Great video, Brian! Thank you for answering my question at the end. I was wondering why bloggers or journalists wouldn't just go to the original source.
This is freaking GENIUS. I don't know why I didn't think of it myself because it seems so "common sense". It's exacly like Levi Strauss. He didn't get rich panning for gold, he made a fortune selling supplies to the gold miners.
I am planning to start my SEO journey for my website and starting it with this information provided by you and will comeback with my outcome after few months to share my results. Looking forward to use all your strategy in building my website traffic.
We were having trouble sourcing unique data so we hired a census company to help. Its a bit pricey but worth it bc it allowed us to focus on creacting a nice stats page, coming up with angles and pitching journalists and bloggers.
The problem with this strategy is that (1) most of the time, these stats are hidden behind paid subscriptions., which is why the journalist couldn't get them in the first place. (2) without a high authority blog, the stat you present may not be trusted. which leads the journalist to follow the reference link and probably link to the source ( not you ). Also, you have to get your stats page to rank to really benefit from this strategy. One solution to that could be PPC.
Hi, That is an amazing strategy. Would you mind sharing some websites or tools that you use to get stats from? I am in the digital marketing software niche, but it's really hard to find stats for less popular companies.
Amazing video Brian. One question though, once you find the stat article you want to write about, and produce the content, how do you actually get those links from the journalists and bloggers? Do you still do outreach, or perhaps go to HARRO or something?
Actually this video follows the same principle. RUclips recommended this and I think that all of us watch it entirely several times because it's brilliant. This is structured with a lot of great info and yet is really smooth.
Hey I want to learn HARO link building. From where I could learn it ? I read many articles but it's not enough as I learn about the tools and techniques as well
Thanks, Brian. Do you recommend temporarily buying PPC ads for stat pages until they rank organically? Might take a while for newer sites to rank for these journo queries.
I've never tried that. It depends a lot on the keywords you're bidding on. I kind of imagine the PPC on stat keywords will be cheap. But I could be wrong.
From my experience, if you create truly unique stats, it would rank. I got into a competitive niche and realized there was a stats gap and started writing unique stats and they all rank on page one even above established sites. Mind you it's a brand new site, no backlinks yet. But you have to be ready to put in the work. It takes me upto three days to write these pages because I want to create something truly exceptional and that's helpful to users. When I publish, it's always on page one.
@@iocfaith Nice work. Have you been able to pick up some good links to these pages? Since you're producing unique stats, is there any search volume on the queries you're targeting?
@@marcmcdermott4742 Yea. three local newspapers reached out to me, so far one has actually linked to me (DR 70+), waiting for the rest. It's long tail (inclusive) of the stats keyword so it's ranking for quite a number of searches because I also give in depth analysis on the stats.
Hey Brian, great video. Quick question though. Doesn't this affect your SEO in a negative way in regards to time on page? If someone jumps on a page and gets the answer within a few seconds and clicks out, won't this at the same time hurt the site?
@@MakinMoves Not an expert, but I’d imagine the fact that you’re having so many reputable websites linking back to the target page is more of an indicator that it answers the right questions that bounce rate. Yup, having people land on your page and leaving quickly is bad, but you’re counteracting it with a more important positive signal.
Thanks for the video. However, it is very unclear to me where you actually take these stats from. It looks like you simply take these stats from other sources (websites) and then put the source somewhere in your article. So far so good, but I guess every good journalist would rather state the original source. Also, the way the sources are mentioned in some of the articles that I found on your website, it's very unclear to me which data actually was taken from these other sources and which has not. Like...are all of the key insights at the beginning of the page taken from the sources mentioned later on in the article or maybe just some or? (=SaaS article). Maybe I am missing something...in any case, I would really appreciate it if you could expand on this.
Hi brian. I own a manufacturing company of fitness accessories. Does this stargery work ? I make hybrid type of website manufacturing company in e-commerce format.
Depends on your niche. If there is data available about your topic, you can write your own bot to scrape the related websites for data (look for repeated tables inside contents). for example, if you have a website about vehicles, you can create a bot to get data from automotive websites and create graphs for how many electric vehicles are out there. Or how much is the average price for electric cars.

I do not deny the feasibility of this method, but you cannot get a large number of high-quality backlinks because of this method, if you can also obtain data, it means that others can too, then why does this website not choose a more authoritative website to link instead of your website?
