Dota 2 - Model Comparison: 2013 - 2023

- Showcasing the most significant remodels by comparing how these models looked like in 2013 shortly after the official release of Dota 2 to how these models look like now, 10 years later in 2023.
These models were remodeled way before 2023, but I still wanted to showcase the difference between how the heroes looked like in 2013 to how they look like in 2023. All other heroes' models have remained similiar to the ones back in 2013, with there being only minor graphical updates to them, so they are not featured in this video.
Some models were updated/reworked before the official release of Dota 2, such as Sniper, Silencer and Lion.

It can be seen that Enigma wasted no time and managed to pump up. Unfortunately, it is clear that he missed the leg day.
Old dota's graphics felt much easier on the eyes honestly
new dota looks vibrant and too bright, old dota looks dull and soft on the eyes, I think they changed it to more vibrant for readability
U can always turn off that kind of stuff on graphics
Btw you can set the graphics to its minim dude,as i saw a lot of pro players wich use low quality water or whitout animated icon and so on,you're not forced to max graphic settings to play the game
And also you guys are getting old eyes
Old void, sf and viper models are so iconic actually

Yeah the slightly greeny brown skin fits it better
Greenish flesh does feel like he's rotting but the apron ties everything together

By the way, a fun fact for you guys: Eartshaker's second spell - Enchant Totem - still uses his old head model on its icon. Unsee that :D
Dark doto looked much better than colorful doto
aside from some lower quality, the older models look better, more in tune with the early darker murkier dota.
Void, Venomacer and Slardar - got outright worse with new models, Skeleton King changed to sell game in China, but overall characters become uglier to sell arcanes and skins.

@@totomen666 no way that you think old blobfish slardar looked better. Not to mention that current slardar is much more similar to dota allstars slardar model and it was by far superior to any other slardar model.
A lot of models were too much similiar to under license stuff as skeleton king,storm spirit or rly old and ugly af wich had to be updated since the game needs to update itself for its own existance and always have a lot of small patches for fixing bugs/graphic detailes
Also since the game have an international audience so it means even countries with rules wich the game have to respect,china have restrictions about skeletons/blood
@@krzysztofputerko1943i like the old model better. Give the sense of uncanny otherworldly creature. Because they are not human, blobfish makenyou uncomfortable? Good, because hes not gonna please your eyes but bash your head, lmao. Now everything just become pretty or handsome as human standart.
2:01 Dazzle's rework is an interesting one. There was a cosmetic set for Dazzle and community liked it so much eventually made that dazzle's appearance with that cosmetic set.

I believe a lot of changes like these are made to do less work when pushing products to the Chinese market. Skulls, Gore and other display of death is banned in China.
Thing is, when Drow Ranger was remodeled in 2019, it was all of a sudden like out of thin air. One patch released and boom her appearance changed. And no news were published about it too.
Edit: that was Mars update.

@@Prushinthespirit nah bro every race on earth have racial features either it's white, indian, east asian, or black. Hell if you came from African country for example Rwanda, you can define to ethnicities is she from Tutsi or Hutu, or even much detail like which region of Tutsi he came from. It's not accurate but it's just human to define thing by pattern including on human appearance.

Their designs were more bizarre. Lion is also a good example of this. In particular, I think that DOTA 2 could use darker and grotesque designs. With more original and brutal ideas and without so much fanservice.

4:05 Icefrog and Blizzard goes into copyrights fight because of Skeleton King originally belongs to Diablo franchise which is Leoric The Skeleton King. So, Dota was forced to remove Skeleton King from game.. or alter it.
In 2013's winter, Skeleton King was replaced with Wraith King and also Legion Commander was released.
And now SK is back as a skin anyway :D

when skeleton king was changed to wraith king back in the day, the Chinese dota community started to call him "绿翔大帝", which translates to "green shit king". Everybody hated the new design and thought he was so ugly. It was so funny lol.
There should be a mood for people who want to use the old designs, so they consume less resources and allow the player to perform well in the game.

Venomancer and Slardar OG designs were pure nightmare fuel. New designs are huge improvement, but I'd rather keep their previous idea behind their models
