Great video. I love your quote, "History is History". That is so true. I looked up his grandson,

@@Whittdocs John Tyler's grandson Robert Tyler Jones was a Confederate Color Bearer with the Confederate Army of Northern Virginia during Pickett's Charge in the Battle of Gettysburg on July 3, 1863.
As to the division of the Democratic-Republicans Party you mentioned there's a slight inaccuracy. There were three main political parties at the Constitutional Convention the Whig Party, Federalist Party and the Democratic-Republicans Party my ancestors were amongst the Founding Fathers of the United States and were also founding members of the Democratic-Republicans Party.
The fracture to the party began at the Constitutional Convention whereas the Democratic wing refused to adopt the Constitution if it abolished the institution of slavery and the Republican wing refused to adopt the Constitution if it perpetuated slavery. The Federalist Party had there own secret agenda at the time to eventually overthrow the new Constitutional Republic and establish a Monarchy and Nobility House of Lords under the control of the Federalists and attempted to establish Aaron Burr as their King. The Whigs wanting to adopt the Constitution, played Solomon and split the proverbial baby. Stating that under the Bill of Rights whereas those powers not delegated to the Federate are reserved for the people and their respective, sovereign, and independent states let them decide whether to continue or abolish the institution at their discretion; thusly should there be a quorum of a Two Thirds Majority of the states delegating powers of abolishing slavery to the Federate no such measure of infringement upon the state's right to slavery by enacting such laws shall be passed. Reluctantly Democratic-Republicans agreed to the position but this just kicked the can down the road rearing its head again in the election of 1828 between the incumbent president John Quincy Adams who in his bid for a second term made his platform one to abolish slavery garnering support of the Republican wing and the challenger Andrew Jackson vowed to protect slavery garnering Democratic wing support and the vile political insults and mudslinging led to unreconcielable differences between the two wings splitting the party in two creating the Three Rail Party System of the 1st Rail Majority 2nd Rail Minority and Third Rail Lesser Parties we see today.
From 1828-1854 control flip-flopped between Whig and Democrats the Federalist having disbanded over the attempted coup whereas it assimilated into the Democratic Party, the Republican Party and other Third-Rail Parties of the Free Soilers Party, Liberty Party, and the Constitutional Union Party assimilated under the Republican Party banner in 1854. My ancestoral grandfather was twice a candidate for the US Presidency on the Liberty Party Ticket before they assimilated into the Republican Party.
Abraham Lincoln had been a member of the Whig Party prior to joining the Republican Party.

The issue of slavery was settled. The very separate and independent issue of secession, however? Not even close. Some say it was -- but you cannot destroy an idea. Secessionism is alive and well (and often called for), on planet Earth -- and it's certainly not 'dead' in the USA just yet, either. In fact...come to think of it...which empire has ever NOT broken up, eventually?

This was really well done. And I commend you. His is a complex presidency and I think for you to have boiled down the essentials, it was well done.
Something to note: I'm not sure if you've made your way to Sherwood. In Sherwood, there's a plot that was suppose to be his final resting place. Its even marked as such. When he died in Richmond in January, there was a fear regarding the safety of his remains and also Jefferson Davis wanted to make a spectacle of it, and it was those factors that led him to be buried in Hollywood and not at the original designated plot in Sherwood.
Regarding your questions at the end. I've met the grandson Harrison. Also, Tyler's diplomacy is getting a 2nd look and I think when you look at it that way, he was an effective president. He opened China to trade and that's something that's still felt today.

He told me his father was 84 when he was born and then told me his grandfather was 83 when his dad was born. 3 generations covered 229 years of history. I did not know he joined the Confederacy, but to me it wouldn't have made a difference. I don't believe we should have been fighting against each other. History is just the past, and we learn from the past.

You stole my thunder on the living grandson trivia. The vast majority of people don't know that. I didn't even know it until about 5 or 6 years ago when it first made waves in the press and I (according to my old friends) hold the title of MUI.
Similar to a Masters Degree, an MUI is a Master of Useless Information. Those of us that hold the title also take ourselves way too seriously sometimes and have delusions of grandeur.

He may be a traitor but was a mediocre president. Sure he can be too full of himself when he refused to compromise with Congress and push for Texas annexation, he still wasn’t as horrible as James Buchanan was.

  • @ChattyK8676

No, he was not a traitor.
Sure, he believed in the confederacy.
But he was born in the south, he was born in Virginia which was a confederate state.
Not a traitor, but if he was a northerner and believed in the confederacy, then he would be a traitor.

If you judge the greatness of a president by their fidelity to their oath of office to defend the Constitution, then Tyler was one of greatest presidents.

Was this President a traitor? Well...could you not also make the point that the Founding Fathers were traitors as well, to the British empire? It's all a matter of context.

Tyler was too selfish about the Constitution and he pretty much offended both parties, meaning he had a terrible relationship with Congress and both parties. His vetoes and his refusal to compromise did more to hurt him. His fellow Whig Henry Clay formed a rivalry with Tyler, leaving him weak. He can’t be regarded as a hero either because he was technically the only president to commit an act of treason against America when he sided the Confederacy. Tyler was also a flaming racist

    • @keittkatranch5167
      @keittkatranch5167 2 года назад

Sorry, secession isn't treason, if we're then Washington, Jefferson, Franklin, Madison and the other Founders were traitors for seceding from Britain. And to my knowledge he was no more racist than the average American of his day. And his defense of the Constitution held off the big government consolidationists for another 20 years.
