as a non-climber can someone with experience please tell me, when ice climbing isn't there a risk with every step that the ice will all sheer off the cliff face and you'll fall? what sort of conditions make the ice the strongest and least likely to crumble away? do you also try and fix yourself to the rock so you are not dependent on the ice for safety? RIP David, Jess and Hansjörg
ice-climbing is always a risk. You can tell before few steps whether the ice won't break or not. Just like you can tell if Sofa or bed will or won't break when you step on it. Ice is strongest when you see rocks or soil under or inside it.

No, there are proper subtitles provided in several languages (not the RUclips auto-translate rubbish), you just need to switch them on.
RUclips pays people to translate videos. So often videos don't have proper subtitles at 1st and they're added later on. "No English subtitles" was from a year ago.
