Pianist Adam Birnbaum, who plays with Al Foster, the Village Vanguard Jazz Orchestra, Darcy James Argue's Secret Society, and teaches at SUNY Purchase, shows Jeremy some of his favorite contrapuntal exercises, using the tune "All the Things You Are" as an example. These exercises help an improviser really deeply understand and internalize the harmony.

Love his perspective, understanding, and approach towards improvisation in classical context.
There’s a line between structure/theory and intuition or spontaneity that keeps the music alive. I’m always fascinated by how musicians approach that balance, my favorite teachers do both!
