In this guitar lesson I talk about how to sound original on guitar. This is something most guitarists and musicians struggle with. It’s easy to learn other guitarists songs and licks etc… but it can be challenging to know how to have our own unique voice on guitar. Watch this lesson to hear my advice on how you can sound original on guitar and not just a clone of your favorite guitarists.

thanks, I heard this several times this summer at different music experiences. I have been on You Tube and listening to many different musicians, some I like, some not so much. I've been delving into John Prine lately, wow he's amazing! Learning a few of his songs. Thanks !!

I have argued this same point. You cannot know something you don't already know. Paul McCartney himself went to George Martin and said I lifted this from somewhere but can't remember where. "I woke up humming it" " Martin responded, "Let's make it your own". Song? Define; Eleanor Rigby, change the key, tempo and ad orchestration and walla! Harrison, "My Sweet Lord" Lennon, "Come Together". Mick Jagger and Kieth Richards admit they did it. "Stair Way To Heaven" is a classical piece, guess which one? "There is nothing new under the Sun" Kohellets

So where's the barrier of copy rights and you play something similar to an original, but you do know you made it your own,but do to those influences from different genres you sound as something already done by somebody else, example The last case between Ed Sheeran and Marvin Gay,its a very debatable issue for sure, great topic and vídeo
