  • In the quiet dawn, as the mist gently caresses the ancient grounds of Aston Hall, a spectral energy stirs. Our parkrun tourism adventures took us to a realm where history and hauntings intertwine. Amongst the whispering trees and in the shadow of this Jacobean masterpiece, lies a tale waiting to be told. But our journey was not merely through the annals of time, but through the pounding heartbeats of those who dare to run the paths of the past. Welcome to Aston Hall parkrun - where every step echoes with the whispers of centuries past, and every stride carries us closer to a spooktacular finish!
    Yes, Aston Hall, is supposedly one of the most haunted houses in England, so we joined the ghosts of parkrunners past, present and future (and also joined by fellow Massey club member Alison, definitely not a ghost!) to enjoy a fabulous parkrun. A very informal commencement as the parkrun tourism community pulled together to ensure the event happened as there's no core team at this event (I won't comment further on that rather challenging situation) but the park is beautiful with great views of the hall, lovely tree-lined avenues and of course a chance to run by the grounds of a famously royally supported football club!
    Post parkrun, we took a walk to the "nearish" Rising Cafe, which had come highly recommended by the parkrun tourism community. It's run by Betel, a Christian charity which offers free life-transforming help to people with drug and alcohol addictions.
    Then Iona and I took a stroll back along the canal to Aston Hall, where our National Trust membership (or the fact that we'd travelled by train) gave us a 50% discount on entry. It's definitely worth a visit, a fascinating history which I share in our video.
    Then just time for a bit of playground play and rating by Iona before catching the train home.

    About Ian, Iona and Family
    ===============================
    Each week on this channel Ian (Dad) and Iona share our little adventure experiences, often joined by Ewan (Iona’s older brother) and Ruth (Mum) too.
    Our weekends often start with parkrun. Iona is on a non-repeat parkrun tourism streak having now visited over 100 different places since she started parkrunning. But we don’t just do parkun and dash home, we love exploring the area and often use bikes and trains for our travels to keep our carbon footprint low and because it adds to the adventure too. When school holidays arrive, longer adventures are possible with Ewan and Iona both being keen cycle tourists and mountain climbers!
    So if you like heading outdoors and your idea of a perfect weekend includes parkrun, climbing a mountain or exploring new places on two wheels then we would love to have you join us on our adventures.
    We’d love it if you subscribed so you can follow our journey and hopefully be inspired to get out the door and have your own little adventures. Do like and leave comments on our videos too on questions you might have or ideas for places to explore or adventures to go on.
