"This requires two ships" I've never played or even watched someone play any of the Gradius games, so I feel like I understood very little about what was going on in this run. Somehow, that still didn't stop me from watching this until the credits rolled after 1-ALL... there's something strangely enticing about the minimalist stroytelling this genre often employs. It makes me want to find out what's going to happen later, even though it is often completely irrelevant as it takes a backseat to the gameplay. That said, I really liked the detail of your past movements from Stage 2 being remembered for the final part of the game and had to laugh at your snarky comment. I can tell a lot of effort went into writing the commentary alone. I don't think this game is my cup of tea and probably will never play it, but I still appreciate it very much. Thank you for being so passionate about this genre!
Kaname is not as good as it used to be. I will say though, at least they remember Contra and Castlevania. They've been doing really good with some of their games and releasing compilations of them so we at least we got that
Great information in the description. I'm only starting to get into shoot'em ups but Gradius V so far has been the most fun. It's so hard, even when using save states to ratchet through the hard parts. Gradius V runs really well on my Retroid Pocket 3+ using NetherSX2. I have it running at 1.75x native resolution to max out the 750p screen on the RP3+. It's fun to output this game onto a projector too using the HDMI out on the RP3+. Using a projector makes it a lot easier to see the diamond-shaped bullets.
I never played this game, but that time travel sequence was so cool! I was wondering what was happening there during the early level portion, and it all clicked by the end. Very cool how they reused your gameplay for the lower ship
Thank you youtube algorithm for bringing your vid to me, and oh maaaan, this brings back so much memories. Although I'm no where as good as you, I did managed to complete the game with "Free Play" credits mode, which is unlocked after u spent a lot of time (i forgot how long it needs). Really appreciate the effort you put in for the captions noting down all the pro-tips, just wished I known them a lot sooner to lessen my frustrations last time. Thanks for making a channel dedicated to shmup games, and this is a definite subscribe from me!
This game is RIDICULOUSLY hard, especially in later loops. Even the best players couldn't get it to max difficulty (loop 10), the furthest a human got is Stage 6-2 by PEG (he got WTFraped by Stage 5-2).
At least the pilot had a reason to do that. If he failed, then it could have an effect on the whole space time continuum and presumably change history forever. It was to put an end to the Bacterian invasion once and for all. Or at least in the case of this game. If only we have an followup to this game that could wrap up the series as a whole.
@@nunyabusiness9056 I mean if you liked it more power to ya, but imo both this game and its precursor fell way short of the quality of all that came before it. The stages I did play in F2 had no interesting gameplay, music, or unique set pieces to make me want to replay them a billion times to unlock all the ships. If I were to liken an Rtype to pearls it would be 3 or delta, definitely not this one
@@LoppinLazy Lol the gameplay is literally exactly like every r-type. I'ts also funny because delta is the one it's most compared to among r-type fans.
I don't know whether I should get this or the Gradius Collection, but your gameplay is awesome! I haven't seen other players using the ripple laser often, but you put them in pretty good use.
Nice run! Did you use a Dualshock for this? One of my frustrrations with this game was it always felt like you needed a Dualshock due to moving the multiples.

I just laughed out loud reading this comment. Thank you.
We've been years without a good follow up. I'm very disappointed in Konami.

Damn this game is so well-presented. Such a cool, clean style to everything.

I found the game to be all memorization. Once you unlock unlimited continues it's EASY to playthrough - you just may not have a good high score.
The pilot created the space time anomaly. The pilot is responsible for bringing the alien ship to Gradius orbit.
Love your take. Gradius is one of the very few shmups where I actually care about the story. What is your opinion on the R -Type story?

If only R-Type Final had gameplay as good as this
R-type final 2 baby. Definitely a huge improvement. I highly recommend it.
@@nunyabusiness9056 Played it for an hour and refunded it, was every bit as lifeless and boring as I was hoping it wouldn't be

I already got both months ago.
I don't know how but I beat this game for about 10 years on normal difficulty. It was damn hard.
Once you played the game enough to unlock unlimited continues, you can breeze through it.
Nice. Just in time for my bedtime watch. Keep em coming jaimers ✌
Actually, there are checkpoints in this game via Revival Point(?) in options solely for the purists, like Seahawk (respect).
Favorite PS2 game, man...
Which pcsx2 GS settings have you used?
why is horoscope a category in the high score charts lol
Treasure games strikes back!
Were Treasure behind it? Looks very stylish: like Ikaruga 😊😊😊
@@edsstokes Radiant Silvergun is another one.
Quite entertaining clear.
Do you think this could run on switch?

I used an original Sega Saturn pad for this.
Why not taking the 4th option (multiple) in the first stage ??
To manipulate when the option hunter appears.
@JaimersSTG Thanks 👍
Jaimers, when are you going to play Battle Garegga?
I already did though?

Oh shit...I forgot somehow...
Well....what about Batrider, or Bakraid?
A PS2 game ? Wow.
