@Smoothjedi you're welcome to your own definition of stuff. For me, Pay to Win is strictly defined as "player cannot progress without paying" and that is not true here at all
@@RealAsianRobot Not necessarily saying this is the case with this game, but hypothetically if it took six months of daily grinding to get an item for free, and it was available to buy immediately, you don't think that's pay to win to skip all that time? Essentially getting a huge advantage over other players by opening your wallet sure feels like p2w to me.
@@Smoothjedi If it was 6 months sure, but the longest grinds here are mostly ultimate descendants and I have not calculated the hours, but I am doubtful it would be 6 months. That being said, a time-scale cannot be imposed on any form of Pay-to-Win, because then what metric do we decide is 'enough time' to justify something? So yeah, for that reason, I operate on a provable definition. i.e. If I do not spend money, I cannot progress and cannot reach the higher levels of play. Which again, is not the case here. So that's why I stand firmly that this is not Pay-to-Win. Either way, you should try it for yourself and then judge. Lots of folks are having tons of fun for free right now.
@@RealAsianRobot "a time-scale cannot be imposed" Yeah, that's exactly my point and where I was going with the example. The time is irrelevant; skipping a grind, whether it's six days, weeks or months by opening up your wallet is pay to win because by doing so you're getting a significant advantage over those who are not paying. That's the provable, objective definition I'm going by. I understand that people like playing the game for free, but that's irrelevant to the point I'm making. Just because something is p2w doesn't mean that it can't still be fun without paying. I just think it's disingenuous to claim that large grinds that are engineered to make you want to pay to skip them isn't p2w.
@Smoothjedi Well, I will agree to disagree. If you are convinced of your definition then I cannot convince you of mine and that's okay. I choose to stand strictly by what I've said. I maintain that the paint system is way too strict. Yes, 50 cents doesn't sound like a lot, and I can see a bunch of the skins not needing recoloring. However, let's say you really like the color red and want to add it to everything. My understanding is that the helmet/head and body are two separate skins as far as the game is concerned, so that's actually a dollar if you want to add a splash of red to a character. Now lets say that you want to be able to add red to every character. NOW we're talking $1 USD times however many characters you own. Then you gotta consider that the game treats weapons differently with dyes, I believe. Now let's say you want to add some black. Gotta go through that all over again. It may not seem like much at first, but for a dye system it feels like they went for the most nickel and dime way imaginable, compared to a game like Warframe that just sells color pallet sets for $5 to $10 USD (been a while since I last played). What The First Descendant ends up doing, at least in my particular case, is, when normally I would like to experiment and toy around with different color combinations, it just ends up discouraging me from wanting to engage with a cosmetic system in the game entirely. What it feels like is that these developers are used to what MTX models are used in their particular region and are trying to apply it to a game they want to have go global, and I just don't think in the grand scheme of things it's going to go over well. I feel like paints should be game-wide, and ideally be able to buy a "bundle" that is a particular color pallet selection if they are going to go this route. I just feel like, no matter how much some may want to explain how it's "not that bad", the regular player is just going to see this system, consider it greedy, and get turned off from it.
@MechaMan2012 I do agree that the paint system is relatively discouraging. It's one of my big suggestions that I plan on presenting once I'm fully familiarized with the game. @@RealAsianRobot I do appreciate that they got rid of the RNG nature of the paints from the past Beta, so I do have some sliver of hope that, if we're polite and firm, we'll be able to explain that they'd stand to earn more in MTX if they loosen the strictness.
