- Ever wonder what it takes to upgrade a buick 455? Think STAGE 1 is only for Gran Sports, too expensive and difficult? I'm going full STAGE 1 in Carmen Electra before we take her to the @CleetusM burnout competition at Lucas Oil Raceway Park in Indianapolis Indiana!
I'll show you everything it takes to Stage 1 a 455 in your garage at home. This is the cheapest way to do it and get the most bang for your Buick... Buck!

Hey Im late to the party, just found your channel 😁
As for the compression - the 1971 pistons have a deeper dish, the combustion chambers on the '71 are only slightly larger than the 70', so unless you want to replace the pistons with 1970 spec, the only other options to raise compression would be mill the heads, which will work fine as long as you don't go too crazy on the cam as the pistons aren't notched with valve reliefs.
Only thing that didnt look super optimal to me is the 750 cfm carb, as a general rule if you replace the Q-jet carb on the Buick 455 you want at least 800 cfm.

Yeah the 71 pistons are the biggest thing holding the engine back on potential. with a running engine and known bottom end I wanted to see how much we could get out of it. Unfortunately I hurt the bottom end at burnout rivals in indy. I haven't had time to tear into it yet and see what the damage is but it may be time to get flat top pistons and take the engine up to the next level!

@@smokineaglesrodshop Sorry to hear about the bottom end issues, thats never fun. You will still want dished pistons (as the 1970's were) If you use flat tops you will be around 12.5 to 1 😬
I have a 1973 GS Stage 1, it was my 1st car, after I blew it up I rebuilt it with 1970 style Sealed Power forged pistons (I have no Idea If they are still available)

@@jasperlit1345 breaking the bottom end was a real possibility. It stinks but it's not the end of the world. That's what I get for putting a new stage 1 top end on a 50 yr old bottom end. Just gives me an excuse to buy more go fast parts! I've got some big plans in the works for the 455
