LMAO Gotta love the accent in Baltimore, Delaware, Jersey, and PA. As someone who lives in NJ near the Philadelphia area, I hear about Downy Owshin all the time. We all say Wooder, too. 😂😂😂
I wonder who it was that stopped traffic from going over the bridge after the ship sent a Mayday call. This 911 recording would seem to indicated that most first responders in Baltimore didn't know what had happened until they arrived at the scene.
A mayday from a ship goes to the USCG. You heard at 0:07 “harbor rescue alarm” - my guess is that the USCG has a multi agency alarm they can initiate when a ship calls a mayday. At 2:52 dispatch confirms the USCG called it in. MDTA by that point (the HQ is on the East side of the bridge and there is usually a speed unit posted in the West side (you hear them talk about Ft Armistead) of the bridge) has posted vehicles to stop traffic from going onto the bridge. In fact, one of the MDTA police officers was going to drive up to the construction crew to evacuate them, but it was too late and as he was getting in the vehicle to do that the ship strikes the bridge and it collapses. If you can find that audio you can hear the police say in disbelief that the bridge is gone. While we’re listening to this we know what is going to happen but the mayday was called ~2 minutes before the ship struck the bridge. So, for the first few minutes no one knows the bridge collapsed because it hasn’t. Not until 4:44 do you hear Engine 57 say they’re stuck in traffic but the police (MDTA) have told them the bridge is gone. The engine is so far back in traffic they cannot see what happened.
@@mrwhoopee66 YW! MDTA (they’re being referred to as MTA police on this call - it’s an old school reference to when they were part of the Maryland State Police before they became a separate agency focus (mostly) on multi axle vehicles, accident reconstruction, speed traps (😐), and they also do a lot of work in connection with the Port. Their offices are right at the Eastern side of the bridge and have buildings on the eastbound (outer loop) and westbound (inner loop) of 695.
Was on rescue for ten years, great experience but don’t miss it.
Thanks.🌟
Impressive how the initial call was accurate regarding the nature of the emergency
Great radio communication all the way through.
I was on that call
I bet it was intense
Thank you for your service and saving lives. That initial alarm at 0140 is chilling.
Must have been the longest night of your career
I miss riding, especially during times like this.
God bless you 🙏
Fascinating! Thanks for posting.
Is there anymore of the radio traffic???
Inna Wooder is a distant cousin of Downy Owshin.

He'll ya love this good insight
They were all so very calm and that was needed, panicking was not. Such a tragedy, heartbreaking for the 6 lives lost and the ones out of work.
bridge was hit at 1:29, the box didn't got out till 11 Min's later?
Very professional all around.
Sounds like a old radio drama unreal.
Ya it kind of does.
Who is Foxtrot? The air unit?
Baltimore police department aviation units helicopters are called foxtrots.
God bless all, I am praying.

Thanks. I didn't realize that the MDTA was a separate agency.

The bridge collapsed before the audio started. It was dispatched as a vehicle in the water.

If they had not done that MayDay, I’m afraid of what would have happened. 😢
