How to build a simple 4 'x 8' storage shed under $380 dollars

  • DIY affordable storage shed, build your shed under $380 dollars, this storage shed was built with minimum wood and materials, it is a strong solid shed that will last for many years. It is recommended to raise the subfloor framing so that it does not touch the ground, I didn't want to obstruct my window, that is why I had to dig a little bit to build the subfloor below ground level, pressure treated wood will last many years, however, you should raise the structure above ground level using your concrete step stones. The total cost of this project was $374.29 before taxes.

    So many of these "shed" project vids turn out to be $10K broom closets with guys working w a freaking pro-shop stuffed with all kinds of equipment because they're really just promotional videos for Home Depot or are sponsored by a green tool company. This is the best real-life (cost in mind) actual shed vid I've seen. Awesome stuff.

    Well I have 2 complaints, the first is that you dug it below grade, making for a place for water to gather and rot your floor. Second the pitch of the roof is very slight and in a heavy rain storm water will back fill and hit that window and back wall and run between the house and shed rotting that back wall. Otherwise I like the build, it is simple and easy to do, makes for a great storage place for gardening tools and stuff you need to store away for winter. I hope you take my complaints as constructive criticism, in hope to do it better in the future. I like that you added vents with a smaller mesh screen to keep bugs out and let hot air out of the shed. I also like how you did the roof, over all its a great build and design. So good job.

    • @NumberDZ
      @NumberDZ  Год назад +56

      The base framing is below grade, however, there's good slope around it, the water does not pool in that area, it flows away from it.
      The roof pitch may not be visible in the video, however, in person you can clearly see that the front section is lower compared to the back, the rain water drains perfectly fine towards the front, we have had heavy rain and no water goes towards the back wall.
      Thanks for your feedback 👍 don't forget to subscribe.

    Comming from a seasoned framer, well done.
    That was extremely efficient build even for a 4x8 , I don't know that the blocking was structurally necessary but definitely Dosent hurt and will be handy for utility inside ike hanging hooks, brackets etc. my only I Guess 'critique' is why you doubled up the stud on the front wall facing the backyard, I mean I get why you did it, so that that side of the door is 3½" finished instead of just 2" and my thought was that you may add a door latch later and you wanted some more meat for it however with just a lock hasp it probably isn't necessary but it does look better, what I would have done is rather than double that corner I would have made it an an outside facing L because you'd use the same amount of lumber but that outside corner would be even more substantial, instead of a finished 3½" it would have been a finished 5". Small thing mostly a matter of preference at that point it's not as if the price of one 2*4 makes a real difference so I can see why you wouldn't just put a single there.

    The life of the back wall would probably be extended significantly if you prepainted before installing it. Even in Cali, stuff will blow in there, and some moisture will accumulate and rot it. A couple coats of paint is easy insurance on a $400 investment.
    I’d also add a 2x4 to the middle of each sheet. $20 seems worth the extra durability.

    You must live in a dryer warmer area. This would not work where I live. First, needs more drainage under the shed. Secondly, not nearly enough pitch to the roof. Lastly, the fiberglass roof is not sufficient for snow loads. Otherwise it's fine considering the price and care to detail used in building your lean to shed.

    Newbie here so please be kind. Why it is necessary to stack 2 pieces of 2x4’s on the top of the walls? Thanks

    excellent video. Very informative. I need an outdoor shed so I plan to pretty much replicate what you have here. I do, however, have a few concerns. I'm in FL so we get a ton of rain daily from June to Sept. It is also almost 95 degrees for 4 months. The location I have selected will get little direct sun light but fully exposure to the rain.
    How will the OSB holdup in the long run? Will painting prevent rot? How about a rubberized coating? Something like LIQUID RUBBER?

    Wow, looks so nice for less than $400 shed. What kind of material for the roof, metal?

      Thanks, it's plastic.

    Is the paint waterproofing? Or would the plywood be fine in the rain anyways?

  • @WilfridoVasquezJr

    What paint did you use?

    Why did you use OSB instead of plywood? That was a mistake due to susceptibility to moisture. Seal it real good on the inside too!

    • @kikerules
      @kikerules Год назад +1

      Probably price (osb cheaper) is it possible for the paint to seal osb(waterproof and humidity proof it)? I guess the idea is something not expensive and not forever (I can deal with spending $400 and replacing it maybe after 10 years )

    Good video, but I have a question: if the front of the shed is lower than the back, how is it possible that the boards covering the front weren't cut in height?

    • @NumberDZ
      @NumberDZ  3 месяца назад +1

      I did cut them.

    How has that OSB held up? I'm sure in my part of the country it would be rotten within a year.
