Truely loved this film, and seeing it as a person in my early 20's way back then it set me up for an (almost) lifetime now of reading & enjoying all the great English authors of that era. As a young guy I never forgot the profound moral tale of this movie. One day I'd love to visit this area (from New Zealand) and make a pilgrimage to Kitty Jay's grave - where it all started.

Thank you very much for this video. Just like everyone else, I've loved this film eversince watching it in 1988. We also named our youngest sister Megan because of this movie.

The coward selfish man ruined the loving young lady's life, a very sad story. Thanks for the video.

I am not astonished at all that this for-whatever-reason somewhat obscure film has generated so much feedback on RUclips and elsewhere. Young, single and alone in a big city, I attended the movie only because another movie in the multiplex malfunctioned -- I walked in cold turkey, having no idea what it would be about. I left the place broken down and weeping. Nothing like that has ever happened to me before or since. I read "The Apple Tree" later, and grasped the artistic license that the film-makers had taken. For instance, when "Ashton" came back, the caretaker Jim didn't recognize him.... but Jim told of the "college gentleman" who'd been there with Megan. "We've still got his stuff here, from his walking pack..." One Big-H of a movie, "A Summer Story."

I love this film. I've just acquired a cd of the soundtrack. The farm is on Exmoor, I once walked past it. The thatch roof on the film looked so fake, which it was! I've also walked on the path on Dartmoor that Mr Ashton cycles along. I cycled past Jay's Grave last summer.

Thank you so much for this. It's my favourite film and the music is beautiful. I too had a holiday in Devon, walking from Exford along the bridleway to Lyncombe Farm. I'll never forget it.

    Lyncombe Farm. Been there! ❤️
It was also used as the location for The Return of the Native, starring Clive Owen and Catherine Zeta-Jones. In one scene inside the cottage, if you know what you're looking at, you can see the electric cable for the outside light 🤣🤣🤣

Would love to know the exact location of the roadside burial used in the movie. I assume its somewhere in Exmoor, maybe near the Lyncombe farm?

Hi, Yes I tried to figure out where that was but just couldn't nail it, unfortunately. I would presume the 'grave' itself was a prop but yeah I would love to know where that was filmed.

This would be a lovely addition to any re-release of the film on physical media. I have the Blu-ray release by Scorpion. Barebones, with no subtitles. Great picture and sound quality though.

It is astonishing how it never seems to get any 'airtime, even on the many channels available to us today. Incredibly underrated

The lady went too far, God says no to spiritual, moral sin. For many good reasons.
