The interviewer is so good here. He's patient, doesn't butt in or talk over his guest, and if trixie seems stuck on a question he helps her out. So rare to see.
The interviewer does a great job of having Trixie knowledge, but not pandering to her. He's an excellent interviewer. I think people are getting way too used to interviewers who spend the entire time telling the subject how much they worship them.
I'm more than a little amazed that as a middle-aged gay man who was raised by NYC drag queens, I'm witnessing an era where a queen in a hot pink wig is being interviewed seriously by a major mainstream business publication. Let's take a moment to appreciate that little miracle. And for good reason: Tracey is a freakin' mogul.
Attention whore. You’re saying this because this unknown media company paid you. Yes Trixie is great but your post is fake news to promote this so called mainstream media outlet Ive never heard of them until Trixie sat down with them try again loser.
Trixie Mattel is one smart cookie: informed, articulate, quick-witted, funny, interested, always interesting. A terrific interview, helped by an interviewer who asked good questions then shut up, giving his subject the chance to shine.
I'm like genuinely so emotional over the fact that she's acknowledging her lesbian fans like considering how focused on male gays drag tends to be, this really means so much to me idek
@MissDroplette Thank you. I love Bianca but her lesbian jokes are so... tired and unoriginal. Like, this may come as a surprise to many but you can be gay without being misogynist and/or lesbophobic.
@MissDroplette I completely agree. My absolute favourite thing about Trixie is whenever she's talking about gay women it's always so postive and loving and kind. She talks about how loyal they are or how great gay girls are. This one girl had given her a lesbian flag to sign and she'd been so excited, she'd insisted she gets a picture with it immeadiately. It's so nice that in a space like drag where women are constantly being excluded or undermined or like you said made fun of, she's not participating in that.
I knew Katya is a recovering addict but had no idea she was struggling recently & so much that she decided to go to rehab. My heart goes out to her & I see shes back now but I hope she really is doing well. Being an addict is hard but I believe in Katya & hope she does well!
Screw the admittedly hideous lighting this is the best interview I've ever seen in my entire life, not just Trixie but a skilled interviewer who brought out the best in her.
I love a drag queen that is a real gender clown. I've always appretiated that Trixie doesn't try to embody femininity, and instead embodies and mocks feminine stereotypes. She brought that up when talking about her female fan base/pink merch and I stan.
Yea exactly.. uses her man voice.. the overdone over the top face paint style.. the pink.. the PINK.. haha. I love that there are so many styles and subcultures of drag She's fantastic 😁
@Beautiful Irish Read and comprehend. "Female stereotypes" ie: small/narrow nose, defined cheekbones, big lips, high arching eyebrows, long lashes, etc. Now look at Trixie - all of what I mentioned but amped up by 100. This lighting in the video is awful and does not do her make up justice btw.
@Travel Lover women are tired of the stupid stereotypes placed on us by society. So we appreciate a Queen like Trixie who mocks them and exposes how dumb those expectations are. We feel like she sees us which you certainly are not.
I really do think they need to do shows on suicide and other mental illness. As an attempted suicide survivor, I think it would actually be very healing for Trixie and Katya to put a hilarious spin on it. It needs to be talked about and I think they would be the perfect people to approach it without judgement and make an opening perspective.
9:43 "I just saw RuPaul recently and he was like, 'You're doing things no one's ever done, not even me.' And then he said, 'Get the hell out of my house.'"
Even though I am not the biggest Trixie fan, I do love learning more about the man behind the character. Also, I definitely agree with him when comes to putting a stop to the idea that being a drag queen is a result of a bad upbringing, trauma, or neglect.
24:40 -- "If I ever become single again, I can't have anyone over for hookups because I have a pink bedroom full of Barbie Dolls". -- The Pink Barbie Doll
@@rachelnutt596 From my perspective it's more like, how would someone be surprised by a pink room full of Barbies, knowing who she is. She'd have to sink quite some time into finding someone who is unaware of who she is in order for them to be surprised by the state of her house, which I think is mostly pink on the interior judging by her IG Stories. Maybe her current boyfriend didn't know what he was getting into, literally or figuratively, until he walked into her bedroom like "how intense could a giant pink Barbie doll drag queen possibly be about the colour pink or Barbie dolls" --> surprisepikachu.jpg
7:30 never once in my life I have thought that I'd be so proud of a complete stranger's success but here I am, crying, because Trixie has worked so hard and accomplished so much, and she knows it and is proud of herself, and others know it and appreciate it too, and I'm just so happy for her and this makes absolutetely no sense but yeah.
This is one of the best interviews I’ve ever watched. Congrats to you guys and especially Brian/Trixie! You are truly an amazing entertainer/singer/drag queen/anything you want to be! We can really feel it all comes from the heart, can’t wait to see the movie 💕
The mainstreaming of drag is a double edged sword. Drag through the lens of the straight world helps to create acceptance and the queens are recognised as the stars they are but it also means Drag becomes Disneyfied, sanitised and cleaned up for straight sensibilities. So much so that a lot of Drag is basically cross dressing whilst performing at a Kid's Birthday Party. It's the gentrification of culture. Trixie is really good at walking that fine line, her shows are still dark and edgy but she can also garner mainstream appeal. However, it seems like people are turning on her now with the whole racial jokes from the Haters Tour fiasco. It's a shame. The whole thing is a bit of a microcosm of Gay life in general, as we gain more acceptance and gay people lead hetero-normative lives, we kind of have to sacrifice a large part of our culture.
The guy asking questions is so respectful and amazingly good... calm, soft spoken and lets trixie take the centre piece... timid and yet makes the interview so insightful... good job
I’ve always liked Trixie. Since that bearded runway look on S7, idk something about it was so beautiful for me. I’ve watched like every Unnhhh episode and I’ve always liked her as a drag queen. Honestly if they did a 10 part segment on UNHHHH, each episode on mental illness so it can be like anxiety, body dysphoria, depression, suicide ect that would be great. Also someone with a list of mental illnesses I love when people joke about it, not make fun of it but make it lighter because it's so heavy that it's a nice break when people aren't so stoic
Trixie speaks so well, she really does. She actually makes made me cry in this interview. I really love her and Katya and can relate to Katya’s problems in a big way and I just love them both and Trixie is such a good friend and loving to Katya
