I worked at a bakery that mass produced cakes and it's true they are not baked daily. Most store bought cakes are weeks sometimes months old. Those cakes have a lot of preservatives and simple syrup to keep them tasting fresh.
@@Actionnelll This. Your cake is never "fresh" unless it's from a very relatively mid/high-end bakery. When the Cake Boss Vending Machine was placed at Yorkdale - no word of a lie, people standing in queue everyday. I literally seen someone spend over 80 dollars on cake slices.
Nobody said that the cake vending machine was Carlos's idea, in fact, it is really genius that he decided to put those machines around the world knowing the fame of his pastry and how people would pay 10 dollars to try a slice of his cake.
As a pastry chef, I SO appreciate y'all saying "Its a lot of work to mix the different batches of cake" when referring to the rainbow cake. The slices have gotten smaller and are about half the width of those in the video. I bought a whole cake when they were sold frozen in grocery stores. It wasn't an outrageous cost for 6-7 slice cake, but was nearly 3 times the cost of a supermarket bakery cake. It was a novelty, but nothing I would specifically search out. The rainbow cake slices don't taste differently. It's just food coloring. While I can appreciate a baker's time and effort into making multilayer cakes, these are mass produced in a factory. That's not the same as when I order a handmade 8-9" seven layer cake from an independent bakery and pay upwards of $85 because of the time involved and quality ingredients. The cakes in the video are more on par with bakeries in grocery chains, imho.

Just subscribed to your channel after viewing this video! I loved your honesty about the different cake slices you tried! No BS, just straight up honesty... (I’ve had some of Buddy’s cakes and find them to be SUPER sweet, way too much sugar!) And I also loved your take on the slice you liked most...which was the Red Velvet, that I’m guessing had a cream cheese frosting, which is why the flavor was better. Oh, and I loved the “Taco meat” comment about the Rainbow slice! 🤣 Plus, I also saw your follow-up video to this one, where you went back to try the Chocolate Fudge, Strawberry Rainbow and Oh Canada cake flavors. Just read a comment here about the opinion of the neighbours of that bakery and they are right! We were visiting relatives in Brooklyn and I told them I was dying to go to Carlo’s and their eyes bugged out! They said it was just because of the show that they got popular. They took me to an Italian bakery in Brooklyn, the name escapes me years later, signs everywhere that photos were not permitted. Long wait to be served, very high prices, and a feast for the eye. My cous bought two big boxes of pastries, one we ate at home, the other was for us to bring back to TO. 🥰 My daughter took a look at the giant lobster tail and the rest and just about died from presentation alone. Even La Sam, in it’s hey day in the 60s-70s didn’t come close to the amazing taste. Everything was amazing...we cut up everything so that everyone could taste all the goodies...

$10! If it were $5 maybe but not $10 per slice, you can buy 1-2 cakes for those 3 slices
