- Newest to the fleet of the North Shore Scenic Railroad at the Lake Superior Railroad Museum in Duluth, Minnesota, is a domecar called the "Puget Sound." This is a video tour of the new car, which came to the property in November of 2022.
The car will eventually be operated on the North Shore Scenic Railroad, which operates in the Summer, Fall, and holiday seasons in Duluth.

I am a member of the Great Northern Railroad Historical Society, my grandpa was a Brakeman for the GN in Willmar, MN. His love for the history of GN has and still is being told to me every time I see him. He sponsored me as a member of GNRHS in 2014. And I’ve been a proud member ever since. I honestly thought the vista domes that were on the GN were all gone. It’s great to see this dome car has survived and is now a part of the North Shore Scenic Railroad and Lake Superior Railroad Museum collection! Thanks for making this video!!
There are several GN short domes left, Grand Canyon has another one.
@@Northwest_Railfan I didn’t know that thank you for telling me!
Now you can tell your gramps that this dome car is still around and at the LSRM-NSSR. She's way different on the inside, but she's still a good old GN dome car.
Great Editing and it was an honor to see it in person can’t wait to get videos of it.
Wow... first glance it looks likely to be in excellent condition - watching through the video, it's great to find it is. This car needs to stay rail worthy for many a year to come. Such a generous gift, the donors should know it will delight many a soul.
James J. Hill was Canadian, born and raised in Guelph Ontario, built the Great Northern Railway. William Cornelius Van Horne was American , born and raised in Joliet Illinois, built the Canadian Pacific Railway. Amazing men for sure.
This museum is the best! They are also very fortunate to have Ken Buehler involved. His professionalism on the videos, based on his media experience, is impeccable! These videos are top-level!!!
Parked at Two Harbors it would be the coolest AirBnb imaginable. A real benefit to the community and a money maker for the railroad.
We are out here in Poulsbo WA, glad to see the Dome car arrive there, there it will be treated like a king
That was a GREAT tour of the "new to the museum" Puget Sound. What a beautiful car!
Holy smokes that is a sweet rebuild. I wish I could afford to own a private car like that.
I love the ambition of the editing and production in this one, you’ve really come a long way since the start. Good sound too. 👍
Thanks for making and sharing this lovely look at the Puget Sound!
Thanks much! The dumb waiter ride was fun to shoot
I am watching this from near the shores of the South Salish Sea, otherwise known as the watery Puget Sound; not all that far from my birth city and terminus of another James J. Hill property, the Northern Pacific (as well as that of the Milwaukee Road) - "The City of Destiny", Grit City, Mighty T-Town, aka Tacoma, Washington USA.
I saw that car riding on the end of the _California Zephyr_ quite a few times. And now I finally get to see what it looks like on the inside. Hope for good things happening on the North Shore.
Great looking car
If I were a billionaire, I'd buy this car and make it my own business car! This car looks amazing! It's a beauty!
Great addition! Looks like it is in absolutely stunning condition!!!
Fantastic car and very generous friends of the museum!
Wow!
What an absolutely great donation! Also a great video production!
Incredible car, and great video!
Another interesting video. Good looking coach for sure. Thankyou for posting.
Merry Christmas
Well one suggestion which I'm sure you guys may have already come up with is to rent it out for special events and private parties which I'm sure would be a big hit with many. Definitely going to look cool in the consist going up and down the North Shore. Guess I have a good reason to come back up there sometime and check it out. Last time I was up there was with the NARCOA guys so need to go back and see the museum again.
Beautiful car Ken. Thanks to the donor. Maybe do some excursions with the 261 group
Another nice addition to the collection. I would love a total restoration to it's original GN interior and exterior...which would mean removing all that ugly fluting.
just passed the great northern railway passenger train in the twin cities. whatre you guys doing down here
This would have been a 48-seat dome coach on the Empire Builder in 1955. I like how the previous owner used artifacts from other passenger cars to make this convincing experience as if it were a dome sleeper. I hope they repaint it back into the Great Northern's signature paint scheme of Omaha Orange and Pullman Green.
