    Hi Jennifer, thanks for your comment. After seeing your video about this fryer, I decided yesterday to buy the fryer at a big discount on tefal. I know that frying is not always in the healthiest way of preparing food, but after a few years of airfryer , it's time for a fryer again 😊 Nothing beats deep fried chips

      totally agree. im very disillusioned with air fryer chips, they are way too bland, and im now going back to deep frying my chips, fresh ones preferably, which is why im splashing out on this fine machine. cant wait to try it out!

    Great review.... just bought one myself....how long after you have finished cooking do you leave the oil to cool before you can drain into lower compartment?.......or can you drain straight away?

    • @LoveFoodFeed
      @LoveFoodFeed  2 года назад +2

      When you have finished cooking and switched off the fryer the manual states "For your safety, the appliance automatically drains all kinds of oils (or fats) (in filtering position) when it is cool enough (approximately 3 hours after the last cooking)." I generally leave it to cool a while before switching it to filter mode, it just seems wise. But it says you can switch it to filter and when it is cool enough the oil will start filtering into the lower compartment by itself. Great question and thanks for watching Lee.

    Tried your method for chips in the Oleoclean......PERFECT! Thanks! Was lucky enough to score fresh shark straight off the boat today too. Batteredand cooked the shark, some scallops and threw in a few potato cakes. Best fish and chips I’ve ever had. I used rice bran oil. The only problem I had was the batter on the shark stuck to the basket. Have you picked up any tips to avoid this? I found I did need to have my temp for chips closer to 180 and higher again for rest of meal. I’m wondering wether Oleoclean machines might vary from machine to machine with temp.The Oleoclean washed up easy enough and no problems refilling machines from oil container. (I’ve read others saying they’ve had it leak or the top come off when pouring oil from container to deep fryer). All good. Thanks again!

    • @LoveFoodFeed
      @LoveFoodFeed  3 года назад +2

      Thanks for watching, I'm glad you liked the chips, my hubby loves them I think maybe he makes them a bit to often 😄. I have never had shark so not many tips from me there. But as to not sticking to the basket, you could try, if your very careful and of course at your own risk, lowering the empty basket and then carefully lowering the fish using tongs this would start frying the batter before it touches the basket and might stop it from sticking. Let me know how you get on!

    • @dee24680
      @dee24680 3 года назад +1

      Did fish and chips again tonight. With basket lowered I wafted the battered fish away from me in the hot oil for a few seconds before letting it go. Definitely solved the batter sticking to the basket problem. Thanks to you, once again the perfect fish and chips. I make a beer batter for the fish and cut a few thin round slices of potato. I dip these rounds in batter and waft gently away from me in hot oil same as I did with fish. If your fella likes the chips, I reckon he would love these potato cakes too. No boiling needed for potato cakes (though I did have them sitting in cold water until I was ready to put them in. I turn up the heat a little too when doing the fish and potato cakes.

      When I did battered potato scallops I found the batter stuck to the basket also. Next time I left the basket aside and dropped straight into the fryer. They sunk to the bottom then floated to the top. Batter didn’t stick to element.
      I have successfully done home made tempura fish bites the same way from a bull shark that we caught..they were awesome.

I bought a Air Frier in my opinion is cleaner and easier to use the filter system is also messy all in all, out of 10 I would give it a 5 at the most. I Do chips 2 or 3 times a week and always choose my air Frier because of cleanlyness and ease of use.....

    High Jennifer, Great review you did here. I just bought this, I have 2 questions, Can the oil dribble through to the plastic container when it's boiling hot or does it need to be cooled down for a few hours. Also, I bought this because it was bigger than my 3 liters one and I have a big family, so I thought I could fill this up to the top of the basket with fries , but it seems that the oil level is going only halfway up the basket, I feel that I need to add at least another liter of oil for this to cook the amount that I need to cook. just need to look at the plastic container when filtering so I don't overflow, I guess.

    • @LoveFoodFeed
      @LoveFoodFeed  2 года назад +2

      Hi Kevin, When you have finished cooking and switched off the fryer the manual states "For your safety, the appliance automatically drains all kinds of oils (or fats) (in filtering position) when it is cool enough (approximately 3 hours after the last cooking)." I generally leave it to cool a while before switching it to filter mode, it just seems wise. But it says you can switch it to filter and when it is cool enough the oil will start filtering into the lower compartment by itself. Also when frying fries they tend to be a larger volume before frying due to water content. Once the frying starts a large amount of water is evaporated and the volume reduces which will submerge more of your fries in the oil. Of course, you should be careful not to overfill the fryer. If you have a lot of mouths to feed you could do 2 loads and keep the first load in your oven at around 100 degrees Celsius just until the second batch is ready to serve. Thanks for watching.

      Hello Jennifer, well by the time you replied I had already ordered mine, and I received it today and have already tried it out. I did read so many negative reviews of it but better judgment on my part came thru. As long as you follow the set up instructions and safety recommendations as told you have no problems. I did do a complete test with water first to check for leaking ect, passed perfect, then went for it and made some perfect fried chicken. As a chef it equals the quality of the commercial fryers I have at work.

    Nice review. Just started looking into a new deep frying setup (been about 10 years, if not longer, since we had a working deep fryer) to replace the relatively small pot that wasn't designed for deep frying which I currently (rarely) use and this one certainly seems like a good affordable option, not sure if I would deep fry often enough to justify it over something more versatile like a wok.
    Those chips looked good though. I noticed when you drained them after the boil a few broke apart, have you tried putting a bit of white vinegar into the water? The acidity helps slow down the breakdown of the pectin in the potato which in turn helps stop them from falling apart, about 1 tablespoon per litre works well where even after a full raging boil for 10 minutes straight none broke apart for me. For the flavour you may be able to sense a vinegar undertone if you focus on it but if you didn't know it was there you most likely wouldn't, and adding some salt and even sugar (or any sweetener, I used a erythritol + monk fruit blend in my last two batches) to the water would more than mask any vinegar flavour. Also have you tried freezing the chips before the second fry? I do my first fry at 200°C for about a minute and then put the chips into the freezer to either completely cool down or ideally freeze, and when ready to cook just pop them back into 200°C oil while frozen for about 3-4 minutes or into my oven at 220°C (fan forced) until they look ready. The idea of freezing them is to make a better interior, I've only done it with more shoestring style chips so far but see no reason why it wouldn't work well for thicker cut ones.

    • @LoveFoodFeed
      @LoveFoodFeed  2 года назад +2

      Thanks so much for watching and your tips. Firstly if you don't fry to often, this fryer is one of the best options if you want to have a deep fryer. As the oil can be stored below which keeps it cleaner and sealed longer, plus all fried debris can be removed and you can store the fryer away all clean for next use. Also have you tried homemade donuts, these are one of the reasons I love having this fryer in the house, here's a link if you want to try out my recipe lovefoodfeed.com/double-glazed-fried-donuts/ . As for your tips on frying, they seem excellent and detailed considering you don't fry to often :). I will be trying out that vinegar tip as I love salt and vinegar on my chips anyway. I have never had erythritol or monk fruit blend in the house but I could use what I have to hand to try that out. Again thanks for the comment.

    Thanks for the review. I understand the instruction manual says to change oil after 10-12 uses, but does anyone know how long you can actually store the oil for? I don’t think I’ll be deep frying so often and you need to use minimum of 2.8l of oil each time, which is A LOT. So I’m still undecided whether to buy it or get a compact version 🤔

    • @LoveFoodFeed
      @LoveFoodFeed  3 года назад +1

      You can Store the used oil in a sealed and light-proof container for up to 3 months. If the oil is clouded or if the oil starts to foam or has a foul odor, taste, or smell, discard it. I got this info from the USDA website. I think the oil compartment under the fryer is great for storing the oil in between uses. I hope this helps

    • @LoveFoodFeed

      No, I believe its a special plastic that doesn't melt within the temperatures that fryer operates. Also the manual indicates that the oil only begins to drain after it has cooled a little. They use heat resistant plastics as it is a very hot device when in use. It seems a bit unnerving at first but it becomes normal quickly.

    Can you wash this blue oil container? Can you open it?

    • @LoveFoodFeed
      @LoveFoodFeed  2 года назад +2

      Yes, you can the Oleoclean blue storage compartment has a removable lid and also a separate twist cap for pouring out the used frying oil.

    For French fries. The fries are cut into slices of 4x6 at 20 mm thick. We never put them in the water. You never precook in water. The idea is to preserve the taste of the product and to prevent the oil from foaming as well as to retain the starch which gives a slight sweet taste. Bon appetit.

      Thanks for the tips Kirth, I will try that on my next lot of fries and let you know how they come out? Do you have pictures of your finished fries? I would love to see them.

    Half the size would have been good as oil is expensive, otherwise I cant fault it.

      Hi John, I'm glad you like the Oleoclean, Tefal do have a smaller option the "Tefal Easy Pro FR333040 Semi-Professional Deep Fryer" ( amzn.to/3yT3CIB ) but it doesn't have all the great features of the Oleoclean pro.

    Just be sure don’t hold it the way she’s holding it or you will get a nasty surprise when you take that cap off the oil box.

      Yes very true always be careful when starting to pour out the oil from the blue oil box as it can leak if you just tip it upside down, and it makes quite a mess 😲

    If only the oil didn't go all over the place when pouring back into the fryer. The lid is loose and oil can come out of every bloody side and ruin your day! Be careful!

    "Crispy and delicious fries". No they're not, they're the wrong sort of potato and a terrible cooking method. That's why there wasn't a sound to be heard when you bit it. They were soggy and mushy and you know they were.

      I note how you have not stayed the well know. Type potato or process for making better chips…

    It’s so false this video, it’s so obvious you been given it from Tefal to review, you didn’t buy it because you needed it.

    • @LoveFoodFeed
      @LoveFoodFeed  3 года назад +5

      Sorry to disappoint Rudi, but it was actually the opposite. We bought it because we needed it(our old fryer nearly electrocuted me) and then before opening it decided it would be an excellent product to review. But if you know how to get Tefal to send me free products let me know, I would be happy to give an honest review on them as well.
