  • The Labour Leader Sir Keir Starmer has announced that Labour will spend nearly two billion pounds on upgrading Britain's ports. The money would come in part from his planned increase in the windfall tax on oil and gas companies.

Close tax loopholes, increase taxes on the rich, abolish non dom status, prosecute and fine tax dodging corporates like Apple, Amazon and Google with double what they've avoided paying. Renationalise utilities, especially water. Windfall tax on oil and gas companies. End 'charitable status' tax dodging by wealthy private schools.
That'll be a start, Kier, try it.

I don’t think raising taxes on the rich is right, the top 1% already contribute 40% of tax receipts. Just get them to pay their fair share instead of siphoning it offshore and exploring loopholes. That would be fair.

It's pure lies that they contribute 40%. They have every means of avoiding tax because they don't earn incomes like the rest of us

We need a Labour party with plenty of OOMPH like the one which came into governernment in 1945. At the moment I find almost total lack of inspiration or hope, just the rather negative 'anyone but the Tories'. Where's the Nye 'National Health Service' Bevan for our age? Yes, the country's in a mess. But after WW2 it was in a far worse mess, but that didn't stop the Attlee government striking out boldly, more boldly by far than the present Labour leadership.

I can do it easy with a selection of policies. First, rejoin the European Single Market; Second, renationalise all and I mean all those privatised industries the Tories sold off to their mates even schools; Third, introduce a far fairer tax system. For instance, reintroduce income tax increases for the highest earners, tax property more efficientl, reform the outdated Council Tax system with a link made with the value of property, reduce VAT but reintroduce the old Labour Purchase Tax where more is paid for luxury items like fur coats, Rolls Royce cars etc; fourth, reform democracy in the UK by abolishing FPTP and introduce a fairer proportional system like STV; Fifth, abolish the House of Lords. All these reforms would benefit the UK. Will they be introduced? No.

The five missions, which Sir Keir said would form "the backbone of the Labour manifesto and the pillocks of the next Labour government", include:
    1. Securing the "highest sustained growth" in the G7 group of rich nations, made up of the UK, US, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, and Japan, by the end of Labour's first term :- U.K. has already overtaken France in worlds largest economy chart since leaving the Eu. Starmer will force the unemployed to work or remove benefits.
    2. Making Britain a '"clean energy superpower", removing fossil fuels from all of Britain's electricity generation by 2030. This has already been done, U.K. has already the largest wind farms on the planet.
    3. Improving the NHS :- By privatisation of more services.
    4. Reforming the justice system. Even Starmer couldn’t prosecute Jimmy Saville.
    5. Raising education standards. By the introduction of more private schools.
