Their best album IMO. Their big concept albums like DSOTM were not for me. Of course DSOTM was the number one selling album for God knows how long and I guess that it is a master piece but my heart lies with the more experimental stuff.

Interesting Agree your top 5 as most fans would I’d think First Floyd album I listened to was Wish You Were Here, and it has a never wavered in my top spot although it’s a tough as the top three albums as all are wonderful 1. Wish You Were Here 2. Dark Side of the Moon 3. Animals 4. Meddle 5. The Wall In my view these cemented the band as one of the best and the 70’s very much their golden period musically Nice run down
Interesting takes me right back to my 1970s youth, reading music papers, listening to Wish You Were Here in 75 and wondering why they slated it compared to Dark Side, and buying The Wall the day it came out after hearing it on a late night radio show the night before. The Wall has been my top Floyd album for a long time now and they are my favourite band, but it’s flexible - I listened to Animals in the last week and yep; it’s great!
I watched your King Crimson, Genesis, and now Pink Floyd video. All these bands were a big part of my teenage years. Interesting in that our tastes in King Crimson are very close and there is a lot less alignment with Pink Floyd. My list below and note I never heard one of their albums past The Wall and I don't own Atom Heart Mother. Also, this list relates to my tastes not what I conceptually think is great. For instance, The Wall is a spectacular album but I never connected with dramatic Rodger Waters music. 1. The Piper (second is a good leap away) 2. Meddle (2, 3, 4 are a close 2nd) 3. Wish you were here 4. Dark Side 5. Obscured by Clouds 6. Umma 7. Animals 8. Saucerful 9. The Wall Great music.

I realise the placement of Ummagumma at Number 6 in my ranking is pretty controversial as Ummagumma is lucky to be in the Top Ten at all, let alone the Top 12 in most Pink Floyd ranknigs. However the album has strangely grown on me. I think it's impossible to love Ummagumma right off the bat

My personal rankings: Bottom four - The Final Cut (six of the thirteen tracks on this belonged on The Wall, but there's an excellent 25 minutes of material - Not Now John is a real belter), Momentary Lapse Of Reason, Division Bell and Endless River (Pink Floyd without Roger Waters isn't the same, sorry) Not concrete - Piper At The Gates Of Dawn (I recommend you hear the full 17 minute version of Interstellar), More (some pretty heavy stuff: David Gilmour could have even done heavy metal), Ummagamma, Obscured By Clouds, Atom Heart Mother, Meddle, Echoes Best five - Saucerful Of Secrets, Dark Side Of The Moon, Wish You Were Here, Animals, The Wall
I totally agree with you that Floyd without Roger Waters isn't the same at all. I also don't think Saucerful of Secrets gets the credit it's due. One of my favs of their early period!

For me, the later albums Final Cut, Endless River and A Momentary Lapse of Reason are definitely less strong than anything else ingeniously came out from the most amazing prog-band of all times worldwide, the breathtaking PINK FLOYD... These three efforts are not only secondary compared to all the other albums, but rather weak in an objective way...

For me, The Wall, Dark, Wish, Animals all number 1 for me. These are Collosals master pieces, not only for Pink Floyd, are master pieces in the history of popular music. All different, all great, all collosal we are talking about milestones of the music history.
I still remember the first time I heard Dark Side of the Moon. I too have a hard time picking a favorite out of your top three. They're all number ones.

I personally like Meddle more, I rank that up there as a 10/10. And More has a lot of great songs. Cirrus Minor, Crying Song, The Nile Song, Ibiza Bar, Green is The Colour, Main Theme, and Cymballine, Cymballine is amazing.
Interesting choices. Here's mine: 15. Ummagumma (the only Floyd album I can't sit through all the way) 14. More (not bad but could have been better, and the ending track is terrible imo) 13. The Endless River (a little bland but a nice tribute to an underrated band member) 12. Momentary Lapse of Reason (a few great songs surrounded by ok ones) 11.The Final Cut (a pretty good record although sounds like a beta version of The Wall at times) 10. Obscured by Clouds (a very good soundtrack record, a big improvement over More). 9. The Division Bell (A cute sendoff album with an amazing final song) 8. Piper at the Gates of Dawn (a very good start and interesting to listen to with the context of later albums) 7. Atom Heart Mother (a great album with an amazing first song) 6. Saucerful of Secrets (was lower than Piper, but the songs here are more unique and creepy, and jugband blues is a somber masterpiece) 5. Darkside of the Moon (a perfect album, but I prefer the other four) 4. Wish you were here (gets better with every listen, another masterpiece) 3. The Wall (a perfect rock opera with an amazing film, however not my favorite) 2. Meddle (underrated and fantastic all the way through) 1. Animals (the record that made me a floyd fan)
I agree on Animals and WYWH being better than DSOTM. I like all songs on those two albums but im not a fan of some songs on DSOTM like Brain Damage and Great gig in the sky

What in rhe world qualifies Pink Floyd as being in the progressive rock category? They are basically a rock band. Their music is not especially intricate (think Yes or King Crimson.) They do have lengthly themes but you will not hear twenty minute flute solos and so forth. Trippy-yes/ Prog-no.

Syd Barret had very interesting songs but in my opinion none of it compares in terms of instrumentation and musicality to Atom Heart Mother. The Atom Heart Mother Suite is an absolute masterpiece, and then the legendary Gilmour solo on Fat Old Sun. David Gilmour is the best guitarist of all time in my opinion, and anything he touches becomes infinitely better.

But first, my list: Pipe at the gates of dawn - Songs from a different band that havent aged well Ummagumma - Pieces of this are good, but I can't listen to it straight More A Saucerful of Secrets - Some great tracks. Some leftover Piper-type trash. Atom Heart Mother - I even forgot this one when I wrote the list. Obscured by Clouds - Way better than most soundtracks deserve to be Meddle - Echoes is amazing. Most of the rest is filler... but Echoes.... The Division Bell - A great album that just falls short. A Momentry Lapse of Reason - I find this album is one that I put on a lot. Maybe nostalgia. Dark Side of the Moon - Dont get me wrong, its amazing. But, maybe Ive heard it too many times. Wish you were Here The Final Cut - This is the album I grew up listening to. I cant help loving it. Animals - This is the album I listen to the most The Wall - A masterpiece Roger Waters solo album ;) I dont know where the Endless River belongs.... I would rather listen to Broken China or On an Island that sift through these bits and pieces.

First Floyd album I listened to was Wish You Were Here, and it has a never wavered in my top spot although it’s a tough as the top three albums as all are wonderful

In my view these cemented the band as one of the best and the 70’s very much their golden period musically

Interesting takes me right back to my 1970s youth, reading music papers, listening to Wish You Were Here in 75 and wondering why they slated it compared to Dark Side, and buying The Wall the day it came out after hearing it on a late night radio show the night before. The Wall has been my top Floyd album for a long time now and they are my favourite band, but it’s flexible - I listened to Animals in the last week and yep; it’s great!
I watched your King Crimson, Genesis, and now Pink Floyd video. All these bands were a big part of my teenage years.
Interesting in that our tastes in King Crimson are very close and there is a lot less alignment with Pink Floyd. My list below and note I never heard one of their albums past The Wall and I don't own Atom Heart Mother. Also, this list relates to my tastes not what I conceptually think is great. For instance, The Wall is a spectacular album but I never connected with dramatic Rodger Waters music.

I realise the placement of Ummagumma at Number 6 in my ranking is pretty controversial as Ummagumma is lucky to be in the Top Ten at all, let alone the Top 12 in most Pink Floyd ranknigs. However the album has strangely grown on me. I think it's impossible to love Ummagumma right off the bat

Bottom four - The Final Cut (six of the thirteen tracks on this belonged on The Wall, but there's an excellent 25 minutes of material - Not Now John is a real belter), Momentary Lapse Of Reason, Division Bell and Endless River (Pink Floyd without Roger Waters isn't the same, sorry)
Not concrete - Piper At The Gates Of Dawn (I recommend you hear the full 17 minute version of Interstellar), More (some pretty heavy stuff: David Gilmour could have even done heavy metal), Ummagamma, Obscured By Clouds, Atom Heart Mother, Meddle, Echoes
Best five - Saucerful Of Secrets, Dark Side Of The Moon, Wish You Were Here, Animals, The Wall
I totally agree with you that Floyd without Roger Waters isn't the same at all. I also don't think Saucerful of Secrets gets the credit it's due. One of my favs of their early period!
@@Starman-zi9tl Saucerful Of Secrets is quite a jam: Set the Controls For The Heart of The Sun, Corporal Clegg, title track and Jugband Blues are worth the price of admission alone.

For me, the later albums Final Cut, Endless River and A Momentary Lapse of Reason are definitely less strong than anything else ingeniously came out from the most amazing prog-band of all times worldwide, the breathtaking PINK FLOYD... These three efforts are not only secondary compared to all the other albums, but rather weak in an objective way...

For me, The Wall, Dark, Wish, Animals all number 1 for me. These are Collosals master pieces, not only for Pink Floyd, are master pieces in the history of popular music. All different, all great, all collosal we are talking about milestones of the music history.

Cirrus Minor, Crying Song, The Nile Song, Ibiza Bar, Green is The Colour, Main Theme, and Cymballine, Cymballine is amazing.
The first four are in reverse chronological order.

Interesting choices. Here's mine:
15. Ummagumma (the only Floyd album I can't sit through all the way)
14. More (not bad but could have been better, and the ending track is terrible imo)
13. The Endless River (a little bland but a nice tribute to an underrated band member)
12. Momentary Lapse of Reason (a few great songs surrounded by ok ones)
11.The Final Cut (a pretty good record although sounds like a beta version of The Wall at times)
10. Obscured by Clouds (a very good soundtrack record, a big improvement over More).
9. The Division Bell (A cute sendoff album with an amazing final song)
8. Piper at the Gates of Dawn (a very good start and interesting to listen to with the context of later albums)
7. Atom Heart Mother (a great album with an amazing first song)
6. Saucerful of Secrets (was lower than Piper, but the songs here are more unique and creepy, and jugband blues is a somber masterpiece)
5. Darkside of the Moon (a perfect album, but I prefer the other four)
4. Wish you were here (gets better with every listen, another masterpiece)
3. The Wall (a perfect rock opera with an amazing film, however not my favorite)
2. Meddle (underrated and fantastic all the way through)

It is far far superior to everything else PF put out.
I totally respect that! It should be noted that even though I didn't rank it high, I still really enjoy it.
I agree on Animals and WYWH being better than DSOTM. I like all songs on those two albums but im not a fan of some songs on DSOTM like Brain Damage and Great gig in the sky

Man this is a tough one. Feel like you almost have to separate Piper from the rest and then immediately put all post-Waters record in some order last!
What in rhe world qualifies Pink Floyd as being in the progressive rock category? They are basically a rock band. Their music is not especially intricate (think Yes or King Crimson.) They do have lengthly themes but you will not hear twenty minute flute solos and so forth. Trippy-yes/ Prog-no.

Syd Barret had very interesting songs but in my opinion none of it compares in terms of instrumentation and musicality to Atom Heart Mother. The Atom Heart Mother Suite is an absolute masterpiece, and then the legendary Gilmour solo on Fat Old Sun. David Gilmour is the best guitarist of all time in my opinion, and anything he touches becomes infinitely better.
