    I was an 74D in 2/75. My advice is you want a better chance of seeing combat, is go to another MOS. But if you want to do this you can still actually do cool stuff if your in a combat unit. You have to take the initiative though and talk to your 1SG and hopefully you can get attached to a platoon and train and go on missions of them. That's what I did and I ended up being one of the best stryker drivers in my company driving under night vision going on missions in the streets of Iraq. I know a few of my fellow CNBRN guys who ended up being gunners and RTO's. YOU have to take the initiative though cause they''ll be too happy to dump you in a support/detail role and keep in the shop if you don't.

    As a 74D ask any questions you have here. I'll answer them as best I can. A lot of what you do will depend on what kind of unit you go to. I didn't go to a chemical company, I went to a line unit and worked the CBRN cage. NBC training isn't prioritized there so I really don't do much. Go for a chemical unit to get your experience in and build a foundation for later success. I just happen to have come in right before a global pandemic and got lots of experience doing disinfecting.

    I made the mistake of being in the MOS. If you end up in a line unit you just get stuck on details all the time. I presented as a competent person so I did end up on some good details at time.
    Out of the blue I started getting RUclips suggestions for these MOS intro clips, today's just happened to be my former MOS. So many other MOS fields to look at if you are interested in the Army. Don't waste your time with this. In my life now I am a civilian career firefighter/HAZMAT tech/Paramedic. This MOS was very little help towards it.
    Look at civil affairs, aviation, intel, 19K, skilled trade. The Army has welders, plumbers and so forth. Consider any of those before this. Don't spend your time sitting in a cage while every person that walks by makes fun of you. I have been out of the Army for years, some time ago I ended up at a bar talking to a chick who happens to be a West Point grad. She asked what my MOS was and I told her, even she started laughing.

    • @jadenr1514
      @jadenr1514 Год назад +5

      Late answer but depends on where they send you. If you're 74D, you'll be the CBRN Specialist of the group. At the end of the day. If war breaks out, you will see combat and you ARE infantry.

    • @Michael-tv8up
      @Michael-tv8up Год назад +1

      @@jadenr1514 If you stay in long enough you'll probably catch a deployment like I did since we get sent to all sorts of units. Will you do CBRN stuff down range? Probably not, I was in S3 filling sand bags for part of my deployment then lucked out and got a slot in the BDOC working with base defence and drones. Got my deployment patch and almost got a CAB but wasn't on shift that night, but at least I got the deployment patch so that's something decent to have. Most of our bases down range have a civilian contractor making 200 plus grand a year that handles all the cbrn detectors and he also has like 4 other jobs too. Everyone gets issued the extra JSLIST and their own promask prior to leaving, so your job is basically non existent down there since the major threats are just suicide drones and random rockets the militia groups obtained from iran, and to a great extent russia. As a 74D you'll either spend your deployment doing something semi-cool like I did, or chilling in S3 doing random tasks like sandbags, maintenance, etc. Or you might get something ultra chill like hanging out in the badging office since most of the bases only have like 2 MP's for the whole base and they need extra help with the admin tasks, you basically just help the MP's, usually a ssg or above and a LT and above when they are gone with giving out vistor passes to people, I did that too for about 2 weeks.

    • @paintedhorse6880
      @paintedhorse6880 Год назад

      Depends on your unit. A 74D can go literally anywhere, but rarely to a CBRN unit. Most of the time you'll be a quartermaster in a different kind of unit and if they do a combat deployment you may go.
