. It happens. Quality work isn’t cheap but cheap work that has to be redone is even more expensive. Good luck with your project.

    instead of the silicone, which probably won't stick to dirty flooring and a waxy closet collar. Take another wax ring without horn and mash/melt it into all the cracks. I've sealed lift tanks and flammable waste tanks for monometer testing, works every time.
    The real problem seemed to be the heating return. Was there a panned return in the joist space that the toilet drain went through? Why was there so much negative pressure/vacuum? was the HVAC system changed to eliminate that phenomenon?
    Too funny, I wrote all that before the end of the video and wouldn't you know what he did with that wax... that was funny.

I live in a travel trailer and had to replace my seal under my toilet a few months ago. Long story short one of those toilet bolts actually fell through an opening down below. I had to buy a new bolt. It was horrible trying to fit the toilet on without repeating the same thing and everytime I sit down it wobbles. Your washer and nut trick is going to help me immensely! Wow amazing video guys you guys are entertaining and informative because you dig extremely deep and go into all kinds of mind sets and angles. You listen to your audience. That’s extremely rare. This was incredibly well done and gives a realistic approach from a home owners/buyers perspective. I know you all are obviously not lawyers but I’m wondering if that’s even legal for a homeowner to clearly make visible patches and then not disclose it upon sale of the house to the buyer. Maybe I missed it but was this info not disclosed? That seems extremely sketchy imo. But then again I have no idea

    I'm just asking out for curiosity.
    In the US, is there no requirement to put a vapor barrier between drywall and insulation? Especially for exterior walls and ceilings? I saw a lot of buildings in your videos and there was really almost nowhere built in that glossy vapor barrier foil in the houses. Due to the vapor pressure, the escaping vapor precipitates on the cooled insulation and damages it, so to prevent that, the inside of the buildings must be "airtight", not to let moisture to the insulation. The other question is that I notice from the videos that the wooden frame that makes up the house is not chemically treated against fungi and pests (I see raw-looking wooden structures in the videos) Is there no such legal requirement for the installed timber structure?

    To give back, want to share that I haven't seen you use anything like Rodotrak (florescent powder box for rats to get into) to track rodent whereabouts. It's amazing.

    Never outright trust a contractor (especially in an insurance situation) Always keep a tight watch and account of what your contractor is doing. Often times they will rely on your lack of knowledge to slip things past your radar. As an insurance adjuster I have seen MANY situations where insurance was unable to cover a loss due to poor workmanship and nine times out of ten your contractor will turn you against your insurance company. Sometimes insurance is up to no good but very rarely. Contractors have to have good people skills, but with great power comes great responsibility and people skills turn into silver tongues.

  • @heyallenify

    Are there any tricks to isolating a sewer run where it's below the slab and the only accessible openings are the cleanout and the roof vent?
    I'm chasing an occasional sewer gas odor from one bathroom. I finally broke down and hired a plumber to scope the tub drain since I thought it was the source of the issue. It turned out to have a functional p-trap cast into the slab, which was holding water.
    Looking into the main line from the outside cleanout showed that the house does have a bit of "belly" to the main run just before it clears the walls, but only a little bit of standing water, and old mineral buildup over the years.
