I remember in a college music appreciation class trying some Cecil and I didn't get it. But now it fits in nicely with those artists you want to listen to when you're "in one of those moods" and you have to vent. Reminds me of sections in tunes like "Triptych: Prayer - Protest - Peace" from "We Insist! - Max Roach's Freedom Now Suite," or Pharoah Sanders, "Creator Has a Master Plan," when they just GO OFF!
Amazing performance obviously but whoever directed or edited this video completely botched it. The rapid cutting between angles works in moments but used this much it's just a distraction. I want to actually be able to focus on watching what the musicians are playing. A lot of live concert broadcasts from the 70s suffer from this problem
I love Eric, Trane and Bird but this is special.

Fabulous footage, great quality and performance, may 3/4 of them rest in peace.
Just superb. Thank you for this...

This is amazing music. The ‘End’;as they used to say
With Jimmy Lyons, Sam Rivers, and ? Andrew Cyrille.
Correct.
This performance should have brought down the Berlin Wall.
Powerful
Fantastic thank you 🙏🎷🎶
Thanks again Jay!
Crazy shit. I love it.
Thanks
yessssssssss
🎺🚀🎺🎺🚀🎺🚀🚀
Fabulous concert recording does anyone have a set list?
Fragments of a Dedication to Duke Ellington 00:00 - 32:10
Really great music. I want to know the players. This playing reminds me of Sun Ra Arkestra
Jimmy Llyons, alto sax - Sam Rivers, tenor sax - Andrew Cyrille, drums

I love Cecil but I have to abort this. The video editor obviously dropped a tab of acid and it's making my head hurt.
Is there a vinyl release of this session?
No, but you can look for the Great Concert of Cecil Taylor triple LP on Prestige which has this band in Paris 1969, worth seeking.
Okay! Thanks for the info! I need a some stuff like this in my collection.@@brotzmannsax
these cuts are so absurd
I love the work of Cecil Taylor but holy this video hard to watch haha
1969? Really?
It must be Sunny Murray on drums and John Gilmore on Tenor.?
Sam Rivers on Tenor and Andrew Cyrille on drums. And of course Jimmy Lyons on Alto
I can go to a ZOO and hear this...... music? I don't think so....
😂
go listen to Kenny G then
You can't, actually. You don't have particularly good ears.
You don’t have to like it butt it’s no barnyard sound. Listen to the first gestures for instance. Exact repetition three times. That’s not random.
@@chrisforbes3352 Cecil's playing is alway very well structured - even too much sometimes...
Must be like this in Vlad Putins head all the time - - - - ! Another cucumber sandwich darling !!!!
