If you guys have any questions, leave a comment below!
Keyan Houshmand Live you have the wrong DI box, you need an active DI box for passive pickups and a passive DI box for a guitar with active pickups.
Could you list all the used plugins in the description? Thanx! ;-)
@@prognosis77 what? He's using the DI to pad the signal down. He's not looking for a pre-amp as the pickups are already hot.
@@DroneCorpse let me look up the article, in the periphery video you see the active Radial DI box, you have a passive one .
@@DroneCorpse www.musiciansfriend.com/thehub/how-to-choose-the-right-direct-box
holy shit dude it's really impressive how similar they sound
Been trying to figure it out for a while
Dude, they sound indistinguishable in the mix. Stunning work :D
Thanks Daniel! Cheers for tuning in
Agreed 100%
17:25 comparison test
As a Guitarist, who also uses FL Studio, I must say DAMN GOOD!
Thanks dude
Good job buddy and I'm very glad that this once again shows how powerful IR's are. Same IR... get's pretty damn close. Would love to collab on some videos - hit me up!
Thanks Mikko! You're absolutely right, cabs arguably have more of an effect on the tone than the amp head! I'll definitely send you a message on Facebook, would love to collab too!
This really deserves more of a following. I'm always looking for a full explanation cavity search and you gave it to me. Cheers sir.
i hope they find you and give you the opportunity to play with them live or give recognition in any way. I don't think anyone has paid so much attention to details like you, thats a mad level of respect you show them , so props for that man ! Excellent breakdown of the tone, wish more people would explain why they would dial in certain settings instead of saying they just like that setting
Dude, thank you so much for this! 🙏 My Les Paul has vintage style unpotted SDs in her and I have a stock TVL Jazzmaster. I didn't think these tones would be achievable... after watching this, I'm able to dial in tones all across Periphery's discography and it works! 🤩Keep up the fantastic work! 🤜🤛
I am a huge Periphery fan but I come from the 80's/90's metal scene. How they write is intriguing to me especially how they use arpeggios within chord changes. Also how they do scale runs out of the box is refreshing. I wish they would do a how to write like Periphery video or someone would. Atropos and It's Only Smiles has awesome guitar work on each song.
agreed, they write like jazz/classical players which is awesome. I got bored of all the 90/80s power chord stuff.
Amazing work man! That is an incredible tone match.
Keep making videos my guy. I've learnt so much from you. Thank you and godspeed!
Congrats, you really observed a lot and it paid off. Sounds absolutely killer, p3 is probably my favorite album from them and you killed that tone
Its my favourite too!
Your tone has always been dope bro! Thanks for sharing and awesome content as always!
Thanks man, it was fun to make
Exactly what I was looking for. And FL as well! Great stuff!
Insane, really well played and amazing tones. This sounds exactly like Periphery's tone!
Aarrggghhh thanks dude😍 your tone is amazing
Thank you!
This is the coolest dude lesson! You always make good content! Thank you for that! Cool lesson!
Glad you enjoyed it dude!
@@KeyanHoushmandLive You make me get NEURAL DSP
Perfect man, great work!
Finally somebody goes deep down. Thanks for that. I've found my little recipe, but you bring up some great tips. Cheers.
Holy crap dude. You have an impressive set of ears. I seriously hope you consider becoming an audio Engineer and or Producer. I honestly could not hear the difference. Massive thumbs up.
Basically identical in the mix, solo'd I actually preferred yours. Yours retained a little more transient punch which I was a fan of. Well done brother!
Wow the attention to detail is absolutely incredible. I don't even play guitar but I could appreciate the logic at every step since you kinda do similar sorts of things with eq and other effects when touching up vocals in post production but way less complicated lmao
Thanks man! I watch your Peirphery covers all the time, literally watched Satellites yesterday ahahaha
Keyan Houshmand Live ayyyy that’s awesome to hear! If you ever wanna do a guitar / vocal cover let me know!
Will do!
excellent work replicating the tone! The good news a few months later is that ML Sound Lab released pretty the P3 cab with the Mega Djent IR pack! :D
I was at a gig in Manchester in November and I caught Misha’s pick which was actually a Jazz 3 XL. Same mm as yours though.
Thats awesome bro, lucky you
Misha says that he uses a standard tortes .6 now
Finally, someone who understands the awesomeness that is periphery haha. I took 3 weeks doing a cover of "satellites". It was hard, and it isnt perfect, but it was a great project as a homage to periphery. Great work my man. Keep it up.
Thanks for watching dude, glad you enjoyed it
@@KeyanHoushmandLive No problem dude. Have yourself a sub. 🤘
I came in with no idea of how mindblow would I get, holy fuck! This is truly the most technical video I have ever saw. Sub o f course
Thanks so much!
HOLY SHIT! You've got yourself a new subscriber. Wow. Those YT recommendations lately, man. Awesome.
Glad to know the algorithms sent you here dude, thanks for stopping by!
Buddy, I’m a big big Periphery :. fan too. I totally love your contents. You are a great guitar player my brother, Keep up the good spirit mate. Hugs from Canada 🍁
Really close to the original man! Great job. That Fortin Nameless is really amazing. I tried all their sim amps and liked the Nameless the most. Thank you for the hard work and posting this.
Nameless is great, thanks for watching
I started out with that Radial passive DI as well and found out that the guys actually use the radial J48 and after some research it seems that the active DI box actually pairs best with the passive pickups such as the bare knuckles. I picked up the J48 and it gave me a much more even and clean tone going in. Would recommend getting it but I’m sure it’s not really a deal breaker. I was able to use the passive DI with my synths so it wasn’t a huge deal. Great video dude!
Thanks for the insight man, might need to look into it
Wow, amazing job here. Congratulations!
Thanks Marc! Appreciate it
Hey Brother, I don't even know your name yet, but I can truly appreciate your outlook & disposition. From what I can see, your well on your way to exceeding those that have inspired you. There is no doubt in my mind that you will make your dreams come true. I know I didn't even care what your name was & felt compelled to just send my best to you on your journey to your dreams. Thanks, jc
Thanks for the kind words Jeff
amazing, the sound it's almost 100% similar, really impressive, thanks for sharing
Thanks for watching!
Great work! I'm just getting into mixing, so I have absolutely no idea what you're talking about most of the time.
Very cool!!! You nailed it!
Thanks Ronald!
Pretty spot on You might wanna try the same thing with the archetype Plini, since it’s rumored in the forums the gain amp is based on a Friedman BE and HBE
My trial ended on that so I'm not able to do it anymore :(
From memory, it’s just a 5150. The GUI even looks like a 5150, not a Friedman.
Re: picks, Jake uses a 1.0 mm Jazz III Tortex (got one of his in my pocket right now) whereas Misha and Mark have been using thinner Flow picks (.88, I think?) at Nolly's suggestion. His reasoning is that if you pick aggressively but use a thinner pick, the pick will "give" before the string does, causing it to not fluctuate in and out of tune as much. Thinner picks kind of "flow through" the strings instead of needing to be forced through.
That being said, I still primarily play the 1.14 Tortex Jazz IIIs; they just feel the best!
Great video! Thanks for doing this!
I might need to have a look at those flow picks, i use 2mm so maybe it's time for a change up
@@KeyanHoushmandLive once I discovered tortex flow picks I never looked back. They. Are. PERFECT 👌
It depends how you play also. I've adopted more of a Takayoshi Ohmura style these days which uses mostly movement from the thumb and index finger when playing individual notes, so the sharpness actually really matters since you're picking more towards perpendicular to the string rather than parallel. I still use the Jazz 3 XL but I'm tempted to sharpen it up or find something else. Might grab some Dava jazz grips but they're really expensive.
I'm glad RUclips recommended me this video! Thanks for sharing what might have taken you years to learn.
BTW could you share Misha's Axe FX patch you were looking at? The Line 6 Helix Native has the Friedman model, so it'd be interesting to see how that sounds and use the Axe FX patch for reference.
Thanks man, link is in the description for the pdf
Been listening to periphery since 2012, supercharged my guitar inspiration after being bored with the typical 4/4 power chord metal. Definitely my favorite band as well. I always measure my mixes against theirs. They are perfect in every way. \m/
amazing video bro! cheers!
Thanks man!
thank you man great video!!!!
You're welcome
Wow that's pretty close to the original tone, if it was a blind test i wouldn't be able to indentify which one is the original. Good job man!
Thanks dude!
Hell yeah! Great job man.
I have a axe fx and like the nueral dsp tones more, and they are more inspiring.
Thanks dude!
Sell me your axe fx
@@GinkhansiamGuite honestly currently debating about selling it. If I do I'll let you know.
Man you must be Misha's biggest fan. You nailed this video btw, really well done. Did you get a chance to pick up ML Sound Lab's XMAS pack? That had an IR of the cab used on P3 and I've been using it for everything atm
Even though I have two misha sigs, I feel like Mark has influenced me more as a player. Misha is always the face of gear talks though so its not a coincidence that a lot of this was taken from him. I havent had a change to look at that no, which cab was it?
Great video man!
Thanks again Paul! Glad you always find these enjoyable
Beautiful Jackson btw, one of my dream guitars lol
Thanks, they're great
Nice vid man, could you do a video explaining how you go about cutting frequencies you don’t like and how to actually find them? That would be super informative. I subbed btw
Hey man, honestly its mostly up to your ears and just training them to hear whistley frequencies. When you cut them make sure its extremely narrow and don't overdo it. Most of the time they live beteeen the 3.5-4.5k region. Hope that helps.
really well made video and tone on spot, well done mate!
Thanks man!
Outstanding!
Thanks Wes!
Man, this tone sounds the same as the original one, sounds so sick! Can you please do the vid how to PROPERLY record DI tracks? Would be awesome
YOU DID WHAT
I did
Pretty cool man!
Thanks dude
Thanks for the great videos.
Also glad to see you're also using an accessible, quite affordable pair of monitors as well which a LOT of us will have. That paints a very clear picture as well. Whole video was on point, how long did it take to get this down?
It took a couple years of getting everthing gear wise, tone took me a mornings work
your the only guy who does fl tutorials. please do a structure tutorial for modern metal
way in-depth and informative, man! i've also gone crazy over this in the past few years, testing all manner of Marshall JCM models. For the cab, I actually chased the Juggernaut tone by EQ-matching the best cab I could find to the processed tone from a Jugg stem using ozone, and creating an impulse response from that EQ. The result was pretty spot-on
Damn that sounds way more in depth than this ahahahah, great work dude
@@KeyanHoushmandLive honestly I never thought of half the shit here! But definitely agree on the nameless plugin
Just started the video and my jaw has already hit the floor
Thank yoy dude!
Nailed it! Great job, man! 🤘
Thanks dude! Love your content
Thanks for this.
Youre welcome!
GREAT VIDEO. THANK YOU.
i love those picks too, ive been trying the ernie ball picks, but the dunlops are my go to. even though i suck at playing... lol thanks keyan
They're great picks
Same. Dunlop XL picks = XL attack and toan. Love em to bits.
BTW the cab in the nameless is also based on a mesa oversized but with the older original spec UK speakers which I prefer over the newer spec Chinese speakers
A similar tone is definitely achievable with stock cabs but since Misha said that those were the exact ones he used, it would make to use the external cabs instead for this video. Love nameless cab though!
I like to play periphery on a 7 string so i can tune it to drop c and drop a at the same time. Makes learning some songs confusing, but it works.
many thanks for the great explanation! great video! do you mean you can get the sound with the gojira plugin?
You have a very good ears dude
Thanks dude
how to sound like periphery? get the bass tone right, and literally the guitar tone wont even matter ^^
Their bass tone is legendary
Agreed!!
Maxi Schupp The power of Nolly!
Drums ;)
The magic is in Darkglass hardware and in Nolly himself
What?! Another metalhead that uses FL Studio? that is AWESOME! I'm not alone in the universe xD
Great tone!
Hey there, amazing video man! May I ask where did you get this "Axe-Fx Reporter" from (The misha's axe-fx preset pdf at 8:55 ). I was wondering if I can follow similar steps that you took to create tones of other artists' presets as well :)
Good job man, well done! This tone slaps. I have a question but I know it's hard for you to answer, but anyways, I know that the steinberg interface has a problem with high output guitars, I tried one with a guitar with bareknuckles in it and it was clipping AF hahah so I would understand that it's hard for you to compare the signal with the one coming from the radial since you never had a clean signal with the normal interface in the first place, but I would like to know if you noticed big improvements with the radial apart from the headroom. I imagine that it would be less harsh and sizzly and with a more defined low end cause it takes away all the floor noise, grounding issues and all sort of problems that a standard interface would not take care about
Its definitely more "high definition" sounding, thats the best way i can describe it.
@@KeyanHoushmandLive ok got it, thanks :)
Bro......just.......bro!!
Lmfao..... this is so so good!
Wish I could afford an official Misha Jackson!
This is a great video, well edited, very concise, to the point and from what I can tell, sounds official dude.
I've been struggling with my own computer for several months now trying to get new plugins loaded, but I can't extract or unzip em ever since I fucked up and watched porno on this brand new, $3000 pc.
My bad.
My girl was pissed when I told her lol
Think I'm going to have to factory reset it. But I'll lose a bunch, but that's okay.
Once again though, brilliant job. Tone is dope bro...I think you've just about nailed it.
Thanks dude! And sounds like you got yourself into a bit of a dilemma there hahaha hope it works out. Thanks

It's all good. My boy is coming to my house tomorrow, he's an I.T. guy, so I should be good.
So for all you dudes reading this, only watch that shit ON YOUR PHONE!!! Haaahaaaa
Amazing!!!!
Thanks Pierre!
Awesome work, last step could have been a MatchEQ to really get it to 100%
I tried to do it without getting ti that stage, thank you!
Well done.
Thanks man
Great video dude .
Misha uses the 0.73 Dunlop flow picks .. I was able to get 2 picks that he threw at me from their show in Las Vegas . I agree with you on how influential they are because ,I also have his USA juggernaut HT 6 in Laguna Lol
Need to get some of those picks, thanks man!
Keyan Houshmand Live I sent you a photo of the pics on your I.G
Awesome work. What stock Nameless plugin mics would you recommend to use to be close AXEFX IR?
can't believe you're on the same bill as them at Monolith this year!!!! Congrats brother
Thanks dude!
I do too. Bought the precision drive to help her their time though my 6505
Awesome choose sound
Thanks!
Have you had issues at all with how much fizz/fuzz the Nameless gives off? Particularly after letting a palm mute ring out. I'm wondering whether I need to upgrade to a better di box or if there are other ways around the issue.
That's a great video title, I laughed a bit :) well thought!
Thanks glad you enjoyed it
I have the same interface as you. Can you talk a little more about why it doesn't work properly for DI's? And what does the DI box do? Thanks, great video!
The input thst wss coming from my guitar was too hot for the interface, so much so that when I had the gain turned all the way off it was still clipping. A DI box brought down the level of my input so I wouldn't clip
I'd love to be able to reproduce the Oceans Ate Alaska guitar tone *_* great video!
I dont know them well enough but thank you!
Hey Keyan would you mind to record a dry and wet stem of your guitar and share it with us? If find it easier to match tones with those. Awesome video dude really liked it!
killin it
Thanks dude!
Honestly, I put a Juggernaut in the bridge of my Jackson, and that was officially when I sounded the least like Periphery, but improved my own tone leaps and bounds. I'm an amp guy, it's how I did for 18 years, playing in front of a computer screen longer it takes to look at tabs isn't inspirational to me. But I'll definitely say, awesome job there!
Id love to get into the world of amps, thanks for watching man
How crucial is the tape machine and how do you get it? Also, Is that fab filter bundle worth it? I'm also an FL user and was wondering if i might be able to get by with Fruity Parametric 2?
Hi Keyan, i would love to know what program are you using for the plugins.
i really like your videos they are awesome
A NAM model of all this could be really sweet.
I have BOSS GT-100. It have amazing effects, but when playing hi gain it adds allot of noise to the sound. So the simple fix I could do was to make the sound i like on the GT-100 record it along with the DI out in to the DAW, and replicate the GT-100 sound using plugins or change it entierly.
Check out my video on a free guitar tone using plugins! They could be a good option
Pretty damn spot on. I know it defeats the purpose of your vid, but if you were interested in an axe-fx 2 I'm looking to sell. I'm also in Adelaide. Either way keep up the solid work. I've spent the last 6 years kinda like you, chasing tone, but with me it has been Lee Malia's tone from BMTH. Periphery are up there with my faves though. I remember when periphery 2 came out and it blew my mind. Have a good one, cheers. Dean.
I don't have a use for an AXEFX right now unfortunately, thanks though.
@@KeyanHoushmandLive All good, keep up the good content
You think I can use a country man 85 for the low cut? I have one so do I need to buy the radial ?
It would be rad to see how to get Norma Jean’s heavy tones.
Nailed it.... took a snapshot of the Nameless settings too 😂🤘
I encourage you to! Just know that it would need other elements to work
Great tone man. what do you mean that your input was too high for the UR22? do you mean that a clean signal distorts easily? How would you know if it too high?
I was clipping even was the gain was all the way down, it has a little peak light that flashes whenever you exceed the limit if you start to clip
That's awesome, great work! Where did you get the original stems?
You can get them from periphery.net
Literally couldn't tell when you were A-Bing it at the end of the video. 🤯
hi man, i tried to install the axe fx reporter, but the link is down, how did you make it to work?
For Periphery 3 they used the HBE amp on the axe fx, so the Fotin Nameless is a great amp to use to match the tone. Good job man! I gave you a sub!
Thank you 🅱️ucas
Did you use a 6-string on periphery song... what gauge strings and tuning please?
