I jammed this when it came out. Nonstop. I forgot about it My son and his mother were killed in a car accident. I was driving to Arkansas where my son caught his last fish of his 4 year life. This song came on and it made sense to me. Miss you Christian and Jen
Yup. It grabbed me well the first time I heard it. I then forgot almost everything about it except the first few melody lines which kept coming back. I dig the song and like the video, save the messing with the little boy stuff. Like most individuals, I would have edited it differently.
Where have I been? I just heard this song a week ago and have listened to it and their other amazing songs repeatedly. Oh how I am mesmerized by his voice! Their voices!😊
Me too. I am listening to it right now. Broken Bells make some of the best music ever. The kind of music that goes to your soul. It is a perfect mix of melancholic and somehow you could still dance to it haha. I really hope they continue making music, I need them.
Maybe not the best composition in entire history of music... but this song does jam. Don't forget the one's who broke barriers and influenced ..what our music what it is today. You know... Imagine what the Beatles could have done with a digital 16 track and a Triton. lol. Anyway.. Good tune though.
Returning to this song 13 years after it was posted, it's wild that it's been this long. I was still in highschool when this song came out, like 11th grade or something. Now I'm almost 30. Still doesn't feel like it's been that long.
I'm so glad they decided to get together and do this music knowing its not gonna be some popular shit played everywhere, just pumping out melodic masterpieces for the pure love of the game. Legendary
Listened to this on repeat in college into the wee hours of the morning finishing papers due for 8 am class. Just as profoundly, classically good 13 years later! ❤
Discovered this song back when Starbucks gave out free iTunes downloads. This song is timeless, and yet takes me back to a melancholic time in my life. ❤
Danger Mouse is one of the best producers around these days. From Gorillaz, Sparklehorse, Portugal the Man, Gnarls Barkley, to Broken Bells. It doesn't hurt that he is a band member of Broken Bells.
Just discovered this tune and this band a couple days ago, they have the timeless feel of Pink Floyd or Genesis, which is ever so rare to find these days. Absolute ecstasy to hear something new like this which is simultaneously so classic!
My brother used to constantly let me know there are more music available....lmao. Kiss my butt brother!! It makes him mad that I play certain songs over and over
Personally I feel the song is about PTSD, Stress, Suicide. something along those lines. Like the thoughts of someone saturated in depression and desperation to escape and possible acceptance to the outcome. This is what I hear, feel, and get from the lyrics. Clamoring and groveling for the high road we have our eyes set on. - Goldfish
I think you r right about those thoughts. This song has a lot of meaning. The love of my life of 21 years took his own life. Suicide is very painful and hard. This song helps.✌ peace an 💘 love always an forever.C💕B
Cindy Tabor I got on something like that too. The video got me thinking thrse people were in an accident, now their luves appear in snippets along this road, and yes, the words bring suicide to mind. There is just nothing like it to those left behind. I hope you are healing. Some of Chris Cornell's songs might help too.

I heard this song at a Wendys one day like 8 years ago. I could never find it online. One day i remembered it and looked it up and found it. Ive been jamming to it ever since:)
I can see where it could be adjusted into an anthem of sorts. Easier to sing than the current American anthem, that's for sure. Anthems with funk in 'em. I like that idea.
I was born first day of Woodstock , music is my in my blood literally . That said , I listen to , and have heard more music than most . These guys are the modern day bee gees .

"and I don’t know if you're dead or not if you're anyone" I felt those lyrics in my soul. I still come back to them all the time, they have this duality of melancholy and a bit of hopefulness in their sound. I need to get more albums by them.
This song is so deep. I can't begin to say how important the high road is and how hard it is. Every time I hear this song it makes me want to be a better person. It's very deep. I want to hear what this song means to some people. Please leave me a reply. I want to see if people get it.
I still listen to this entire album at least once a day... it motivates me so... still years ahead of their time... thanks for the good vibes Broken Bell's...
I was struggling with some major problems with family, finances, etc. when this song was released in the 2009/2010 time period and it helped me to get through my situation.
Love anything James Mercer does and was overjoyed with the Broken Bells. For some reason this song makes me think of Supertramp. Love it. The outro is gorgeous.
I haven't heard this song since shortly after it was released, but I remember loving the vibe. If I recall, it used to play in our home theater section when I worked at Best Buy. So tonight I'm driving back home on a 10 hour round trip, and I was turned around on a country road due to a fire. Detoured back through a little back woods town, and got to a fork in the road with a high road and a low road, and said to myself "I'm taking the high road!" I then instantly remembered this song after all these years and had to come back for a listen 😁
Dude that's how I found this too, and the funny thing is I'm a huge fan of The Shins but didn't know about Broken Bells, when I heard the song I was like, "why does that voice sound so familiar"
This song evokes such a deep emotional reaction in me...it's a nighttime driving song with somber, nostalgic undertones and it's just...so beautiful. Furthermore, this band is underrated AS HELL, making me even sadder! *I love Broke Bells sm*
I’m so happy I found this song after over a decade. I didn’t know the name of song/artist so I was really lucky! Heard it during a huge crossroads in life. What a masterpiece!!!
aghenry me too! I remember black hole sun got so played out and I was rocking doc Martin's...it feels like I fell asleep and all of a sudden I'm old, that's how fast it went....
Its the year 2011, I remembered this being the first album I bought with my allowance money as a middle school kid. This was before Spotify, I didn’t know who this artists was and what the genre was. Also, I loved the cover. Sadly, It was this and ghostland observatory as the only album that was left in the music department when borders bookstore closed in my neighborhood. I remember putting this album in my CD player and high road and the entire album blew my mind . Honestly loved each part and combination of electronica and indie rock. My favorite early 2010s albums.
When I clicked on this I thought I would be hearing a new song but within the first 5 seconds I got goosebumps all over and a huge wave of nostalgia hit me. I totally forgot about this band and I'm so glad I decided to click this.
Heard this song on a college radio station while driving. Luckily, my car displayed the name. The minute I got home, I was here. I've since listened to every song by BB and love them all...but this one's my favorite.
This song, beautiful vocals, haunting in lyrics, music and video, gives me chills in the best way ❤️ reminds me of walking the dark roads I've been down.
I've been looking for this sog for 10 years and my dad played it in our garage while I was in a deep sleep and was jamming out on it for like 5 days straight
This song was posted almost exactly at the start of the decade, Jan 21, 2010. Now it's December 11th, 2019. Glad I heard this song one last time, before the 2010s are over.
Hi guys, just so you know this song is part of the soundtrack of a movie called Rabbit Hole, it's about a couple recovering from the lost of their child in a car accident, beautifully done. Stars Nicole Kidman and Aaron Eckhart, I say this cause the movie is so sad and beautiful that mad eme look this song up. Maybe if you're listening to the song randomly can watch the movie, it's seriously great.
They just got announced for Firefly Music Festival and I had never heard of them... I listened to them and was very impressed. Then I saw that it was Danger Mouse and James Mercer and was like no wonder they are so good.
